And that's why Ovechkin....

This is nothing new for Widdle Sidney. He's been pulling this crap for years. To his credit, he plays the refs like a Stratavarius and draws many power plays for the Pens

I'm a Sharks fan and they are out of the playoffs, so I think I can look at this play in a somewhat unbiased fashion. I was not aware that Crosby has any kind of reputation for flopping but whether or not that is the case, this sure as hell did not look like a flop to me. Niskanen flat out drilled him. Full on cross check to the face. Ovechkin's shots to the shoulder and helmet were so quick that they seemed rather mild by comparison. Not sure why most posters are on Ovechkin more than Niskanen. I thought Niskanen's hit was a lot more flagrant. Maybe because Ovechkin is a bigger name?

Clear as day...could have called 3 penalties on Ovie:
1. Slash to right arm
2. High stick to back of head
3. Tripping (kicks out the back of Crosby's left skate)

True, true and true. Ovechkin's play is arguably just as dirty as Niskanen.

If the Caps wind up winning this series, I'm going to be pretty sick.

Stick to head by Ovechkin looked accidental after he hacked his arm trying to keep him from scoring. That seemed to stun- if not knock out- Crosby. The follow up seemed like a reaction to somebody falling right into him. I don't think I see anything dirty in this play as much as it was just unfortunate.

I can't wait for the day someone takes a run at Ovi or gives him a two hander to the wrist. It has been 12 years in the making. He's one of the biggest cheap shot artists in the league, yet no one talks about it. Constantly leaving his feet for hits.

Maybe because he's known for it a bit? He took a nasty shot on Werenski that had him out for a week or so at the end of the regular season. Mind you, hockey is a physical game--and should be.

I'm guessing you can't be serious. Crosby is the biggest cheap shot pussy in the league, protected by the refs. This did not look like it was intentional, unlike crosby's slash last month when he whacked off half a guys finger. I hope they hit the big cry baby a few more times
Stop. You're embarrassing yourself. If you're capable of that . . .

Crysby got tapped in the helmet and decided to go "thespian" by feigning injury. Bad things happen to fakers...they encounter backchecking opponents.
And another useless comment -- complete with the "Ped-State" equivalent "Crysby." Very creative . . .

This is where the NHL has to step in. This was dirty and cheap. Its not even a question. NHL MUST suspend Niskanen for the rest of the series, Ovi for the next game. NHL has to take care of its stars. You can't award a desperate team for taking cheap shots at the most skilled players because they can't keep up.

1. It isn't the shot in the head from Ovie that bothers me the most, it is the blatant trip

2. I have watched a lot of hockey in my life. In Crosby's case, perception is reality for most people. They see him complaining a lot, but the fact is, he takes more cheap ass shots FROM other players than anyone else in the game. He just had his teeth knocked out a few weeks back because of a cheap ass cross check to the face. Everyone guns for him because he is the best, so obviously he has more to complain about than lets say, anyone on the Flyers, who have no skill, so nobody needs to play cheap.

3. The NHL needs to really reconsider how they treat their stars. Lemieux had his career cut way short because of what the NHL allowed in the 90s. And I fear for Crosby as well.

Pens fans are hilarious at this time of year. They act like their whole team (including Crosby) is made up of altar boys and boy scouts.

Of course they are not alter boys, this is hockey, and yeah of course Crosby has done some cheap stuff. For instance the OReilly nut shot was payback for a cheap shot earlier. But, I have yet to see Crosby go out of his way to take someone out of a game and I have seen it happen multiple times with Crosby. Blatant, cheap, pathetic shots to his head.

How is the golf course?

Golf course is fine, see you there soon.

So it's OK if the Pens do cheap stuff, but not OK if other teams do it? OK, seems reasonable.

You call them as you see them. It was a cheap shot on Crosby. Case closed. What happened before, or in the next game, you officiate when they happen.

Just stop acting like only the other teams do it. It's the Pens as well. And yes, sometimes even the Pens get away with it. Deal with it.

My point is other teams take cheap shots at Crosby over and over again. That is the point. It is a tough sport and stuff happens from time to time, but the amount of times crosby is targeted is obviously intentional. Also, it also explains why he "whines" more than other players. It is because no one bothers targets a crap player like Giroux or Schenn, they have nothing to "whine" about.

When you have the best player in the league constantly taking cheap shots to the head, you have a problem with the league.
Oh and for that matter, this is the third time the Caps have done this.

I haven't been a hockey fan since the strike. But what the Caps did cannot be condoned or allowed in the league. Yep, there are cheap shots and retaliations, but this is game three against the two best teams in the division....and against the best player in the league (who has been roughed up a ton).

The integrity of the NHL is at stake. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the Caps know the Pens are the better team and are trying to take out their best players.

Well, some of that may have been Lemieux's own heath issues. You'd have to figure the cancer took a toll even though he was cured.

But Eric Lindros was another. The league wouldn't protect him because he was (a) quite big and (b) a Flyer (with an ex-Ranger coach being the head of discipline in those days).

Again, however, that said, hockey is supposed to be a physical, hitting game. But head shots have no place in that game (with one exception--I've seen player take a head shot because they've put their heads down--and one of the prime rules of playing hockey is to always keep you head up--those cases may need to be considered as possible mitigating circumstances).

You don't get it. Anyone, including Pens and Crosby should face severe penalties for cheap shots and using the stick as a weapon.

What severe penalties should Crosby have faced for the stick to the O’Reilly's groin or for "amputating" Methot's finger? Where was the outrage on this board then?

Yeah, I thought so

He should have been suspended ya dope. But in reality, the O'Reilly groin shot was nothing compared to a head shot. Again, he should have been suspended. And you are acting a little melodramatic regarding Methot's finger. He barely hit the dude on his finger, but apparently right in the perfect spot. It was ugly for sure, but it wasn't a cheap play, just an unfortunate one.

And you expect outrage from Penguins fans over that? Outrage from Ottawa would have made sense. I think the emotion from Pens fans would be relief and a little bit of shame.

Yo moron, read the post I was responding to. Both cases Crosby used his stick as a weapon. Pens fans act like they're being treated unfairly, which is laughable.

You're not the brightest bulb.

Total freaking idiot, so it makes absolutely no difference to you if the stick is to the HEAD or the hand (or nuts)
It is ok, my assumption is you live in Philadelphia, so mostly likely sad and angry.

Neither are you. Read the post again. we are acknowledging that cheap shots or stick injuries should be penalized no matter what team or what player is responsible.

He is a Flyers fan so the assumption is that is reading skills are somewhat limited.

You're a total, total freaking idiot. Read the post again "Stick used as weapon". Now you're quantifying body parts. lol

Don't live in Philadelphia. Not a hockey fan. Just find Pittsburgh sports fans humorous is their constant "victim" roles.

You're right up there with PennStateNate in your delusional opinions.

Another dim bulb. Read the post again. I asked:

- What severe penalties should Crosby have received (no answer from you)

- Where was the outrage on this board for Crosby's actions (no answer from you)

Yeah, seems incidental

And yet when the baby hacked off a guy's finger, did he even get a penalty? Amazing the tunnel vision Pittsburgh fans have. But this is nothing new. Worst fans in all of sports, and yes, that includes Philadelphia.

That has nothing to do with this event. You can play that game forever. It was a cheap shot done in desperation because the Caps were about to be eliminated. Sobeit, but if the NHL doesn't do something about it, they will continue to be a second rate sports conference.

Don't be surprised there's no outrage. Whatever a Pittsburgh player does is perfect, and everyone else sucks. And don't disagree, or you then labeled an idiot. Those Pittsburgh morons never change....
