2021 Line up ?

Busiello needs some time. I think Gardner prevails and Barraclough would also prevail. My gut tells me Adam needs to fall in love with wrestling again. But that’s just based on my observations and nothing else.
Man I just love it when posters show some individuality. Good job

Gardner right now no question.

Loved Adam as highschool sophomore but he has probably grown 6 inches taller since. I think we need another year to see where he settles in and what he can bring at this level. He has great natural ability, but will need a lot of strength at this level. I remain excited for him, but for now I would say Gardner who will be that much better next year as well.

Admittedly I am a slight Gardner homer as well and was hoping he was going to get the shot at Bigs. No slight on Bo, I just think Gardner's style had a better chance to score some points and sneak in the back door to a qualifier spot.

Anyone think a N. Lee redshirt in 2020/21is a good idea? Have Bartlett go at 141 next year and Lee in 2021/22 with Bartlett redshirting. 2021/22 could be the start of a new run. Thoughts?

I don't want to write Adam off especially since it's clear wrestling for Penn State is his dream and that's why he's here right now. Results haven't been the best recently but it's possible the kid just isn't used to just wrestling bigger guys yet (even though he's bigger himself)

Busiello needs a lot of work on defense -- both on feet and on bottom.

Perhaps he makes those improvements this offseason, but from a fan perspective, a year of wait-and-see seems prudent.

If we were to shirt Nick to set up a run, then why not shirt Bartlett and have them both in the lineup for 2022? And why not shirt RBY and get an extra year of him too?

Doesn't matter, not happening. Cael is on the record saying there are no more punt years. And if there were going to be one, then why pull Brooks' shirt this year?

Brooks shirt got pulled because Cael knew Zahid was going to get popped for drugs. Rumor has it that Cael slipped to Zahid during the trip to ASU in November...just waiting for that to show up on HR.

Carl lied to Zahid.

Cstar looks legit, but to already expect him to beat Kem seems like a stretch.

You're right. As of today I wouldn't expect that result, but we'll see in a year. Kem does have a process upcoming to even be around next yr, but I'm sure he'll get it [should by current standards].

Bigger picture:
-Assuming Hall does his thing, the last 4 yrs have PSU in finals @174.
-Year before that, Nickal in the finals.
-Year before that Brown won title, yr before that = Brown 5th.
-Year before that Ruth won it all.
-Year before that, Ruth = 3rd [knee tweak away from MAYBE finalist?]
-Ortega year?
-Year before that QW takes 6th as true frosh.
That's all I can recall by memory [I don't think I missed anyone?].

Main point being PSU's handle on the 174 weight class looks solid in the near future. And if Cstar has to bump up after a couple years, there's a michigan kid coming in behind him to hopefully fill the void.

That's a pretty good run.

I dont see Starocci beating Kem either but he is gonna upset some top guys. I dont see why Starocci cant be a solid AA as a freshman.

Great memory and I think Facundo and CStar will have some battles, but remember, AB is now conveniently one year ahead of Carter, and 2, prolly 3 ahead of AFac, so there should be room for both when the time comes!!

I would think a RS year for Nick Lee only makes sense iF he were gonna move up to 149 after that.
I would not be surprised to see Yianna come back at 149 next yr, instead of 141.

Someone mentioned Hayden Hidlay as possibility for a surprise transfer...but would he switch w/o his brother.

When we mention Hidlay, Spencer, Gross or others as possible/probable transfers and our tongues aren't firmly planted into our cheeks we sound delusionally silly.

Lets at least hold off until after Nats, if Hidlay finally gets his gold I dont think he goes ANYWHERE.
Regardless, I dont think he’d leave Trent.

Pyles is reporting that impacted athletes may get an extra year. With that said next year line up:

125- Meredith/Howard
133- RBY
141- Lee
149 - Busellio/Verk/Gardner
157 - Berge
165 - Cenzo
174 - Hall
184 - Brooks
197 - shack/beard
285 - Cassar? Kerkvliet

Or perhaps Cenzo bumps up to 197.

I would have to imagine that Cenzo and Mark are ready to move on into the “making real money from wrestling” stage of their lives, and who could blame them?

I find that prospect 'seeming' fair on the surface but quite complicated to implement. Some complicating factors:

1) In reality they only missed 1 event, granted the most high profile but these kids did get in a full season, giving them another full season seems like an overreach

2) Maybe if the impacted wrestlers are limitied to underclassmen, but extending another year to seniors is a problem on multiple fronts. ( those Graduating would be forced into Grad school, I am sure the kids had no financial plan for this and full rides are rare)

3) Huge and obvious direct immediate impact on multi year lineup plans for the coaches - you have kids that have waited 1-2 years to get their shot and are now behind a Goat - think Starocci and Mark. Teams could lose someone to the portal transfer if planned departures got another year.

4) Impact on the 9.9. Some teams might have several graduating senior NA qualifiers (illustration only) while others none - how could teams fund retaining scholy kids beyond their prior plan and if the NCAA blanket bumped up the 9.9 say 1 or 2 more for a year some teams need more others maybe nothing.

As with many things the unintended consequences may come back to bite much stronger than originally contemplated.

I see nothing wrong handing out AAs based upon the seeds coming into the event.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Pyles most likely throwing that out there based on talking to a couple of coaches he talked to in the past hour on FRL. Basically a wish from coaches who are just knee jerking in the aftermath of the news.

There are a lot of ramifications to be considered. The NQs wrestled no less a season than approximately 1500 other wrestlers - will they also be entitled to an extra year? In all sports?

Diving a little deeper before opening one's mouth is a skill not mastered by quite a few coaches IME.

I couldn't disagree more.

I don't think you spend much time around the type of athletes that compete at this level.

You sound like one of those Iowa fans who don't realize that their own coach would be offended if he was awarded a title in that way.

Something like that would mean very little to these competitors.

Cenzo, Matt Brown, Nico, Q would all be titleless if matches were wrestled on paper.

EDIT: I added Mark originally but technically I guess he would have won in 2019 if they were wrestled on paper lol

Yes. He would. Mifflin County very close to State College and both brothers grew up PSU fans

How many brothers do you have DD?
What f-ing difference does it make where they grew up? I wouldnt even want a wrestler without that family value. Never leave your brothers behind.

I mentioned that as a total joke, hope I wasn't your source.

Raleigh isn't Iwo Jima...but I get your point ;)
Ohana means family! :)
