Any update on Nolf??? Anyone with insider info?

Can Kuhn find two wins and make the NCAA’s? Did Nick learn from his first go-around with McKenna? Will Keener earn his trip to nationals, or rely on an at-large selection? Will Joseph avenge his loss vs. Marinelli? How will Shakur respond now that he IS “the man?” Even with all of our studs, there is a lot to be learned at the B1G's.

1. Maybe
2. Maybe
3. We'll see
4. We'll see

Now - let's all get back to parsing Cael's words like it's the Zapruder film!

Would also be a case where Cael has Nolf wrestle some dead fish in the first round, to get a feel for his knee and the brace .... and then they MFF Nolf for the remainder of the tourney for precaution sake.

I could see this happening. He was very clear to say he'd go ON SATURDAY.
I think he might wrestle 2 "easy" matches then MFF.

Cael also said in the very beginning of the interview, "he's been wrestling hard for a while now. Not just drilling." He absolutely gave me the impression that Nolf is ready to roll on Saturday.

Watching the Nolf interview, however, well... I think Nolf just didn't want to speak out of turn. We shall see Saturday at 10.

Pumped either way for the next 2 and a half weeks.

"I don't think he'd have to wrestle any matches" in order to qualify, Sanderson said. "We found that out last year with Suriano. That's not going to be the same deal as this year for us (regarding Nolf). We want him to wrestle."

The last two sentences in that quote tell me he isn't going to show up and MFF the first match. Specifically said they aren't going the route that they went last year with the Rutgres kid.

Since 2nd & 3rd hand speculation is sooooooo fun ...

I have a buddy who is tied into the WPIAL/Young Guns scene....

Late Dec 2016, he told me Teasdale was going to flip from Iowa to PSU ... and a few weeks later, Teasdale did flip. He’s been solid w other random nuggets over time.

So, as always, TIFWIW-
Same guy texted me today and said:

“I talked to ******** on Monday. The plan is to let him wrestle 2 matches and see what it feels like to wrestle w the brace on and then default out. He doesn't want to wear the brace.”

Diggerpup, for fun I was counting the *'s to see how many letters in the name you blanked out. I was relieved to see that your source had more letters in their name than Spyker :)

LMFAO.

True. It’s not Spyker.

The ****** person is someone close enough to the Nolf family who would definitely know ...
.... but with anything:

1. 2nd & 3rd hand info can be flimsy.
2. Plans can change.

We won’t know for sure until Saturday.

EDIT - this hearsay nugget seems to line up w Jeff Byers report.

Funny how we all watch the same things and come up with different interpretations..

My take from Cael is Nolf is going to wrestle without a doubt. Then when I watch Jason, I think he is just trying not to say anything one way or another (he didn't hear what Cael said at that point).
Yeah, I agree, I think he was coyly asking the reporter how he (the reporter) knew he was wrestling Saturday, b/c he (Nolf) hadn't heard what Cael had said.

I once had something similar happen to my knee, where, as a result of pressure, the cap slid across the knee in a way it shouldn't have. I was fine a few days later. I don't know if it was really the same thing as happened to Nolf but it seemed like it might've been. It's injuries to the back of the knee that sideline you for months. So I've been less worried for Nolf, and that could be misguided, but I think he's going the whole tournament.

It does have the same number of characters as "Tom Ryan" (including the space).

Coincidence?

Sounds like you're a plausible source with a plausible scenario.

My take initially was that Cael said he’s going to go on Saturday and Nolf, who was made available to the media at the last minute was taking some fun jabs. Perhaps he had not been sat down and given the exact outline of the game plan. Regardless, I think we can all agree from Jeff’s mouth to Gods ears.

Lol. Perfect. Again...for those who missed the earlier post

He’s wreslting at least one match, likely in a brace. Been practicing without it and the knee has been tested without incident. Jason wants to wrestle the whole thing.

Shorthand version of Byers words today.
Why would he wrestle in a brace.....there should be plenty of room in the gym. Jason has been practicing without his knee? Nolf vs the world?;)

In fairness, Cael was VERY wishy washy about whether Nolf was cleared. Admittedly, he may have simply not wished to discuss it, but his final answer was, "if he's wrestling on Saturday, then obviously he's cleared" and that could mean anything. Again, it's fun to prognosticate, but it surely isn't doing any of us any good because we're no more certain that he is or isn't even AFTER those interviews. I'm OK with that, we'll know soon enough.

Cael wasn’t wishy washy about Nolf being cleared, he was wishy washy about when or how long ago he was cleared .... He said that may be protected medical information that he couldn’t release so he just said he is wrestling and therefore is cleared ...

Can you imagine if he has first round bye and he wrestles 2 matches into the finals and they try to tell him to MFF the finals? They would never get him out of their ears.

Zen master tactics

And, we think they don't read these boards, or aren't at least aware of them. Jason and Cael are play-trolling both us and HR with this stuff. And, they're really, really good at it.

Byers on the Steve Jones show today:

Jason will wrestle at least one match. Jason is lobbying to wrestle the whole thing but Byers figures 50/50 for that to happen. He is not wrestling with a brace in practice but believes there will be one Saturday. No one in the room seems to avoid his knee, and Byers indicated he has seen the knee tested in practice.

If it is one match, I hope it is Van Brill. If Jason does wrestle this tournament and the NCAA's, I think (strictly my opinion) that he will be more business-like and less "experimental" if you will. I think he knows he can't try to do some of the stuff he normally does during a match.

I doubt Nolf forfeits a match if he's set to wrestle Jordan. Cael isn't going to give OSU team points for free.

He will if Jason's knee is swollen like a canteloupe. Hopefully that doesn't happen. I agree that if Jason wrestles a couple of matches and has no obvious ill effects it would be hard to hold him out of a final vs OSU (or anyone else) strictly as a precaution.

For Christ's sake, just say it instead of pussyfooting around.

Here is the translation. And for the record, I have no inside info but this is what everybody implies when they talk about this. Again, this is what mutliple people have implied or even said specifically.

Nick's dad is a jackass. He is the guy who runs the roost in the family, is unreasonable, and is the one who had a problem with something unrelated to the injury. It's implied he was unhappy that Nick was not the epicenter of PSU wrestling (how could he be when half the team are superstars) even though he was only a true freshman. He saw an opportunity with the injury (as an excuse) to move Nick to a program where he would no doubt be THE superstar. There are now rumors that the father is up to the same nonsense with Nick being at Rutgers, in other words he's unhappy about something and that is the reason for most of the action Nick has missed in the last month.

Again, this is what has been implied by a number of posters over the last year. It's from a message board so you know, take the whole thing with a grain of salt because I doubt the truth can be found here on a message board.

I thought this was about Nolf, not NS. I'm over the NS situation.

Hopefully Nolf can wrestle but I understand why he would be held out as well. Bigger fish to fry in a couple weeks in Cleveland.
