Sarah Hildebrandt with a good looking double and 4x lace to defeat Algeria's Ibtissem Doudou, 10-0.

Watching social media I see she brought along Penn State's very own Drew Hildebrandt, her brother, as her training partner.

We are getting the British version of "Going for the Gusto".

Sarah up 5-4 at the break. Gave up first TD on leg attack. Countered for a reversal. Then a shrug for a TD to go up 3-2. Tried the shrug again and countered by the Chinese for a leg attack TD. Sarah with a beautiful ankle pick well defended but Sarah gets the go behind for a 5-4 lead.
Sarah playing great D in the second. Finally sees and opening for a go behind and completes it for a 7-4 lead with 45 seconds remaining. Sarah continues with great defense and position. And it ends 7-4 Sarah advances to the semis!

Sarah gives up a double, fights off a leg lace, gets the reversal, then gets a takedown of her own, spinning off a front headlock to go up 3-2.

Feng with a single that she converts to make it 4-3, but Hildebrandt again spins behind off a front headlock to regain the lead, making it 5-4 at the break.

Sarah again gets behind, this time from standing, to make it 7-4 and that's how it'll end. Into the semis.

The reffing in that AZE MGL match was strange, given how four points came off the board for AZE without much of an explanation or replay.

Stadnik had the match won against Dolgarjav. Was up 7-4 after a flurry. Review changed it to 3-2 and then trying to backpedal tripped and fell on her ass to give up 2. Challenged for a hands to the face but it was denied and Dolgarjav wins 4-3.
Sarah will face the Mongolian this afternoon. I like the match up. She has a distinct length advantage against the fireplug.

Was it not just a scoreboard error? Scoreboard indicated 7-0 briefly before the scoring exchange. But it was always 3-0. I think the refs got it right.

It looked like a head butt to me.

IOC wrestling officials doing IOC wrestling official's things?

Sorry if already discussed -- which cable channels, if any, are carrying wrestling live? Or is it just available on streaming basis?

USA Network has some as well as Peacock.

I can’t believe Susaki lost! What a ****ing massive upset
They don't really get bigger!

At least last year, Sarah is 1-1 vs. her Mongolian Semi opponent. Won 10-0 at a ranking event, and lost 7-3 in the semis at Worlds. I never would have thought she had a prayer at gold, but if she wrestles her best, I think it's within reach!

I rewatched just now and think they got it right. AZE was up 3-0. MGL gets to a leg, AZE counters with a whip, they both go over but MGL's shoulders don't break the plane; MGL gets control and behind AZE, plus exposure, but since the exposure is in the same move she only gets two. 3-2 MGL.

Was it a scoreboard error, or did the score it 4 AZE and 2 MGL at first? I thought I saw the score as 7-2 shortly after the exchange, but Lemonpie thought it was 7-0 on the board and was strictly a scoreboard error.
Anyway, that trip to lose a match gave me Michael Beard flashbacks from his match against Amine.

It went up on the board, briefly, as 7-0 because, I'm guessing, it initially looked like AZE might have exposed MGL from standing, which they then decided wasn't exposure. MGL's two came immediately after, which is why it was then 7-2 on the board, despite that it perhaps should've been 7-1 instead, if you saw MGL's two as a reversal. So no, not a scoreboard error, a scoring error that they rescinded.

Joe Rau gets pulled into repechage!

@Richie O I think the plan was a new thread for each day, if so, can you split this thread out for Day 2 starting w/ post 53?

Sarah is on deck.

(Mod note - @nerfstate someone will need to start a new thread each night for the following day. The day after the completion of the wrestling all threads will be merged back into the first)
