2018 Recruiting Thread

What makes you say it’s major surgery? Most shoulder surgeries appear to carry a ~6-12 week recovery time, which would easily put him on track to be healthy by fall camp.

The tone of the article was uncertain in its prognosis. After rereading it, I would just call it shoulder surgery and let experts and time tell when Monroe will be ready to play,

No, it's longer than that. Probably 4 month minimum, depending on the procedure itself, before he'd be cleared for contact.
Even so, that puts him at somewhere around the middle of April. He’d still have the whole summer to rehab and build the strength back before fall camp starts. Same for Ellison Jordan - if he didn’t have surgery and it’s just a bone break, he could easily be back in action for spring ball.

Edit - Middle of May, not April.

Although it would have been nice for Monroe to maximize his reps before Fall, the silver lining is that this gives Garret Taylor, Sutherland [and maybe Wade??] a chance to get more reps at safety in Monroe's absence.

Tone of the article? They have no information at all. Did you read the article? Here are the first couple of lines from the article.

Ayron Monroe, who was expected to start at safety next season for the Nittany Lions, underwent what looks to be a shoulder surgery on Wednesday, according to photographs he posted to his Snapchat story.

Penn State couldn't immediately be reached for comment on the operation, so there is no clear timeline for Monroe's recovery.

At any rate, I believe that we land Julius Irving. Follow my logic, who else could possibly replace a great like Marcus Allen (born in California) but a Julius Irving from California?

It's as if JoePa is up there pulling strings to get some famous sports legends version 2.0 for our safety position. We'll know for sure if we start recruiting a Willie Mays from California next cycle.

Yeah, it's not that big of a deal. It will affect his off-season lifting, for sure, but as long as he has a good result he will be fine in the summer.

Nah, JoePa would have asked why not recruit all of the kids between State College and California...

Joe was the best of all time but if there was one weakness in his recruiting it was at DB.

Irvin initially intended to select a university during the early signing period (Dec. 20-22) but postponed those plans.

This opened the door for Penn State to at least gauge his interest.

“I’ve been talking to them for almost a month now,” he told Land of 10. “It was definitely a great feeling to receive the offer.”

So why does Irvin consider this a “huge” development?

“I just feel much West Coast talent doesn’t get recruited to the East Coast, so for a program that I’ve been interested in to offer me is huge,” he said.

Irvin, the son of former All-Pro Los Angeles Rams cornerback LeRoy Irvin, said he has family in New Jersey but limited familiarity with America’s eastern region. Still, he doesn’t discount the possibility of eventually viewing Penn State as a legitimate contender.

“Could be a possibility. I would want to take a trip first,” he said.

Wasn't Franco's brother, Pete Harris a DB and also Harry Hamilton's brothers. Ron Dickerson was a good DB coach.

Doesn't mean much. Leroy Irvin was an Army brat, born at Fort Dix. Went to HS in Augusta, GA when his dad was stationed at Fort Gordon.

Kind of what I thought it might be. Thanks for digging up the details. Julius looks good in video clips and his CA high school played against tough competition.

Sorry if this was already discussed but it played poker with a WVU fan last night and he seemed convinced that Anderson-Butts was going to flip to the Mountaineers.

The only way that may happen is if he doesn't qualify for PSU and can for WVU. so not very likely. He will be at PSU or prep school. Maybe WVU lets him sign knowing he hadn't qualified yet whereas CJF won't allow a player to sign if it looks like they won't qualify.

I’m wondering if Anderson-Butts is in a similar situation as Adam McLean.

If he has to go to prep school, what difference does it make to him if he signs or not? He still can't go anywhere other than prep, and his signature is not binding.

If this site is to be believed, SAB's problem is not related to admission; its related to his NCAA eligibility. Just because it's easier to obtain admission to WVU doesn't make that go away.

It's been said since this summer that it was extremely unlikely SAB was going to be able to qualify. Him "flipping" isn't the issue. He didn't really look the part at the UA all american game practices either.

I don't really care if SAB flips or not, he did enough getting Parsons to come back. He obviously struggles with school thats one major issue going forward. And I haven't been impressed with any tape. If he's a WR than he's buried deep even in this class if we get Enis and then more the next few years. If he's a DB he will take time to develop and not his favorite position.
