Not really garbage time--that was a huge pick that prevented USC from tying the gameGarbage time TD for ND making it look better than it was. Damn.
It wasn't garbage time ... USC was just outside the red zone threatening for the tying score.Garbage time TD for ND making it look better than it was. Damn.
Totally did.You’re missing my sarcasm.
I think that's what it was......and it probably wasn't a good idea, but we do have our second string in. Not fair to not let them play with the full playbook.Probably didn’t appreciate the last TD.
Probably should have taken a knee, but it is today’s college football.I think that's what it was......and it probably wasn't a good idea, but we do have our second string in. Not fair to not let them play with the full playbook.
You are pissed. Tough luck. Successful season. Playoff bound.Oregon has to fly east so I'm sure some think we're a lock to win
Why am I pissed? You are pissed. Tough luck. Successful season. Playoff bound.
My biggest concern is the seeding if we lose next week. You have 1 loss ND and 2 loss OSU who has a head-to-head win over us sitting there. The committee could move both of them over us, which means that making the CCG could cost us a valuable #6 seed. Seeds 5 & 6 are much more valuable than 7 & 8. I have no faith in the committee to do the right thing for teams that have to play an extra game, let alone against the #1 ranked team. Had OSU won today we'd have been a lock for #6 seed and in a great position with no worries about the suits in a conference room that make it up as they go and change their criteria week to week.On the one hand, you always want to win and you want to be at the top. You want to play the best and beat the best.
On the other hand, it's likely disadvantageous for us to make the Big 10 CCG.
If we win, we're the #1 or #2 seed in the playoff ... we get a bye (just like we would have gotten if we hadn't made the CCG, by not playing that weekend), but we may end up with an SEC squad in the 2nd round, and we don't get to host a game.
If we lose, we're probably back around where we are now, seeding-wise and we don't get a weekend off, but we get to host a playoff game.
Compare to not making the CCG, where we get to host a playoff game, get the "bye" week (the CCG weekend), and probably get a decent matchup in the 2nd round.
Ohio State won't be over us--not with that Michigan loss at home. ND is a valid concern. My biggest concern is the seeding if we lose next week. No guarantee we would have been a #6 seed…I could have seen them drop us behind ND so we wouldn’t play Indiana. My biggest concern is the seeding if we lose next week. I hope you're right but think you're giving the committee too much credit and discounting the power of the OSU name. We don't have any bad losses but the lack of big time wins could be a problem, and head-to-head likely comes into play when comparing teams with equal records. Regardless, my main point is the way today unfolded has gone from a pretty certain path for us to the unknown and less predictable, unless we beat Oregon. The format is flawed and I expect it will be changed very quickly. I personally wasn't real thrilled with UM winning and getting into the CCG and that doesn't make a lick of sense, we should all be thrilled with the opportunity but the playoff format takes that away.Ohio State won't be over us--not with that Michigan loss at home. ND is a valid concern.
Oregon would have to beat us by like 40 for it to really impact us.
I don't think I am honestly. My debate is whether or not they're 6 or 7. I don't think they fall far at all.I hope you're right but think you're giving the committee too much credit and discounting the power of the OSU name. True, but the committee has had 1 loss PSU ahead of 1 loss ND all along, and ND has a horrible loss on their resume. We have a strong case to be ahead of them. We have a less strong case to be ahead of OSU as they would have the same record and beat us on the field, at home. The biggest case for us in that scenario is that we had to play an extra game, and OSU would have a loss to a mediocre UM team. But I could easily see the committee weighing head-to-head more than the quality of the losses we'd each have.No guarantee we would have been a #6 seed…I could have seen them drop us behind ND so we wouldn’t play Indiana.
Or they're strategic and understand how this worksFolks that would rather not play for a conference championship and 1st round bye are wusses.
Also the home game factor. Maybe the next iteration of the format should also give the top 4 seeds a game at home as it's a financial boon for small college towns like PSU and huge for the fans to see a game of that scale without having to fly to a bowl destination. I'd have much more interest in attending a home playoff game vs. one in a bowl venue and the top 4 teams don't get that opportunity.Or they're strategic and understand how this works
We're not playing--we're fans. Players should want to play--we should want the easiest path
We could still could have been below 6 in that case with a Texas loss in the CCG and/or possibly Notre Dame passing us.My biggest concern is the seeding if we lose next week. And now it could be CCG, then home playoff game then neutral site playoff game then another neutral playoff game then a neutral site title game. It's too much. Just play at the higher seed. Also the home game factor. Maybe the next iteration of the format should also give the top 4 seeds a game at home as it's a financial boon for small college towns like PSU and huge for the fans to see a game of that scale without having to fly to a bowl destination. I’m hoping that they go with USCe over Bama if it comes down to it. The Cocks deserve it based on what they’ve done on the field. It depends, do you want Alabama or do you want Arizona State? Frankly if ASU wins the big 12 They deserve the 11 seed but you know that's going to Alabama
Knew someone would bring this up. OSU only had 1 loss in 2016 while we had 2. Different scenario.Since Ohio State was ranked ahead of us in 2016, we should be ranked ahead of them now.
Yep.Folks that would rather not play for a conference championship and 1st round bye are wusses.
It will be interesting between the two becauseI’m hoping that they go with USCe over Bama if it comes down to it. The Cocks deserve it based on what they’ve done on the field.
Well, since they didn’t count the conference championship game in ‘16, then we have one loss and OSU has two this year…OSU made it in ‘16 because they had one fewer loss and this year we have one fewer loss, so we should be ranked higher.Knew someone would bring this up. OSU only had 1 loss in 2016 while we had 2. Different scenario.
They counted the CCG then and will this yearWell, since they didn’t count the conference championship game in ‘16, then we have one loss and OSU has two this year…OSU made it in ‘16 because they had one fewer loss and this year we have one fewer loss, so we should be ranked higher.
Different scenario because now Ohio State has two losses and we only have one despite our loss being to them?Knew someone would bring this up. OSU only had 1 loss in 2016 while we had 2. Different scenario.
The one difference is that one of their losses was "a good loss"Different scenario because now Ohio State has two losses and we only have one despite our loss being to them?
Isn’t it exactly the same? Only reversed?
We will definitely be ranked above tOSU in this week’s ranking. But the relevant discussion is how would a 11-2 PSU rank vs a 10-2 tOSU. I actually think we stay above the Buckeyes but I can see the H2H argument rearing its head.Different scenario because now Ohio State has two losses and we only have one despite our loss being to them?
