2017 Recruiting Class Thread

Did he decommitt from Rutgers? Why is he possibly waiting until after NSD? Anyone?

He's clearly waiting until after NSD to have his party and announce his decision because NSD decorations are cheaper after NSD. Kind of like when my wife sends me to Target for wrapping paper after Christmas, Halloween candy in November, and Easter candy after Easter.

Only reason would be that he has options that he believes will still be open after signing day (i.e. from schools that will not likely give out their max scholarships), and is waiting on the possibility of an opening at a school he would prefer. Seems like that is what the IN TE is doing, although he seems to have a spot in IU's class. Wonder how IU feels about this. Would IU give his scholarship to someone else IF they had the option to do so. Does IU have someone they believe they could pull in in the event the visiting TE flip? Tough to be a head coach this time of year......

Did I forget one?

PSU possibly advising this young man to wait and see how things shake out; then maybe a possible offer?

Romello Martin out of Brooklyn, N.Y. will make a post signing day decision. There are two schools who have jumped out in front for his signature. Find out the latest with the 6-foot-3, 305-pound defensive tackle.
Last Thursday at 9:44 AM
Penn State remains in the mix for the top defensive tackle in New York for the Class of 2017. But don't expect a decision anytime soon.
Does this indicates that grades are a concern here?

Good news: Great vibes on Mr Brooks, feeling positive now.

Bad news: Wiltfong just CBd Conliffe to Fla. That one won't happen.

Still feeling good on TCF...and I still say Franklin pulls a rabbit out of his hat and gets number three, and maybe it's a Juco LB.

Oh, and Journey Brown is BLAZING FAST. Top 60m time in the state.

"Donovan Johnson showed he would be a force for Detroit Cass Tech when he displayed his blazing speed at The Opening in Oregon this past summer, posting the fastest time in the 40 when he was clocked at 4.35 seconds."

Hot diggity. Didn't realize DJ was that fast. Also averaged a whopping 15 ypc.

Edit: 15 YPC = 15 yards per carry, not catch. For some reason, that gives me flashbacks to Omar Easy (totally different type of back) who averaged something like 14.6 ypc in Massachusetts before blocking for LJ at PSU and breaking his way into the NFL. Had class with Omar at PSU, good dude.

Edit 2: Ok, so I was a little off. "In just two seasons of high school football, Easy amassed 2,193 yards and 28 touchdowns while averaging a ludicrous 13.8 yards per carry." http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archives/article_db51959f-b6e0-5ef4-8868-ee7b08b88c0a.html

The Lions scored big in the skill department, too.

Parade named speedy Bruce Branch (6-1, 180, Richmond, Va.) the country's No. 1 wide receiver prospect.

At tailback, Paterno lured Hampton, Va., dynamo Antwoine Womack -- Virginia's all-time leading rusher with 5,621 career yards -- to State College, as well as Everett, Mass., standout Omar Easy, the state's Player of the Year and several publications' No. 1 fullback prospect in the country.

Indeed, Easy may be the real gem of the group.

A native of Jamaica, Easy has played just two seasons of organized football since moving to Massachusetts two years ago. In two years at Everett High, the 6-2, 238-pound Easy rushed for 2,193 yards, scored 28 touchdowns and averaged 13.8 yards per carry.

"His high school coach swears on a bible that Omar runs 4.5 in the 40 (yard dash)," Grosz says. "He's an unbelievable athlete." <-- Phil was right.

It's not over 'till it's over!

Hoping for some good news this weeks. I want TCW, Hippenhammer and Brooks and I will be satisfied. Webb or Ruggs flip would be great but I'm not holding my breath. I also like the canook TE who visited.

So what is the trade-off of Brooks instead of Rivers, aside from the belief that Rivers would be ready to play sooner?

Always take a brook over a river.

Looking at the HUDL on Hendershot, I believe he might ultimately be a better OLB than TE. Inside linebackers are hard to find. Have to read, shed, move in both directions. You can take a failed ILB or DE and develop them into an OLB. Just my opinion from experience.

I think PSU is currently at 83 scholarships and that doesn't count Davis or Smith. I can't imagine those two won't be on scholarship so I'm going to say we're at 85.

Brooks sounds likely
I think the staff would find room for Castro-Fields
I think the staff would find room for Webb
I'm not sure about a TE or DT
I read that Hippenhammer is firm

PSU will have to "make room" for each new commit. I'm guessing 2 more but 3 is possible. Probably a top 9-13 finish in the rankings. That's pretty good. Unfortunately OSU is #2 and UM is #4.

Interesting to look at schools with smaller classes so far:
Clemson 14 (3.86 avg stars)
Notre Dame 16 (3.5 avg stars)
Florida 16 (3.57 avg stars)
Stanford 12 (3.92 avg stars)

I must ask: Are you Wilbur Marshall?

Clemson seems to be closing hard. Seems like in my groggy hungover state I saw a number of 4* committing to them last night and this morning .... of course could be the remanant of my friend Jack Daniels running through my veins still as well
