2018 Recruiting Thread

I didn't see him punting in the link provided in TJ's post, so I went to his recruiting videos.
I'd like to see the left footed punting, did I miss the link in some other post?

It was in the link in TJs post at the top of the page...but it looks like it might have been a different kid. There is a kid there who is punting left footed and kicking right footed. I saw another kid (not sure who) on grass, but I don't see it now.

Maybe he's very self conscious about his appearance and is afraid that one leg would become stronger and visibly larger than the other?

Maybe he's actually ambidextrous when it comes to kicking and the clips just coincidentally show all of his right footed kicks and left footed punts?
Most soccer players (and most kickers/punters were soccer players) are good at kicking with both feet. Obviously they will be better with one, but they would likely be decent with their weak foot also. I played soccer and was a kicker in high school. I could kick from over 50 yards with my right and around 40 with my left.

I just read on 247 Scruggs and Dotson are taking official visits this weekend. Other than a free meal I don't see the value. Someone enlighten me.

Looks like coaches Franklin and Spencer did CJF's official coach's visit to Dotson's home today.

The official visits on the 27th looks like they are touching all of the bases for the recruits and their families

C. VISIT

James Franklin and Sean Spencer from Penn State...

An official is a targeted visit that can help their career planning. It can include specifics with academic advisors. It helps to get questions answered, to make further contacts with important support personnel and to help to lay out options for the recruit and the family.

One value of having signed recruits that have not taken their official visits take them before the February signing day is having them on campus for the weekend when the few uncommitted recruits that CJF is still recruiting are also on campus. So they can get to know the uncommitted recruits, show the family atmosphere, .....

Q: Who knows who else may show up for a visit.....???
Answer: CJF

Heck, maybe the parents want to visit The Skeller one last time...

Pitt coaching staff still focused on 2018, while the Penn State staff flies around visiting high schools of 2019 and 2020 recruits.

Free Rivals article on Walker. He talks about his official visit to Ohio State at the link.

Also:

“My in-home visit with Penn State on Thursday went really good,” he said. “That wasn’t the first time they came over so everybody was laughing, talking, and eating. It was pretty good. Most of the time when I talk to them it’s not about recruiting or anything like that.

“I just need to talk everything out with my family and see what happens,” said Walker. “I’m thinking about committing on Signing Day.”

RIVALS’ REACTION…

Penn State was believed to have a slight lead heading into the weekend and it is unclear if Ohio State did enough to call them the leader at this point. Ohio State put their best foot forward over the weekend and the one-on-one time seems to have been impactful, especially for Walker’s parents. It is essentially neck and neck between the Buckeyes and Penn State so the conversations amongst the family will be key. Maryland and Virginia Tech are still involved with Walker.

I wish I could get paid for saying nothing like these Rivals guys do.

the conversations amongst the family will be key.

You're kidding? What the family discusses will be important? Wow. Who would have guessed that?

Now, that's really sticking your neck out. "Believed" and "unclear" are always good hedge words.

Most of this stuff is crap. I don't think most of these guys know any more than we do, or Mack Daddy does, or Jay does. It's all nonsense.

I'll just stick this here. The Pittsters were talking recruiting. This moron had this to say about Franklin:

chethejet: "Rankings aside, many programs have success without four and five stars flooding the roster. But yea a really good coach can make hay and be a real contender. Look at Franklin. Does anyone think he has cerebral advantages over any coach. NO, but he can recruit and that certainly gives him advantages. I wouldn't be surprised if PSU lost two to three games this year. But no question they can also be in the playoffs."

Franklin graduated from East Stroudsburg in 1995 with a degree in psychology and earned a master's degree in educational leadership from Washington State University.

JF runs the Penn State program that is tight as a drum. He has contingencies for every occurence. He has manuals for every aspect of running the program. They have schedules worked out for every possible bowl game a year ahead of time. He has a book of every assistant coach he comes across that might one day make a great hire. A source close to the Ohio high school program of the #1 2019 defensive end in the country had this to say about him: “James Franklin is very impressive in person, let me just say that." And that is the standard talk you hear about him.

Look forward to sticking it to Pitt next year in person.

Pitt hasn't had a guy with JF's charisma since the Jackie Sherrill era. They can't envision precisely what that charisma is, so they have decided that JF must be a fraud, in spite of all evidence to the contrary. In spite of two consecutive 10 win seasons, a Big Ten championship, Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl bids in consecutive seasons, lights-out recruiting, and the ability to retool his staff as needed. Despite all of this, they still think he's a paper dragon.

It's remarkable, really, the degree of self-delusion that they possess.

Two 11 win seasons in a row. Just sayin....
