2021 Recruiting Class Thread

Are we saying the negative press narduzzi is getting could pull him from pitt lock status?
This will be a decent example to see if the rhetoric matches the results. Of course, it is only Pitt. But a sort of legacy Pitt recruit.

Eliot Donald. Its gonna take a lot to swing him away from Pitt and towards Penn State.

By "a lot" do you mean, actual football fans, playing for B10 championships, playing oh-high-ya, UM, etc. yearly, the best S&C program for preparation for the NFL, getting away from the slum called Oakland, not having to play for whako Duzzy,... something else, a subset of the above, or all of the above??
o_Oo_Oo_O

Sean Fitz and others just CBed Kaden Prather to WVU. Thought Prather was close to a lock to Penn State.

Wiltfong and others as well. Most of them with high confidence CBs. Something didn't seem right when Prather seemed to be on the verge of announcing, and then went quiet.

This virtual recruiting environment has been brutal to this staff.

It was pretty obvious a month or so ago when the staff started offering 3 star recruits that prather and thornton had slipped away. Lot of talk on this board about how the coaches were trying to offer 3 stars to get these 4 stars nervous and commit, but what was clear then and is clear now, the staff has known for quite some time that thornton and prather would not be apart of this class.

I was just looking at the uncommitted 4 star receivers and see this kid Caleb Coombs. He is in our backyard in DC and a fairly impressive offer list. Anybody know why we never offered? I’m sure there is a reason, just curious.

I imagine Gerad Parker played a role in this one?

We really need stability at the WR coaching position and production from the outside WR position. Hopefully Stubblefield helps with that.
I was hoping Stubblefield brought some prior relationships with him but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I’m sure he did but they’re probably from FL and they can’t visit campus. Zoom calls only do so much

I think it’s time to stop chasing low 3 star WRs. We have 10 WRs on the roster that can play in ‘21. Roll with them, let’s see the new offense and then go hard at WR in ‘22

Stubblefield hasn't really been in any one place long enough where those relationships can be built with players over an extended recruitment. He also was never known as a great recruiter in any of his previous stops.

He came from Miami (DaU), where he was for only 1 year before taking the job at PSU. Before that he was at Utah for nearly 5 years. I don't think Stubblefield was at Miami long enough to create the type of relationships that would assist with recruiting at PSU. And even if he did, Miami is primarily recruiting Florida, which is a good distance from PSU. While Gerad Parker was at PSU for essential the same time that Stubblefield was at Miami, WVU is located in a state adjacent to Pennsylvania, so the relationships he created were more easily transferrable to WVU.

This virus lockdown is definitely a negative for us this year.

One silver lining is with the relaxed transfer rules coming it will become much easier for Franklin to plug any holes from this class with a future transfer. We really haven’t needed to go this route lately but it’s going to be there if we need it.

Yep, you beat me to that thought. Plenty of young WR's on the roster, and with true competition for playing time this season the group should produce 2 or 3 good WR's with freshmen eligibility that will be at PSU the next 3 years. Plus White and Clifford will both supposedly begin their PSU careers at WR. With the class supposedly being smaller I'm hoping the staff can get some additional quality and quantity at OL and DB. And hopefully a high talent DT and another DE.......

Has anybody even thought that we asked the boys for a commitment and they both declined at the time?

So then PSU decided to move on from them??

Or maybe there are simply other issues at play here?
I think a lot of things are going to change once visits are back on and games are being played. If i think on the positive side, i think that space in the class is limited and they’re being very careful who they give scholarships to. On the negative side, I wonder if some strong negative recruiting is going on in regards to constant staff turnover and CJF new contract with low buyout. Do we know if he officially signed the new deal? I may have missed it in the news cycle

I’m sorry man but this isn’t accurate. I know you don’t know this but this one shocked the insiders. They expected Prather to PSU. Meaning the staff told them they expected to get Prather so the other offers were not because Prather was slipping away.

Every top team has staff turnover.

Bama certainly is a model of retention if you count Saban. ;)

I don't think there is a reason to panic. We all know there will be decommitments and if PSU plays well, likely some players will become interested. Already have two WRs in the class, but certainly could use one with size.

Franklin said that they had to turn away some pretty good players last year at the deadline. Spots may be available this year.

Maybe this year, he'll accept those pretty good players at the deadline!

What does he bring to the program?

Always look at the kids who will get their degrees in May. Franklin always tells them that they will be in a position to graduate in three years. That’s the opportunity. To get a PSU diploma. After they do, his and PSU’s obligations are done. Typically 4-5 5th yr seniors stay. They always need to be recruiting 20-25 kids every year.
Only if we are recruiting at a high level

Franklin was asked about Pry's relationship with Parsons, but it veered into recruiting. Seems to be explaining what is happening with turnover and recruiting. Give it time and see if they can get some kids on campus.

I think the consistency at that position factored into it as well. We’ve lost some recruits because of turnover. They just didn’t have the same type of relationship with the staff. The consistency that we have with Brent at that position allowed us to ride the roller coaster with Micah and get through it. Once Micah got on campus, that well-earned and developed relationship between Micah and Brent, between Micah and myself, between me and Brent and his parents, between me and Brent and his high school coach, all those things factor in.
