Well they used to think PSU pushing grad rates was negative recruiting....so I'm not even sure they know WTF it means. Duzzi should school them on this.
Yep. There used to be endless griping about Larry Johnson constantly selling grad rates to the kids and their families. It was a very powerful selling point for the PSU program at that time. They whined endlessly about this so-called negative recruiting. Now that they have him he's their hero and they will never mention any concern about his character or "negative recruiting." I've never seen anyone here call LJ sr a negative recruiter even when he's beating us out for kids. He's not. The guy is the same fantastic recruiter and coach that he's always been. But to them he was a "negative recruiter" his whole time here. It's proof that when they whine about negative recruiting it's just sour grapes.

Anyway, here's to Walker joining the squad! Do it man! Please come to Happy Valley!

Reports (Eleven Warriors) that OSU may be losing their QB Coach (Ryan Day) to the NFL Titans. Vrabel (Titans HC) is building his staff with ex-OSU buddies.

Just a hunch on my part, but the amount of OL offers being given out to 2019 prospects may suggest that the staff might not be confident with Walker. Franklin & Co. seem to be casting a wide net so far in search of '19 OL.

I’m not sure that one OL kid committing or not committing to the ‘18 class is going to make much of a difference in the number of offers they send out to ‘19 OL kids.

I'm not sure one has to do with the other. I think the '19 class will be OL-heavy regardless of what Walker does. The number of scholarship linemen is pretty low; they need to add 5-6 (minimum) in the next class.

I really don’t think the current numbers are all that low. We return 4 starters each in 2018 and 2019, and we will have right around 15 scholarship offensive lineman on the roster for the 2018 season with only one senior (Wright).

I’d expect the staff to look at around 4 offensive linemen for 2019 just like they have for the past three or four classes - but I don’t think the need is as desperate as you’re making it seem.

hmm...really? Ryan Day is a dual threat QB coach. Not sure he has the chops to coach a real pocket passer. Marriotta is great raw material to work with though.

Another strange one:
https://www.landof10.com/michigan/ed-warinner-tennessee-titans-nfl-michigan-football-reports-deny

Vrabel/Titans may be hiring Michigan (brand new) offensive line/running game coordinator Warinner, Both Day and Warinner were with Vrabel at OSU

"Upon Monday introduction to the media, new Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel either paid a compliment or took a shot at top college programs."

"When asked about how much college schemes will come into play in Tennessee, Vrabel said, “The NFL has the greatest farm system in the world. We pay those coaches $10 million to be our farm system. Nick Saban is our farm system. Urban Meyer is our farm system."

Vrabel’s first three years as a coach came with Ohio State after retirement before his meteoric rise from NFL position coach to Titans head coach.

They have to send out the offers in advance, until they know whether or not they are getting Walker. It's not that they are pessimistic; they are just covering all bases.
.
Jesus people....with or without Walker...they need to hand out OL offers for 2019 like every other program and at every other position....oh the agony

No, not low. But when you think about a 22-25 player class each year, and an 85 player roster, 4 per year seems about right. An 85 player roster is just less than 4 full teams. 4 full OL's are 20 players. But OL players do not rotate, but do take longer to develop and see the field than players farther away from the ball (as CJF describes it) such as RB's and DB's. So a roster of 15-18 seems about right. And with the attrition that takes place it usually takes about 4 OL recruits per year, given that few will play as true freshmen, but a few may leave early from a consistent top 15 team/roster. 4 per recruiting class is less than the full squad that one would expect from 22-25 player recruiting classes, but a few positions such as QB, WR and RB will have more than 4 deep players on an 85 players roster.

So if CJF does not get Walker and can not find a 4th quality OL recruit for the 2018 class, he may go after 5 for 2019. If he does not get Walker and there is not another quality uncommitted OL player that he feels he can get, I expect him to try and flip another unsigned player. But with limited options.... it may be a year to year reaction....

As far as the early 2019 OL offers, I believe the staff initially goes after all the top players that they have evaluated and are confident in offering regardless of position. There will always be positions that seem short and for those positions the staff is likely waiting to evaluate players at camps before offering, to be sure that they are confident that each player is the high quality athlete/player that they are seeking.

They have a birthright to every player they want, always. They are the Yankees of the Big 10. If another team gets that player it MUST have been underhanded because they get ALL the chosen on THEIR level playing field. It's like they think Witvoet should make recruiting decisions.

