2018 Recruiting Thread

A few years ago, Ishaq Williams was going to take an official visit to Penn State and sign. The night before he was to head to Happy Valley, one of Notre Dame's coaches went to his house and didn't leave until Ishaq signed with them. Any chance one of our coaches does the same with Walker?

Williams only gave a verbal commitment during that incident. It did not occur during the signing period.

I seriously hope our coaches never do any of these stupid stunts.....Most of the kids who go this route never live up to the billing and aren't worth the hassle. I would rather just have the kids who truly love and want to go to PSU and join the family without all the drama of sleepovers, campouts, tree climbing, etc...

I have posted previously in another thread the thoughts communicated to me by coaches from both CD and Harrisburg that they were not fully satisfied with Micah's off the field preparation to include workouts. He is essentially an untapped athletic freak. If he does truly embrace the PSU work ethic and learn from guys like Saquon then there really is no limit to what he can become. I am cautiously optimistic. He seems to be having the right attitude with the new demands of becoming an elite college student athlete.

I'm glad that you posted this. I have heard the same thing about Parson's aversion to off season workouts, but have just thought of this as a silver lining in an already gold plated recruit. If this kid is so productive without a high level commitment to strength and conditioning, imagine what he could be once he gets on board with that... it could be scary!

No better role model than Saquon. Is Saquon spending much time in State College these days? Even if he is elsewhere in pre-draft prep and marketing ventures, I hope he continues to mentor Micah.

A new suitor for Irvin

Penn State was the most recent big fish to join the race for Class of 2018 safety Julius Irvin.

That's until Alabama threw its hat into the ring, anyway.

The Crimson Tide extended an offer to the Anaheim, Calif., four-star talent on Wednesday night, adding its considerable opportunity to a list that already includes USC, Notre Dame, Washington, and of course the Lions.

Irvin, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect who is the No. 12 safety in the Class of 2018 according to the 247Sports' Composite rankings, currently has no visits planned, leading the race to land him wide-open as National Signing Day nears on Feb. 7.

Don't like seeing this, but Gleitman who is not the typical OSU fanboy CB'ed Walker to the bad guys. Last nights visit by the staff hopefully made a dent and hopefully they can keep him from pulling the trigger this weekend or giving them a silent.

Why would the coaches use their last in home with Rasheed BEFORE his Ohio St official? Seems the right time would be after the visit, especially when the kid says he won’t be committing until signing day?...

My understanding is that each team can visit once per week. But only once by the head coach. So it looks like the strategy is for a pre-(duh-oh-high-ya) visit, and then CJF & Co. visit near his decision day....

It didn't say the HC and it is tonight versus last night. The coaches get more than one in home and can go every week IIRC, it's the HC who has yet to use his and will save it until after tOSU visit. Don't worry, they got this stuff covered.

CJF has a Psychology degree so he probably knows a bit about persuasion and the importance of making a first impression. To supplement see the attached link to learn about the six principles of persuasion.

You're late.

I said that a CB for Walker was put in a few days ago.

fishing? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

;););)

Ahmed beat him to it. You can pay all the attention to a copy-cat you want.

Ignorance of the law, or my reasoning, is no excuse sir.

DETENTION after school!

:););):)
I knew of Ahmed's but if you go further back in this same thread I mention 3 people I trust with CB's....don't worry though, I only expect the bright ones to figure this one out.

Let's face it, nobody will know where Walker is going until he signs. We went through similar drama with TCF last yield. He was going to Maryland right up until he announced for PSU.

I just love reading about the incoming class. Tarburton seems to have his head on straight, and his upbringing had something to do with it, if his Dad's comments are any indication....

While plenty of people are already wondering whether Parsons is ultimately destined for a transition to defensive end, Nick Taburton may be the most likely candidate for that route. This 6-3, 250-pound playmaker recorded nearly 300 tackles at Pennridge High School and did much of his finest work near the line of scrimmage.

His father, Rick Tarburton, shed some light on the potential for a position change during our discussion last month.

“He’ll play anywhere Coach Franklin tells him to play. Nick is a football player,” Rick said. “He wants to play linebacker. I think he likes the leadership aspects of linebacker, especially middle linebacker, but when he was younger he played defensive end for years. They moved him to linebacker because teams would run away from him when he was at end. As far as where he’ll play, I think it’s going to depend on what the team needs.”

FWIW, of course, but I pass along anything that can be perceived as good news. From the OZone...

Wow! Rasheed Walker finished ahead of Carman by 2 slots in Final 247Sports Rankings* - Buckmich [15:08:33 01/18/18] (1)
Everyone is just guessing at this point. Let’s wait for his OSU visit and Franklin’s in home visit, and even then Walker still may not know where he’s going.
