2018 Recruiting Thread

Lind was the only CB for Oweh to Ohio State in December. He's the most homerish of all the OSU beat writers (which is saying something).
I believe he was the one who switched his CB back to PSU after having dinner with “someone close to the PSU program” a few days before oweh’s Announcement.

Still a bigger loss for Michigan. PSU was apparently not too involved until late, if at all.

I am still not sure what PSU would have done with Friday. We might have our best DT class in school history. He might project as a hybrid, like Buchholz, but he almost certainly would not be a full time DE for us. I think the staff might have been pursuing him as a contingency against losing both Oweh and Smith. That is a pretty amazing statement given Friday is a four star kid with a great offer list. Things have changed, example 1001.

Interesting late 2018 offer. Safety out of California. Was supposed to sign on Dec 20 but delayed it until February. 247 already lists his interest level in PSU as warm despite the late offer.

Have to think this a long shot as doesn't look like he has any OVs left. Already been to ND, Washington, UM, USC and Utah.

I think more of a sign that they they need another safety to offset loss of Young.

Could it be a sign that Anderson-Butts may not qualify? AB looks to have the build of a great Safety prospect, and if Enis comes to PSU there will be quite an abundance of WR talent in this class.....

Irvin spoke next about the impressive league he plays in. “Competing in the Trinity League is so amazing. It prepares you for the next level as it’s the toughest league in the nation, so you’re playing a bunch of the to players. You’re playing against 5 stars, 4 star guys each and every week, so it prepares you for the next level,” said Irvin, who’s father LeRoy played in the NFL for years.

Believe his father played for LA Rams 1980-89.

Notre Dame appears to be making a hard push for safety Kenyatta Watson who decomitted from FSU this week. His father is close with several ND coaches. ND also already has two safeties signed for 2018. ND may not be happy that Irvin did not sign his LOI in Dec.

PSU may not be such a longshot on this. And as mentioned above, could also be related to SAB and where he stands with PSU.

ND was the leader until recently. They did academic/character review and offered him middle of 2017. I believe you are on the right track Delco

Father born in NJ ------!!! May be coming home to JF Lion country

"LeRoy Irvin: Pos: DB, Career: 159 G, 35 Int, 1.5 Sk, 11 TD, 2xAll-Pro(1st), 2xProBowl, Rams/Lions 1980-1990, born NJ 1957."

I asked Irvin if distance is going to be a factor in his decision. “That doesn’t really bother me. I keep my options open. Being away from home doesn’t really matter. I just want to go to the best university for me, and the best opportunities that the university will have for me,” he said.

Irvin has a good idea of what he wants to study post-high school. “Right now, I plan to study communications and business, but that could change like anything else. I’m so young right now. Right now, business and communications on my mind,” said Irvin.
“Going into a strong class and potentially winning a championship with the guys from your class would be just huge. A school having a huge recruiting class is a plus.”

When and/or how did this Irvin kid come up on our radar?

Julius Irvin is still 80% ND and 20% USC on crystal ball predictions.... is he supposed to announce on or sometime before national LOI day?

Irvin was offered today, Thursday.

OFFER
Penn State Nittany Lions
offer Julius Irvin

Nittany Lions moved quickly to Warm

Very good size for a Safety at 6-2.

#13 Safety would be a nice addition, with room later for SAB, if he needs to Prep.

He received a nice set of offers in early mid 2017. Including ND, WASH, USC, UTAH, others. ND took the lead when they offered mid-year. Seems as if he fell off the radar until recently. Delco has suggested that ND may have backed off when he didn't sign on early period because they have another target that they flipped from FSU. The news that PSU offered on January 11 (today) came from 247/sports

I'll take him over Raines,.....

Hasn't there been some smoke about PSU pursuing other DBs like Noah Boykin? Seems to me that they might be looking to replace Young's old spot in the class. Maybe they thought SAB was going into that slot, but there are concerns about his eligibility as mentioned.

I doubt this has anything to do with Walker or Enis.
