For Christians, Christmas is a holiday about hope and redemption. In some ways, that’s been the story of 2024, too.

It’s impossible not to notice that in many quarters across the United States, things are returning to something more like normal. That’s a hopeful change.

After Donald Trump was elected president for the first time in 2016, the response was, well, crazy.

“Don’t normalize Trump” was the battle cry of Democrats, as they proceeded to de-normalize virtually every institution in America.

Universities offered their students coloring books, emotional support dogs and therapy.

Professors announced that Trump should be impeached before he even took office. (Apparently just being Donald Trump was a “high crime and misdemeanor” in their eyes.)

Restaurants denied service to Trump appointees, the FBI and other branches of government cooked up a phony “Russian collusion” scandal and media organizations went berserk.

Trump’s 2020 loss was followed by civil and criminal lawfare in both state and federal jurisdictions and the weaponization of the bureaucracy against him and his supporters.

An FBI SWAT-style raid on his home featured agents rifling through Melania’s underwear and tossing bogus classified document covers around for staged photos.

The Jan. 6 committee in Congress was so fair that it shredded mountains of documents and tried to sneak legislation immunizing its members from investigation into last week’s spending bill.

Meanwhile the press, which boosted Joe Biden as he campaigned from his basement, subjected Trump and his supporters to nonstop vilification, comparing him repeatedly to Hitler.

The hysteria led to two assassination attempts — and after a brief pause, lasting about 15 minutes, they started calling him Hitler again.

A lesser man would have folded under the pressure. Just imagine how fast Mitt Romney would have tucked his tail between his legs, apologized for existing and Stockholm-Syndromed himself into being a Democratic Party tool. (Well, OK, you don’t really have to imagine that.)

More Americans were homeless this year compared with 2023 as families continued struggling to afford rent and other basic necessities, federal officials announced Friday.

Across the U.S., more than 771,800 people lived without housing in 2024, according to a count taken annually on a single night in January. The number for January 2024 is 18.1% higher than in 2023, when officials counted about 650,000 people living in homeless shelters or in parks and on streets. In 2022, the population of people experiencing homelessness was about 580,000.

"The numbers are just mind-boggling to me," Ann Oliva, CEO of the National Alliance to End Homelessness, told USA TODAY.

Many cities have struggled to build more affordable housing in recent years, while some communities have pushed for harsher laws banning tents and sleeping in public spaces. More local leaders across the U.S. need to invest in strategies to keep people in their homes when money is tight, experts told USA TODAY, otherwise the unhoused population will continue to grow.

What is a sentence diagram?​

A sentence diagram is a visual organization system that you can use to see how the parts of speech like nouns, verbs, prepositions, and articles work together and relate to each other in any given sentence.

We’ll explain everything you need to know below so that you, too, can understand sentence diagrams. Knowing how to identify what roles each word plays in a sentence based on their function and placement is an excellent practice for both improving your English writing and learning how to write better sentences.

Sentence diagramming uses a fixed set of rules and a standardized “code” of line types (e.g., diagonal lines, dotted lines, etc.) so that anyone who knows how to diagram a sentence can read other people’s sentence diagrams. The most commonly used method is known as the Reed–Kellogg system, which is what we discuss here.

What grammatical components you should be able to identify before diagramming?​

Before we get down to actually diagramming sentences, let’s review the technical elements that sentences are composed of: parts of speech and sentence constituents. Sentence diagramming deals heavily with the functions of words, and you need to identify each word or phrase’s role so you know where to put it on your sentence diagram.

You might recognize some of these are parts of speech like articles and conjunctions, but others are concepts that describe the constituents of a sentence like predicates or subordinate clauses. Constituents can be a single word or a collection of words that form a single function.

• Subject noun or noun form: The subject is the doer of the action in a sentence.
• Predicate verb: The predicate specifies the complete action of the sentence, and at its center is the predicate verb.
• Direct object: The direct object is the noun that receives the action.
• Indirect object: The indirect object is the noun that receives the direct object.
• Preposition: Prepositions such as in, at, to, or behind show relationships like direction, time, location, and space.
• Modifier: Modifiers, like adjectives and adverbs, add more description to nouns, verbs, or other modifiers. Possessive nouns like my, your, or Mom’s act as adjectives, so they’re also considered modifiers.
• Article: Articles are also a kind of modifier, and they define a noun as either specific (the) or unspecific (a, an).
• Appositive: An appositive is a noun or noun phrase and is a special kind of modifying component. Appositives further identify or even rename another noun for descriptive purposes.
• Conjunction: Conjunctions like and, but, and or join words or phrases together.
• Subordinate clauses: Subordinate clauses contain a subject and a predicate but need to join an independent clause to form a complete sentence. These can include both noun clauses and infinitive clauses.
• Gerund: Gerunds are verbs that act as nouns, using the participle or –ing form.

I had the pleasure of attending a sports symposium several years ago at Harvard. Several sports dignitaries, from announcers to GMs, attended/spoke. It was hosted by Michael McCann who was a law professor at U of New Hampshire and was developing a "sports law" curriculum. He is about two years ahead of just about anyone in discussing sports law. At that symposium, I first learned about CTE and its upcoming impact as well as pending legal challenges to the notion of amateurism in college sports. I was the first to post on these issues, and, as informed by McCann, I can say that almost every prognostication I've made has been 100% or close to 100% correct.

For the most part, discusses the potential of the NLRB recognition of college athletes being recognized as "employees". This will further shape college sports. First and foremost, IMHO, allowing athletes to assemble a Union (or similar) which will allow for a collective bargaining agreement. Today, there is no "collective" to bargain with so each issue is a one-off issue that is subject to the courts and appeal courts.

Meanwhile, on the foreign front, the Russians rained missiles on Kiev last night as apparent retaliation for the assassination of a Russian government minister in Moscow a few days ago. Senile Joe's string-pullers promptly declared they would surge yet more aid to Ukraine. The Regime is aiming high: what better way to sabotage Trump than to start World War III before he even takes the oath of office.

November 5 was great, truly thrilling...but it didn't end anything. The war goes on and the shit's about to get real.

Every so often, I say out loud, “Trump won.” I repeat it in my head a few times because even now, I barely believe it. Eight long years of conflict, madness, division, corruption - there have been convictions, jail time, even suicides among Jan 6ers whose lives were destroyed because they were faithful enough to Trump to have his back when the chips were down.

What our government, our media, and the ruling class wanted was to terrorize Trump supporters out of their loyalty to him. “It’s a cult,” they continue to insist. But even after all of that, Trump won. He won the Electoral College and the popular vote.

There has never been a story like this one in all of American history, and even the Good People of the Left know that. But there have been stories like this in all the most beloved films and books. This story is one we all know. It’s called The Hero’s Journey, and any honest person knows that we just watched Trump live out his.