Look ...they have Cleveland, Toledo, Cinnci...Akron and nothing else.
Which really means they have Akron and nothing else. So o, leave them to their delusions....

Let's not be so heartless.

I like your thinking but unfortunately Zubovic signed with Pitt during the early signing period. Hopefully we can snag Walker because I don't know who the Plan B would be

How could this be interpreted as a shot?
And in what way does the NFL pay those coaches anything?
I don't understand at all.

It is a shot in that he is implying that Alabama and Ohio St are running semi-pro teams. And if anyone would know that there is no such thing as a student-athlete at these "schools", it is a former player. Mo Clarett says hello. :D

Thanks. I must have been sleeping to forget that there are limited players unsigned - I edited....

Just as CJF described the new format with 2 signing periods, there will be a mad scramble for the few high talent recruits that aren't already signed....

It is also possible that somebody on the 2018 roster as a DL or TE could end up on the OL.

It is possible PSUs new WR coach will convince Ricky Rahne that there is no need for PSU to have an OL.... to have a great explosive Offense.

Rasheed Walker interview was funny with the OSU players talking about their "internships" setting them up for life after football. Wonder if Walker was also told their internships were only for 5 days.

And when things don't go their way, they'll just change their talking points. If Walker comes to PSU, it will undoubtedly be because Urban realized he just wasn't that good and pulled the offer.

Lind from Eleven Warriors probably most annoying recruiting writer. He gave same ending statement about Oweh.

Ohio State welcomed a pair of top targets to campus for official visits this weekend in Maryland four-star offensive tackle Rasheed Walker and New Jersey four-star defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste. Both keep to themselves, so details from their visits remain sparse, but several sources close to the program and the prospects told Eleven Warriors they believe significant progress was made this weekend.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Walker made the trip to Columbus with his parents and was hosted by starting right tackle Isaiah Prince. He's been to campus numerous times, so there was nothing new the Buckeyes could show him that would instantly swing things in their favor.

Instead, head coach Urban Meyer and offensive line coach Greg Studrawa pitched an opportunity for early playing time and the ability to get developed into a top-flight NFL prospect. They're hoping that outweights Walker's desire to play close to home.

Walker isn't set to make a decision on his future until Feb. 7, National Signing Day, so Meyer, Penn State head coach James Franklin and Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente will all conduct in-home visits with him in the next few weeks. He's taken his official visits to Blacksburg and State College, but both the Hokies and Nittany Lions are expected to push for another unofficial visit between now and his decision.

“I've kind of seen everything I need to see, it's just that I like all of the schools. It's real hard to just choose one,” Walker told Eleven Warriors earlier this month at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “My main thing, when I take my officials, is that I want to get around some of the players. That's my main thing I've been trying to do.

“I do a lot of research on my own, also,” he continued. “I research the graduation rate. Who they develop and who they send to the [National Football] League. I look at their roster. Just all the stuff like that.”

I still believe all of that favors Ohio State.

Funny, the ONLY thing on that list that favors tOSU currently is who they send to the NFL.
Proximity - PSU
Family Atmosphere - PSU
Grad Rate - PSU

How could any offensive lineman want to go anywhere else when they have the chance at Ohio State to match up in practice every day against players who are coached by Larry Johnson?

The Virginia running back joins Micah Parsons and Justin Shorter as Nittany Lion 5-star signees.

Penn State running back signee Ricky Slade is one of four prospects who have seen their rating boosted to five stars in the latest 247Sport Composite rankings. Slade, of C.D. Hylton High in Woodbridge, Va., got the extra star when he moved up from No. 29 to No. 27 in the latest overall composite rankings.

Slade's impressive high school career ended with 7,643 all-purpose yards, including 5,540 yards rushing on 548 carries, as well as 808 yards receiving on 65 catches. He also returned 33 kickoffs for 1,295 yards. Over the course of his high school career he found the end zone 91 times, including 72 rushing touchdowns, 12 receiving scores and another five TDs on kickoff returns. He was recently named the Virginia's 6A Offensive Player of the Year.

Penn State signees Micah Parsons and Justin Shorter have both maintained their five-star status. Parsons remains the fifth overall prospect, while Shorter moved up from No. 12 overall to No. 7.

Question for Judge or anyone who follows recruiting closely...
I see that the 5th ranked player in Pa from Philly is DT Christian Barmore (always a position of importance) was not offered by PSU. Anyone know the reason for this?
Btw, he has committed to Alabama.
TIA
