"Bull" Marinelli

I’m not sure about a nickname, but Tom Ryan said the Bull looked like he outweighed Wick by 40 - 50 LBS, very large, unfair quickness advantage for Wick.;)

Wait. Didn't Marinelli get beat by IMAR in the quarters? There is no shame in that. IMAR is a tough, strong and dirty mother. Thank you Cenzo for neutralizing him!!
It’s a double elimination tourney...

Not to be nit picky, but it is not a double elimination tournament. In a true double elimination bracket, you can still place first after one loss, and after a 2nd loss you are completely out.
At NCAAs, once you lose you cannot take first place. Also, you can lose more than once and still be in the tournament.... I.e. you lose in the first round and again in the consolation semis... You'd still wrestle for 5th place.

With the hate on Marinelli? He is a tough out. No shame in losing to IMAR and Wick, although Wick really handled him.
Finishing 6th at Bigs and again at NCAAs does cause me to pause for a moment on the mental toughness aspect of the kid. He wrestles tough, but he seems to lose his focus after not winning.

It’s a 32 man bracket with pigtails and wrestle backs.

That's a loaded weightclass and his matches seem to be wars of attrition (not to imply he's not skilled). No gimmes in wrestlebacks at that weight. He beat the National Champ, AA'd. A lot to build on. I don't think he'll beat Cenzo again.

Really wasn’t the point. Kidtwist implied the OP was off because Bull lost to IMar not Wick. He lost to both ...

Marinelli had a great season as a freshman in a tough weight class.. Remember he was undefeated and ranked second after beating VJ. Yes, he piled up a bunch of losses late in the season but still AA..

Dont know why the cheap shots at the kid...

Being an AA as a freshman is no easy feat. Hats off to Marinelli. Why start a post to denigrate a college kid? We should be better than that.

Agreed, however at the same time I gotta say this seems like a thinly veiled shot/troll job at a certain alcohol inspired poster. One that claimed to not understand what was meant when, after VJ and the Bull matched up, someone claimed that the Bull was not on the same level as VJ even though he beat him. The same guy that claimed the Bull was completely in control of the whole match and initiated the throw.

Marinelli is going to be a great wrestler and tough out for the next 3 years.

You are certainly free to interpret my words as you wish and to fit them to an agenda, but I assure you that I am only trying to stand up for a college wrestler (not that he needs it) from an uncalled for attack. Not sure how it could be seen any other way.

Not you homie, was talking about the OP. I have no agenda.

The "this" I was referring to was the thread, not your post. My bad for not being more clear.

Marinelli has displayed some questionable sportsmanship over the season so lets not pretend he's an innocent victim here. Why do you think 3 times this year different opponents have had over-the-top celebrations after beating him? McFadden is as far from from Richie Lewis personality wise as you can get but went absolutely crazy after pinning him and also gestured toward the Iowa corner. At some point you have to ask why this keeps happening?

Same goes for Stoll. After getting planted by Casper, I told the guy sitting next to me to watch him because he cant lose without doing something and sure enough, a few seconds later he hits Casper with the ankle bands and gets a point deducted.

Marinelli is very tough. He is just inconsistent. I don't think we should be trying to tear him down, though. His nickname is fine. He's a Bull. He AA'd in his first season starting. He'll be better next year.

No worries, my friend. Apologies for misinterpreting.

This thread is so bad on so many levels. Wish Karma would say hello and let OP wrestle Bull to see if his nickname is warranted or not. Not a good look OP.

This. I mean, he beat Cenzo at his own game and appears to be the only guy who can do so.

This is one of those threads that didn't age well 1 second after it began.

We just won a national title in dramatic fashion, and we care about assigning a new nickname to somebody else?

Another lecture. RoarJefe is on fire today.

Two things. One, I was very surprised at how well Marinelli did this year. Impressive job. I still think he is sort of a limited wrestler, but he is super strong and solid on the mat. Two, I don't know if he will be better next year. Iowa's track record with "coaching up" larger guys has been less than spectacular. If you told me he hovered around the same level all four years, I wouldn't try to argue with you.

Not a lecture at all, just another point of view. Feel free to take pot-shots at me, though taking shots at the guys that sacrifice so much for this program behind the comfort of a keyboard is not fan-like, not even close. Your posts, the one above included, speaks volumes.

Agree, Marinelli needs to improve his offensive diversification from neutral to be truly elite, that is to be able to consistently beat the top guys at his weight such as Joseph, Massa, etc. At this point he certainly can be an elite wrestler on any given night because of his strength and positioning.

Yeah, I try to keep myself entertained every once in awhile. No, I don't cross the line with my posts with regard to individual wrestlers. As if your own sanctimonious horseshit isn't self-serving.
