Not great but hard to judge based on wind & weather. Jennings struggled mightily with it. We also did not need him much as D shut down SMU. He made several critical drive savers with his legs. I would say C plus. What is the openion on how he did today?
He looked lost on that early drive where he could have run for the first down or thrown to Allen who was standing all alone. I'm not sure what the confusion was. Overall I'd say his performance was very average but we didn't need much more than that since we cashed in on turnovers. Not great but hard to judge based on wind & weather. I was at the game. He was very indecisive, happy feet in the pocket. Seemingly back to last year where more focused on not making a mistake vs. making a play. That said, his legs were key and led to some points.
He needs to play MUCH better if we are to win it all. Can’t expect the D to score two touchdowns every game.
In my opinion, it's highly possible he was concerned about getting hurt. I’d guess the coaches' concerns were in his mind, even if they didn’t specifically mention it to him. Honestly, losing Beau was a bigger blow than most are willing to admit. He looked lost on that early drive where he could have run for the first down or thrown to Allen who was standing all alone. He played like he did for most of the year. He is what he is and we tend to win with that.what is the openion on how he did today?
Nine games over 200 yards with two of those over 300 and this was his lowest yardage output all year, but yeah, just like most of the year (eye roll). He played like he did for most of the year. He is what he is and we tend to win with that.
I thought he played OK. Some of the plays he made don't show up in the passing stats, but were good plays nonetheless. An average to above average QB who doesn't give the game away could be enough to make a run.Not close to being elite. Like I have said before on this board, He is average
We’ve had a lot of average quarterbacks….he is way better than average. Not close to being elite. Like I have said before on this board, He is average.
And he was fine tonight. Even Grunk was picked. Our offense is going to struggle in this environment. If he plays poorly against Boise in a controlled environment you may be able to make a point but he was infinitely better than Jennings and both are way better than average college QBsIf, If, If......
I wish it were true. Not a good performance tonight.
Fiesta Bowl not the Orange. That's the way I saw it. Drew did not take chances and seemed almost to be "aiming" the ball. When a baseball player does that he has trouble finding the strike zone.
I don't fault Drew for this. He was carrying a lot of weight (for Franklin especially). Massive pressure. This is a game that could have made life terrible for James Franklin. For whatever reason, Drew Allar seems to care a lot about James Franklin.
Jennings showed us the other side of the coin today. He played the game that Drew was avoiding.
If Penn State gets to the Orange Bowl and wins that game then the pressure will drop considerably. Don't even have to win the final game, just get there. The monkey will have been removed from the back. But that is a very tall order.
Franklin stresses people out and makes the players nervous? My god what a moronic post. I guess going for a first down on 4th and 1 from your own 20 early in the game with a 14 point lead was “playing not to lose” and not being aggressive and encouraging your team and coaches to go and win games Unbelievable. You people are demented.
He’s a great player who had a good day.
The wind ruined all long throws.
(The other QB is actually very good too and gave us multiple free touchdowns due to not understanding swirling wind.)
All that said, Franklin clearly stresses people out. Many players seem very nervous. I hope he starts encouraging his people and coaches to go and win games rather than not losing them.
I agree. His o line struggled in pass pro and his receivers couldn’t get open yet again causing him to hold on to the ball. He made a few passes that only a few passes only a few college qbs can physically make. If you are a PSY fan bitching about Drew Allar with the cast of characters around him on offense you are either blind or your son is his back up.And he was fine tonight. Even Grunk was picked. The biggest performance improvement in Allar is coach K's offense makes him better. Not saying he hasn't personally improved at all because he has but remains inconsistent in his footwork and decision making at times. Yesterday I will give him credit for the weather as it was brutal especially when driving into that wind. No doubt that a couple top shot WO's and this conversation probably doesn't happen much. IMO he will look better next week. If, If, If......

Receivers were open all over. He didn’t see them or anticipate them coming open. Yesterday was not on the receivers ( except the interception )I agree. Here’s a novel concept, how you play game to game has a lot to do with the team you’re playing against. SMU’s strength was their DLine specifically their DT’s. So the next game will be different. Boise State has a great running game…if they come out and rack up a bunch of rushing yards but we still win, does that mean the next game our rush defense is going to be bad?Our O Line was sub par and that negatively affected his play. Plus the weather.
He was off also. I expect him to play better vs Boise.
If we beat Boise which we should the Georgia or ND game will be very difficult if we play like we did today. If we can't run our offense won't do much (see OSU game).
Do you mean giving them a hug when they run of the field after screwing up? I dont think so. Kick them in the azz.You people are demented.

He didn’t have a great day passing, but he had a very good day quarterbacking….he made plays with his feet and his creativity. Good players find ways to help their team win and that’s exactly what he did. I’m quite sure the weather had a lot to do with his performance.Receivers were open all over. He didn’t see them or anticipate them coming open. Yesterday was not on the receivers ( except the interception )
You play to win the game......and that is precisely what he did.what is the openion on how he did today?
I agree 100%. Our receivers corp always looked better when Beau entered the game.Receivers were open all over. He didn’t see them or anticipate them coming open. Yesterday was not on the receivers ( except the interception )
How many repititions does he need? You play to win the game......and that is precisely what he did.
DA is definitely a work in progress.
Those that would like to consider him elite do so because he can make the type of play that only an elite QB has an opportunity to make.
At this point in time, some of DA's greatest strengths can also be his weaknesses.
For example several of those ridiculous completions that Drew made against Oregon cause him to over rely on his arm instead of his footwork and throwing mechanics.
These problems will get better with improved confidence and repetitions.
Unfortunately, as many as it takes. How many repititions does he need?
This simply isn't true...your ignoring so much hereReceivers were open all over. He didn’t see them or anticipate them coming open. Yesterday was not on the receivers ( except the interception )
Best comment by anyone in monthsOver the years that I've been on this board I've gotten used to what PSU fans are like (any football fans for that matter), and I fully expect the backup QB to be the most popular player on the roster, but the way some fans regard Drew Allar is still absolutely perplexing to me. His line has been reasonably good for most of this season, but they still have games where they look more like turnstiles than blockers and nobody can deny that his wide receivers are pedestrian at best. Yeah, he has good Tight ends and decent receiving backs, but you simply can't have big passing numbers without a threat or two at WR and he has none. Here are his career numbers, for what it's worth....I don't see much/anything to bitch about. He IS an elite college QB.
In three seasons at Penn State, Allar has 5,869 passing yards, 50 touchdowns and owns a 21-5 record as a starter. His 63.6 completion percentage is the highest of any quarterback in the program's history and he has thrown only nine interceptions in 773 passing attempts.
You can’t be serious. I mean really get a clue.I agree 100%. Our receivers corp always looked better when Beau entered the game.

For some fans the backup QB has been the most popular plans for all of the 65 years I have been a fan. Your comments about Allar are interesting particularly since he didn’t play much his first year.Over the years that I've been on this board I've gotten used to what PSU fans are like (any football fans for that matter), and I fully expect the backup QB to be the most popular player on the roster, but the way some fans regard Drew Allar is still absolutely perplexing to me. He’s only been playing QB for seven years total. He didn’t start until his freshman year of high school. That’s why he’s staying another year. How many repititions does he need?
