2018 Recruiting Thread

3 CB's for Montgomery to Maryland 1/28/18.

We still have a shot unless Montgomery cancels his OV to State College 2-3 Feb. Period of silence starts on 4 Feb and goes to signing day. So we will have him for the weekend and no one can have contact with him through signing day 7 Feb

I asked this earlier, but does anyone know why a kid from FL with those offers would seriously consider Maryland? Something's strange here.

Odd though they posted them on a Sunday.

Maybe he phoned-home like E.T. and they tapped the lines or somebody in the house-hold is talking.

LOL

Montgomery visited Maryland this weekend. He probably had a good visit and gave feedback. But unless he cancels PSU visit next weekend we still have the last say.

Looks like Boykin is visiting PSU and OSU this weekend
However, as they say, when one door closes, another one opens. When Big Ten East divisional opponent Maryland lost a commitment from 4-star defensive back Noah Boykin, a standout at Washington (D.C.) H.D. Woodson, it appeared the Florida Gators would be the beneficiary. Boykin took an official visit to Florida on Jan. 19 and de-committed from Maryland shortly thereafter on Jan. 24. Florida was his final official visit, with previous trips taking him to Notre Dame, USC, Virginia and Maryland.

Boykin may not be done quite yet though. As first reported by 247Sports’ Bill Kurelic, and later confirmed by Land of 10, Boykin is considering taking two unofficial visits, to Penn State and Ohio State, this weekend, driving from Washington D.C. to the two Big Ten powerhouses. If this visit does materialize, and that’s still an if, it immediately becomes an incredibly intriguing situation for the Buckeyes. Ohio State is pursuing another player at defensive back. Boykin is a long, athletic corner at 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds who could provide the length and speed in coverage that Ohio State’s scheme demands under Greg Schiano.

We demand the same in coverage actually.

Greg who?

;);)

Montgomery is now visiting Nebraska and not PSU. 247 shows his top 3 with Maryland, Nebraska and Louisville. I assume it was discussed that his offer was conditional. Hopefully this means good news for Walker, Enis and potentially Boykin. But Boykin looks like a lean to Florida at this time.

Still no word on SAB. Penn Live has a pipeline to him and they said they dont know what his status is.

He hasn't taken an official visit to Penn State (i.e. hasn't been allowed to take). Think that is a fairly large clue about what is NOT going to happen.

According to Phil, Boykin and Montgomery out. Enis iffy, especially after Gattis left (coin toss b/w PSU and Utah). Walker looks good. SAB isn't going to be academically eligible. No other names iin recruiting circles.

If PSU closes out with just Walker and no SAB, does anyone see PSU tapping into the grad transfer market this winter/spring? Or is it more likely that those schollies that might open up are awarded to walk-ons

I believe it is more likely that if CJF has 2 opening that he finds 2 good players. Late surprises and flips have occurred every year he has been at PSU.

I don’t think that there are many grad transfers out there that could help us. Maybe I’m wrong, but I can’t think of any that contributed at any of the elite programs.

There aren't going to be any MSU transfers, because nothing is going to be done to MSU football
Dantonio isn't retiring, nor getting fired, and there aren't going to be any sanctions.
Plus, who would we want - maybe Lewerke for 2019 :)

From PSU Recruiting news twitter...

Along with the Enis news I reported last night, Penn State has an interesting dilemma for John Metchie out of Hagerstown MD. They would like him to sign on in the 2018 class. He has ran out of eligibility currently at his HS (St. James).

Unfortunately he has Pitt offer. No way Franklin can compete with Narduzzi.

Phil said on the radio near the end in a recap that it looks like SAB will more likely be going the JuCo route. Has some academic work that needs to be addressed.

They talked about what that might mean for him down the road. But at this point, we'll just have to see how it plays out.

Here's wishing SAB the very best. He was a wonderful ambassador for Penn State during the recruiting cycle. Hope he can realize his dreams.

How about Russell Wilson? More recently UGa's punter Cameron Nizialek.

Yeah, I forgot Russel Wilson, but you could argue that Wisconsin wasn’t elite when he transferred there. I couldn’t tell you who anyone’s punter is outside of penn State.
