New Car Help: Gas vs Hybrid vs Plug-in Hybrid

I need a new car and I'm torn on which type of "fueled" vehicle to purchase. Electric is out for me. So that leaves three choices. Hybrids seem ok but I don't like the additional upfront cost. I'm very leery of the Plug-in hybrids because of my experiences with all types of batteries. I plan to keep this vehicle a long time and I don't want a dinosaur which I'm afraid gas may quickly become. Has anyone here gone through the pros and cons on that would be willing to share. I'm sure I'm not alone in this quandary. TIA

DEMOCRATS ARE OUT OF AMMO

But, but, but................. What about the EGGS!!!! It's the EGGS!!!!

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2025/02/democrats-are-out-of-ammo.php

At a time when the Trump administration is taking actions of world-historical importance, America’s Democrats are launching the lamest attacks imaginable.

Thus, soon after President Trump’s inauguration a memo evidently went out to Democrats in the press to blame the president for the high price of eggs. It started in January, when average prices for December–prior to Trump’s inauguration!–were reported. And it has continued non-stop. The reason for the high price of eggs is obvious: supply and demand, driven by the loss of huge numbers of chickens due to avian flu. And pretty much all of the increase occurred during the Biden administration. But that hasn’t stopped Democratic Party “news” outlets from trying to blame Trump:

tOSU athletics lost $38,000,000 last year

Ohio State reports athletics budget deficit of nearly $38 million from 2024 fiscal year

“While last year’s budget impact is not ideal and there were unique circumstances at play, we have a robust expense and revenue plan that has been implemented and have made great progress in this ever-changing landscape of college athletics,” Bjork said in a statement issued as part of a news release. “We will make sure we operate with a balanced budget moving forward.”
The release added that the department expects reserve funds, along with past and future earnings to cover the $37.7 million deficit.
Lower ticket sales contributed to the decline in revenues as the Buckeyes played only six football games at Ohio Stadium in fall 2023, their fewest home games since 2004.
The revenue from football tickets was $47.9 million, a drop-off of $16.5 million from when they had eight home games in 2022. They returned to a slate of eight games last fall and also hosted a first-round game in the College Football Playoff in December.

FB Recruiting Penn State Makes Final 4 for Top Defensive Line Target

In-state, three-star defensive line target Alex Haskell has released a final 4 of Syracuse, Duke, Penn State, and Michigan. The St. Joe's Prep is one of Penn State's top defensive line targets for the 2026 cycle and has been a regular visitor to campus. He was most recently on campus for Penn State College Football Playoff first-round victory over SMU.

Penn State was already going to be among the top schools for Haskell, but adding St. Joe's Prep alum Jim Knowles as the team's new defensive coordinator can't hurt the effort of the Nittany Lions, either.

Can Democrats Be Saved? I Have My Doubts

I hope they remain batshit crazy. Having David Hogg as the DNC co-chair is certainly a step in the right direction.

https://josephklein.substack.com/p/still-crazy

Yes, friends, still crazy after all these years…and the encroaching dementia is not benign. Can this party be saved? I have my doubts. The intellectual corrosion is comprehensive; it is only matched by the self-righteous arrogance. But what’s the alternative? I’ve been through Dems in Disarray syndrome multiple times in the past: in 1972, in 1980, in 1988, in 2016…but, gotta say, this is the worst I’ve ever seen it. There is a vast cluelessness abroad in the party. Its prevailing vision of an America based on identity now resides in the outhouse. Even my former employer, The New Yorker, repository of stately, elegant liberal myopia has noticed that something is amiss:

According to [Washington state Democratic Rep. Adam] Smith, the Democrats’ main problem is that they can’t govern. In large progressive cities such as Seattle, part of which lies in Smith’s district, “we’ve got a real problem with crime, homelessness, drug abuse, and affordable housing,” he said. Smith said that he’s tried meeting with various local agencies about these problems but has encountered bureaucratic incompetence and ideological retrenchment…

Smith sees ideology as the driver of Democrats’ governing failures. As he wrote to me recently, from his AOL account, “Too many people in power in these places seem to spend too much time pushing an extreme left ideology by policing language on things like pronouns, what given ethnic groups should be called and in general reeducating everyone about the evils of capitalism and all the systemic failures of America over the course of 400 years.”
And yet, and yet:

This is the dilemma for Democrats like Smith: though they may have strong objections to the ideological culture of the left, they’re also uncomfortable with Trump’s program to destroy it from the right.

Sorry, but that horse has left the barn. The Democrats have twice now enabled a World-Historic Demagogue to be elected President of the United States. One wonders if Trump’s reelection will stand with Julius Caesar crossing the Rubicon. The Gaza-like rubble of the Biden Administration is just beginning to come into focus. It probably dates to the days before Biden became President, when he made a deal with the socialist minions of Bernie Sanders to create his new Administration. This was Project 2021, the precursor of Project 2025. It resulted in left-nuttiness below the radar throughout the government. Every so often, the nuttiness would surface—as with the chaos at the Southern border—and Biden would do nothing about it. But usually it was a subdural hematoma, bleeding beneath the surface, like the death-grip the teachers unions held over the Department of Education. And the utter lapse in keeping the Pentagon up to date and funded appropriately. And the espousal, in too many Democratic cities, of releasing shoplifters without bail. (It wasn’t Defund the Police; it was Empower The Thieves.)
