2021 Olympic Trials Results and discussion thread

Moore is looking tough. Little smaller than most of these guys. Quick and slick. Pushing the pace. Finishing shots. Looks great

Still saying I think he gives Snyder problems. Snyder’s gotten so big and he’s gotten slower.

Hate it that Cox is out tho. I think he definitely beats Snyder but Moore can as well.
Moore is looking like he did in his freshman year when he almost beat J'Den. I think the cut in college really hurt him and held him back in his later years. I still think Snyder wins though.

He almost beat JDen in a very early season match where Cox looked disinterested. People put way too much weight on close losses - especially that one.

No shame in losing that match to McKenna. That was some high high level wrestling right there. Some defensive wizardry by both as well. Zain will be kicking himself that he didn't finish that single leg in the 2nd when he got the foot swept, though. He's usually money in folkstyle from that position but freestyle is a different animal. Incredible defense by McKenna in that position that probably saved the win.

As I tucked into bed last night, I rolled away from the old lady and told her more wrestling today. As she tried to kick me out, I applied what I learned yesterday, reached back, and chin whipped her on to the floor. Then I spanked her.

So does Taylor let Bo stay close? Or does DT let the fur fly?
Personally, I feel Bo has a decent chance of beating David today. As we've all seen time and again, Bo possesses innate abilities and body awareness that simply can't be taught. I give David a slight edge, but not by much. I also feel Dake is going to take down JB and go on win the gold medal. Dake might be the best PFP wrestler in the world right now, IMHO.

My Picks for Tonight:

57 - Gilman
65 - JO
74 - Dake
86 - DT
97 - Snyder
125 - Gable

Confidence in those picks:
1. Snyder 2. GIlman 3. DT 4. Gable 5. Dake 6. JO

I don't know if Bo could have put on the muscle weight but I think he makes the finals against Snyder without J'Den at 97 kg.

J'Den was the best PFP wrestler in the world before he became the EPFP wrestler in the world. The "E" is for Excess :)
PS: Who misses the Olympics by 7 ounces? So Sad

And I quote..

When it is all said and done there is likely to be 1 Hawkeye and 1 PSU wrestler going to the Olympics. Sure it is nice to poach guys like Gilman and Snyder and have them training in your room, but once they get to the Olympics Gilman and Snyder are going to be Hawkeyes and Buckeyes to 99% of the people watching.

Don't forget the usual suspects bringing up Taylor and roids. They are special bunch over there.

Peacock streaming is acting up again... Tried to watch the bout on Mat 2 and it was buffering for the entire bout. 😠

Consolation question: Will we see Zain v Yianni in consolations? Third place “techically” makes the team and gets to travel as an alternate right? In this crazy year and Covid out there plus possibility of an injury during training...would not be unthinkable for an alternate or even the alternate alternate to still slide into the olympics. These consolation bouts are still meaning full.

It only matters what I think.

Nick techs Nashon Garrett 12-2 --fought off his back early
Lot of fireworks there! Did you happen to catch what Mirkitini said about Zain and Yianni? The damn Track Wrestling pop-up with the blaring music came on just as he was talking about it!

I think he just said that Zain-Yianni might be a third place match, but had been expected to be for the championship -- two guys who have wrestled many times with a lot on the line

Solid weekend for Aaron. Beating Nate Jackson and Sammy Brooks and was pretty damn competitive with Zahid. Say what you want about PD3, he is no slouch and has grown man's strength on Aaron (pretty effortlessly rolled him) He made Final X in 2019 for a reason and he won a Junior World Silver 6 years before Aaron.

Yeah, PD3 has always been better than he gets credit for. He has 2 big weaknesses in his lack of lungs or leg attacks, but he's great upperbody and on top with his gut. Brooks was not ready for that power.

This. ^^^ Brooks looked tiny compared to PD3, too. I know there's always chatter about him and 197 in college and maybe it's a Mark Hall situation where he's not as small as it seems, but PD3 grown man'd him a bit.
