AS THE BIRD TURNS (IOWA STUFF)

The 2020 seeds were. Probably 4 champs in there and maybe a fifth. But the year was never intended to be a punt because Cassar was back, a healthy Berge was looking pretty good, and Conel had transferred in because Shack was supposed to go 184 with Brooks redshirting.

Injuries to all but Brooks derailed that season and then CoVid.

1174Mark Hall (Penn State)
2141Nick Lee (Penn State)
2165Vincenzo Joseph (Penn State)
3184Aaron Brooks (Penn State)
5133Roman Bravo-Young (Penn State)
19149Jarod Verkleeren (Penn State)
21197Shakur Rasheed (Penn State)

Candidly, I think 2020 would have looked similar to 2021. Iowa wins but has some under achievements and PSU steals the show with 4 champs (RBY gets Top 4) Tournament scoring favored that kind of team as we would have 92.5 points pre bonus by those projections, which I don't think a non Iowa team can touch.

Spencer would have scored upper 20s though and Iowa would have had 7-8 AAs (Assad, Young, Murin were iffy) and plenty of bonus to win comfortably though.

It would have been close, but only because you guys lost Cassar. He doesn't beat Gable again, but he still makes the finals.

The change in levels of heavy from 2019 to 2020 forward was astounding. I don't think Derek White is an AA this day and age anymore.

I think it's mostly because we're in a new era of true elite wrestlers transferring. That used to be pretty rare. Off the top of my head:

Andrew Howe - already had DT and Brown at 165/74
Suriano - started at PSU

I'm honestly blanking on anybody else. In that same span, we've seen PSU plug holes with a bunch of transfers. Most didn't pan out super well. They got Jered Cortez, Cory Keener, Carson Kuhn, Jimmy Lawson, Geno Morelli, Drew Hildebrandt, and Max Dean. The only guy I can remember them going after and missing on recently was Desanto and he didn't fit in the lineup well anyway.

This was the first year where you guys had 2 holes with elite wrestlers available at both weights. And you unsurprisingly hit a home run.
DeSanto was not a "go after" recruit, he was a kick the tires type of pursuit.

Why tell someone you’re putting them on ignore?
At first I had a policy, no use of Ignore on GIA. Then I read what I would consider over-the-top nasty/mean-spirited/vulgar posts (not necessarily directed at me mind you), and thought, "I don't really need to read this."

So I started to ignore only those kinds of posters. It's not even permanent. It's more like probation/timeout.

I will still end up showing ignored comments. Then I am either reminded why I ignored them and when it's refreshened I won't unignore for a while, or I decide to unignore them crediting time served with good behavior.

That's just my process, and I use it on all boards.

It’s interesting to read those that think TnT need to go vs those that defend TnT for having 2nd best program in the country.

Not unlike where we PSU fans are with Franklin. Some see a top 10 finish nationally more often than not as acceptable and others do not.

I don’t see how you fire the coaches of a program that, as a whole, are 2nd best over the years. That sets the stage to go through coaches every few years when they aren’t #1. Good luck staying top 5 or 10 under that plan.

And the thoughts of hiring a stud wrestler with no university coaching experience is even crazier to me. There’s more to coaching than coaching, if you get what I mean.

Goodale is the only head coach hired without previous college coaching experience, right?

This rarely happens in other sports and for good reason -- namely because they almost always fail.

It is a weird situation. They are probably the second ranked program, but since Cael arrived at PSU Ohio St has more top 2 finishes. Ohio St and Cornell have been better at developing champions and Missouri will probably catch them this year.
From a PSU fan's perspective I am all good with TnT chasing Cael and the Lions. They are stuck on the tough guy routine and show little ability to adapt. With a rare exception they will always be chasing their tail thinking they are right there when in reality they ain't anywhere near catching a Lion by the tail.

You whiff by not recruiting him in the first place. Drop the ball whatever ya want to call it. When we don’t recruit kids like that and Aaron Brookes we’re failing.
We recruited Aaron Brooks. The lie that we didn’t was started by his father to rile up Iowa fans.

Say it ain't so...
DO we have a market on the dirtbag dads?? (sarcasm enabled)

I wanted to reply yes, you guys did recruit Brooks but it was at Nationals 2 years ago..
And Mr. Brooks doesn't say things to rile anyone up especially since you guys don't need anyone from the outside to do that.
