Just wanted to give him a shout out for a huge win yesterday, rebounding from a tough loss against Paetzell on Friday. I feel he is forgotten sometimes between Brody being the bigger recruit and Devin having stolen our hearts the last 2 years. That being said, a win over a ranked opponent like that is something neither Brody nor Devin have come close to doing (all due respect)

That was no fluke win, Colaiocco didn't get caught, he got outwrestled the last 2 periods. Hopefully Brandon builds on it and may the best man win the 125 spot!

...could Brandon and Aaron pick up a few more matches in the Scuffle unattached over the holiday?...

bopper referred to a transfer in the Kerkvliet thread at 125 also ... I'm curious about that naturally but am totally cool with rolling with one of Teske or Meredith

Any names or is this 125 lbs a myth?
I added to the thread with a rumor of 125 transfer--but with the events over the weekend, a RS was pulled,( not to be confused with ABrooks RS) so the rumor was just a rumor or something else changed, so it looks like the possible 125 transfer will not happen. again this was all 2nd and third hand info.

Wilkes Open is another tourney some wrestlers will be going to.

Paetzell (who was a 33 last year) looked huge against Meredith. But Meredith looked really good at Clarion Open and yesterday was really encouraging. Bouncing back after Friday night makes even more impressive.

I would prefer not to say.:)

What do you think happened after clarion up til Sunday. I really though he would fair better but I guess he is pretty young and still learning. If he's going to be the man I say throw him in there. Wonder how he is doing against teske

Meredith wrestled hard every second of Fridays match and again on Sunday. I thought early on sunday he looked outmatched but just kept coming and imho outwrestled and broke a ranked guy.

Colaiocco could barely walk after that bout, he was totally gassed. From where I was sitting I could see him laid out on the floor just outside of the gym.

Brandon is a great example of the type of wrestler that led CS to take the job at PSU (i.e., he talked about how being in PA would provide unique advantages that wouldn't be available to him otherwise). Not many places that you can bring in an in-state recruit that really wasn't a national recruit (not sure, but they probably aren't using any scholie $$$ on him) that goes out and beats a top 10 ranked wrestler his rsFR season.

100% agree - we also got Verk to walk on I'm pretty sure when he was being offered quite a large sum of scholarship money elsewhere. When recruits like Zain, Nolf, Ruth (3 3 timers!?) qualify for In State tuition ... this helps Cael find his hammers and build depth.

I don’t know what happened. And i can’t speak for how he gets beat as bad he did Friday to upending a higher ranked wrestler on Sunday other than maybe jitters of a first dual meet. I would agree and wonder how he fairs in the 125 weight room battles

Wilkes Open is another tourney some wrestlers will be going to.
This includes starters. Since there are only 15 competition dates on the schedule, starters are allowed one more date to wrestle, even if they wrestle every dual and the Army Invitational.

This is Sunday, December 22nd, so some that don't go to the Olympic Qualifier in Ft. Worth will go to Wilkes to get their match count up.

Kudos to Brandon on the win Sunday. Back to work, keep learning, keep improving.

When he got the takedown his confidence level went sky high

Interesting observation--Wrestlestat calculations had Meredith ranked #27 before his match with Penn!

I followed Meredith's career in high school. Just to refresh my memory I went back and watched a couple of his HS matches, He was a good, solid wrestler. But that's about it. He placed 3rd at Regions as a Senior, and didn't place at states.

From that to beating the 10th ranked wrestler in the country? Who said Cael doesn't know how to coach lightweights?

Wrestling is a sport of match-ups and styles and the transitive theory obviously doesn't always work well. Furthermore, this is a kid with somewhat limited experience who may see more growth and confidence from week to week than you'd sometimes expect in a more experienced wrestler (one who has wrestled in big time venues all over the country during high school, etc.). I have no idea whether Sunday's win was a fluke, but young Mr. Meredith was relentless on Sunday and good things happen to that sort of kid.

Meredith's relentlessness and the Rec Hall effect were too much for his opponent.

Agree--Brandon deserves his own thread. It was nice to see that fire at 125 again. I enjoyed that match very much, and the standing O from the fans was awesome!

What I didn't like, was the body language form Schnupp, he did not look like a very happy young man.

I feel for Schnupp he is a fighter!

I know nothing about Meredith, didn’t see the match on Sunday, and don’t want this to be construed as anything against Brandon. Just wanted to share some history on Calaiocco that some here might not know. In 2018, he lost the national prep final to Zeke Escalera from Wyoming Seminary. Zeke was a freshman that year and was splitting time at 120 in 2018. In 2019 Escalera was not even a starter for Sem and when I asked a Sem wrestler last year why, I was told that Drew Munch was beating him in the room. When Sem wrestled Blair last year, Sem sent out Munch to wrestle Calaioccio at 126 and Colaioccio crushed him 13-4. Escalera left Sem and is somewhere in Oklahoma this year I believe. He is not currently ranked in the top 20 as per Intermat. This is just to point out that Calaiocco has lost big matches to a significantly lesser opponent.

To be fair, Escalera looked really talented in his freshman year at Sem. When they wrestled Bergen Catholic, he was beating Robbie Howard with a minute left in the 3rd period, but got taken down to his back and lost the match.

Was really impressed with Meredith's effort over the weekend. I think we have a bunch of fighters at 125. Gotta hand it to all of them.
