Allar couldn’t hit wrs when they were open either. Just an awful performance from him.
He played the entire season handicapped by the wide receivers. This loss is on the wr room and the incompetent coach who is responsible for themIf we're being honest, Drew threw three picks tonight. Those were some big time bail out calls.
The WRs aren't the reason they lost. But they suck. The staff doesn't do them any favors even trying to get them open. All season long people are making excuses for the wide receivers. They stink. And we lost because of it tonight. Period.
Enough playing around.Either Hagans needs to go, or you need two more receivers in the portal. ZERO catches by Penn State wide receivers. You cannot win the biggest games with this glaring deficiency.
I think the pattern here should be obvious to all but the most uninformed. We knew the WRs would do nothing. This is not like Warren had zero catches.
We somehow lost even though we won the turnover margin and ran the ball solidly? Why? Allar was lousy in key moments. Has to hit Singleton in stride at the goal line. Needs to make plays on the drive before the pick when 24 all. He just needs to, plain and simple. That is what championship qbs do. And of course the ridiculously bad pick to essentially seal our fate. I mean the guy was brought in to win these games making winning plays in the clutch and he makes losing plays. My god is that disappointing.
Don't let the defense off the hook. They played a piss poor 2nd half. Allen needs to get criticized. We cannot give up that tying TD. Again championship teams close the game out at that point.
ND made the critical plays in clutch moments and we did not. Do I need to list the number of big games over the last 8 years where we don't make the plays in crunch time and the opponent does? This result should not be surprising. It is the culture of the program led by Franklin. We do NOT have the mental fortitude to win these close, tough games against an equal opponent in talent. Seen it over and over and over and over. Same bad movie. I have serious doubts Franklin will or can ever win a game like this. He just is incapable. Yes we can beat a mediocre USC in a close game or a far inferior on talent Minny team but when it comes down to playing a team with equal or better talent on a big stage with a lot riding on the game we never can win it. Never. This loss is just another gut punch. Thank you James.
He was bad.Not at Super Bowls they didn’t. Don’t think they ever lost a Super Bowls due to their play. Maybe a regular season. Aikman, Manning and Brady stepped up when it mattered. But that unfair to Drew to compare him to three HOFs. But tonight was Drew’s worst game.
Fix it. Fire Franklin. They don't have a chance period. They are awful and we're awful all season. This is the sole reason they lost tonight.
Fix it. Fire Hagans.
They are better than ours.ND is going to the National Championship without any.
Who hired him? That is the man responsible bottom lineHe played the entire season handicapped by the wide receivers. This loss is on the wr room and the incompetent coach who is responsible
Allar has some blame. Played horrendous today. He played the entire season handicapped by the wide receivers. This loss is on the wr room and the incompetent coach who is responsible for them
Another five paragraphs of making excuses for the worst wide receiver room in the country. The only non service academy to finish a game without a wr catch in three years. We knew the WRs would do nothing. This is not like Warren had zero catches.

Sounds silly at first, but the biggest thing that I want from HCJF is I want him to stop signing rookie WRs who require him to give their girlfriends face time on signing day. Cringe worthy stuff, that. Zero results. Etc. Unbecoming. The wide receivers ARE the reason they lost. Period. Zero catches for zero yards.
The truth of the matter is we don't have any WO's and Allar was off after the early drops. The WO problem belongs to the receiver coach. Last night Allar was simply Alar. I will be shocked if by spring we don't have another Receivers coach.Either Hagans needs to go, or you need two more receivers in the portal. ZERO catches by Penn State wide receivers. You cannot win the biggest games with this glaring deficiency.

