2021 Recruiting Class Thread

just to clarify, it's not as though he's just announcing a final four. He identified his final four on May 13th.

He added his commitment date (June 24) in the video. Probably not good for Penn State as it doesn't give him a chance to get on campus to meet Trautwein.

Very little is constant in recruiting; things can change by the day/hour/minute. With that as a general caveat, I'd be very surprised if he picked the good guys.

Didn’t Clarkston post on our board a week or two ago that Dellinger was down to LSU and Ohio State? And with JC Latham trending towards Alabama after announcing he plans to commit soon, I’m sure Ohio State will be turning up the attention on Dellinger.

He was wrong

He recently released a Top 7, but that was before the PSU offer.

Question for the recruitniks; is there any rhyme or reason to who Penn State offers at the WR position right now? More specifically, why not offer all the 4 star guys that are uncommitted(and maybe committed) at this point, with of course consideration to grades/cultural fit? Like, what strategy would be employed right now, send out offers to guys that really have not narrowed things down much? Do they know of guys or do any kind of background work to get a sense of whether there are WR's nationally that covet a penn state offer and would elevate them to the top of their lists? Or do you sort of just cast a super wide net of 4 star and high 3 star guys and make them expedite a commitment to secure a spot? I'm just genuinely curious to if anyone has any insight on how a recruiting department discerns who to extend offers to at this point. I mean, like a kid that has been committed to a school for a year and was ONLY considering schools in the SEC lets say, probably not worth the time to extend an offer right? Do you simply extend offers, or is there a level of relationship building whereas you can figure out if both parties are truly interested?

if u look at his list of schools other than PSU they all already have at least 1 WDE and 1 OLB commit, actually most have more than just one...LSU for example already has 2 WDE and 2 OLB commits...so numbers wise it seems pretty good for PSU and u think and some point some good news will come relating to recruiting...i hope

really liked his film...showed a lot of different things...some long speed...smooth release off LOS...making people miss in a phone booth ability (this surprised me maybe the most looking at his frame)...some physical runs...diff type of catches (high pointing, diving sideline)...really good stuff...really just as good as any of the MD big 3 WR's honestly imo and his top 7 isn't the scariest list...PSU could be a dark horse here

The fact that the staff took Parsons, an athletic H.S. DE, and developed him into the #1 OLB in college football can't hurt either...........

i see Oregon is a heavy favorite for another 4 star WR...that would be three for them...all 4 stars and one being a top 5 WR in the county...would Thornton really commit if this was still the case?...i know its his favorite school growing up but man, traveling across the country into that depth chart, i don't know...and the two schools i only heard when discussing him were PSU and Oregon...and he came out with that odd list of schools recently...i just have a feeling PSU might circle there way back into the discussion if/when he would talk (in person) to PSU's new WR coach and felt more at ease with the situation...maybe wishful thinking

Why not?

Ohio State got something like 5 top-100 WRs in last year's class alone. The WR position is a position in which lots of kids can get opportunities to get touches, so it's not like the QB position in which you'll rarely take more than 2 in any given class.

Oregon also doing well with another 4* TE. They're making the most out of their Rose Bowl win. As bad as the Pac-12 is, they're poised to dominate out West -- particularly if they can get the best West Coast talent and pull in some studs from elsewhere. They're on a roll.

i hear u but the odds of him committing to Oregon i think would go down...and OSU is another animal all together...its kinda crazy when u consider OSU has not won/been in the national title game in the last SIX years but they are recruiting as if they have won 3 of the last 4 titles

Well Moorhead is the OC at Oregon now. Maybe he learned a thing or 2 about recruiting when he was here.

It sounds like Lonnie White will start at WR, based on the coaches building that relationship. With him + the WR class from '20, the situation is not as dire as we all made it out to be.

Seems like we stand pretty solid with some WRs in '22 too - KC's offense should show those guys what they want to see too.

I still think he'd make one helluva LB.

He probably would.

Though we're probably in greater need of a strong, physical WR than another stud LB. We'll see how the new WRs pan out, but we've really lacked that tough WR that can fight through press coverage and get open. Don't know if White is that guy, but he shows glimpses on the highlight reels.

has anyone seen highlights of him playing Def in HS?...i've heard multiple scouts/analysts talk about S or OLB in a college projection, maybe like a rover out there and i get it...its just i see no film of him in HS doing that...has anyone watched him play in person at the HS level?, thanks
