No, No, No, No way in h$ll. It means a lot to say to recruits that we have played in a NY6 Bowl 3 out of 4 years. That recruit "could be" the one that gets us over the hump and to the playoffs.
Exactly. Playing Auburn or Florida or an SEC team in the Outback Bowl is short-term gratification. For 3-hours on January 1st it is a better game than Boise State or Virginia. But that's it. It is 3-hours of gratification.
The long-term view is that playing in ANY of the NY6 bowls is better than the Outback. Look at all of the tweets, ads, banners, marketing campaigns... put out any the university. You watch a game on TV and they'll show statistics like "Most wins by programs over last 4 years", or "NY6 Bowl Games last 4 years".
You sure as heck know that when James Franklin goes and talks to a recruit, he is very quick to say "We are one of only X number of programs that has been to 3 NY6 bowl games over the last 4 years...." ....... That is a selling point.