Well, he was off last night so I guess I can be off in a post or two. Besides I haven't finished my first cup of coffee. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.At least spell the kids name correctly…
PSU didn't have to play for OT. Just don't throw into the middle of the field under pressure when you've deep in your own end. Do something safe like throw a swing passes to Singleton. Don't take a risky shot downfield until after you cross the 50.Franklin is a fool for not playing for OT. PSU could not stretch the field, and the short field in OT was suited to PSU’s strengths. Horrendous coaching decision by Franklin.
And how many of us really slept last night? I slept three hours and didn’t go into work today. I am as miserable as everybody else.Well, he was off last night so I guess I can be off in a post or two. Besides I haven't finished my first cup of coffee. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Laughable. His momentum was going toward the end zone and he had to turn his body to try to catch a pass @ his knees. It was a terrible pass that pros probably wouldn't catch. And Singleton should have caught it anyway. It was at his knees, not at his toes.
Such a pile of BS... In the end, that is on the field players have to take responsibility for their own actions. Allar needs some maturity and poise.Isn't it the coach's responsibility to teach his QB not to throw over the middle under pressure deep in your own end? McSorley did the same thing vs USC.
Earlier our CB falls down to give up game tying TD but it wasn't just that. Our high risk D only had one safety back to help Miller.
PSU gets a chance but Singleton gets a procedure penalty and then we run a 3rd down play that everybody in the stadium expected. Was that bad playing or bad coaching?
Then Durant gets a hands to the face penalty but somehow we forced a punt. We have a good 1st down run followed by an ill advised pass where Allar should have known better.
Sometimes players screw up but it happens too often at PSU. Are our players just stupid? Is PSU just unlucky? Or do we have a coaching problem? Those are the choices.
Well if you listen to our media people like Tom Hanifan, and T Frank, and Nate, and basically almost all of them, it's not Hagans fault. Poor guy was just up against it and had nothing to work with. 2 years later and they have gotten even worse. But our soft media refuses to grow a pair and bring it up.Aside from all of this, how do we think the WR’s played last night? I think they they did OK.
SMH
This has nothing to do with the problem but at some point it might be time to stop crying after losses.... that probably won't fly in the NFL. Drew might need 5 more years before he is mentally ready.Drew's performance was awful...the INT was awful..the playcall was awful..the busted coverage to tie game was awful..the 15 yard hands to face was awful.
Kid was crying eyes out in the press conference. Our coach getting paid millions is the problem. He chooses staff and he knows the scripts at key points in game. That is same result..every time
Frankly I think the season was a total miracle: We miraculously made it to the national semi final with the worst wide receivers and wide receivers coach in the nation. That alone was astounding.Such a pile of BS... In the end, that is on the field players have to take responsibility for their own actions. Allar needs some maturity and poise.
So, do posters here. None of you, especially you posted throughout the season with expectations that this team would end up 4 points from the CFP final game. You need need to take a good look at your selves. I despise crybabies. What was your W-L prediction before the season began?
I think that forced throw was due to poor coaching over the past 3 years. Allar should know better by now. As much as I like the kid I don't believe him that he was trying to throw the ball at Evan's feet.
Admittedly hi risk throws for PSU. The lack of any separation or ability to contest a throw has been a down fall of PSU this year. I really think it goes back to WR coaching position turn over. Recruiting is an issue when so many WR 's hi ranking recruits in our footprint go elsewhere. I think there has to be some talent in the wings or coming in thru the portal. Every tam of equal or better talent will expose opposing weeknesses. WR and LB play against OSU/PSU and now ND.It wasn’t a deficiency. The reason they lost the game is because they were still making high risk, ill fated passes downfield when they were blowing Notre Dame off the line of scrimmage, fooling them with misdirection and defeating their blitz with screens and flares. They didn’t need wideouts to win this game and even trying to use them lost it.
Except he didn't call that play. Koltenicky called it and Allar choked on the throw to a clearly covered player..
Franklin is just unlucky. How else do you explain 1-18 vs top 5 teams?Franklin did not slip on the grass resulting in a gimme TD to ND.
I'm not sure if there is time for dialogue during the helmet comms between AK and DA, but broader team objectives (safe passes, don't force it, OT is acceptable but not desirable, etc.) hopefully were communicated in addition to the play call.I agree that he should know better, but Allar largely does not make those kinds of mistakes - if anything he usually plays too "safe". So it's hard to know how much of the blame is on the coaches if he generally avoids those problems. It's not like he is regularly throwing across his body to the center of the field in games such that it's a tendency that needs to be corrected.
LOL, I slept like a baby. I'm turning the page today to recruiting and getting the second and third QB more/better prepared in the spring. And how many of us really slept last night? I slept three hours and didn’t go into work today. I am as miserable as everybody else.
Allar was on the sidelines as ND scored the game tying TD. Plenty of time to tell him to run or throw safe swing passes until we cross the 50 yd line. Plenty of time to reinforce that we cannot have a turnover on our side of the field.I agree that he should know better, but Allar largely does not make those kinds of mistakes - if anything he usually plays too "safe". I wish I had that ability!LOL, I slept like a baby. I'm turning the page today to recruiting and getting the second and third QB more/better prepared in the spring.
I don't know. I realize that none of us are actual members of the team. But if losing doesn't bother you, I am reminded of a quote from a legendary football coach:I wish I had that ability!

Plus, as a great coach from the south once said: "That pxssy is undefeated."
We know they can screw. Can they catch or run, tho? You get the idea. Can they even function on their own?
We could also consider going back to WRs who don't feel the need to distinguish themselve by being illustrated boys.
Let's stop pandering to those who have not yet grown up enough to stand on their own two feet, comfortable in their own skin.
That's a coaching thing that is really needed.
