Busiello 157 at Shorty Hitchcock

Busiello is like David Taylor, physically a very late bloomer. Not quite the technical skills DT had, excellent potential none the less.

Registered so far:
125 - Schnupp, Shunk (best non-PSU: Mininno, Maloney)
141 - Blumer (Boyd, Flores)
149 - Gardner
157 - Busiello (Saylor, Ross)
174 - Edsell (Foca, Reiniche)
197 - Hoopes (Cardenas)
HWT - Kerk (Pelusi, Fernandes, Wolfgram)

Others from Penn State

125 - Shunk, Schnupp
141 - Joey Blumer
149 - Luke Gardner
174 - Creighton Edsell
197 - Austin Hoopes

Not sure how much stock to put in this, but does mean Verkleeren and Shak tonight?

This is a great description -- of Cenzo.

Does Busiello have "excellent" potential? Let's wait and see how he does here first.

And can we draw any conclusions about his growth from this one registration? Is he at 157 because he grew, or because he (like many redshirts) just wants to compete without worrying about managing weight?

Yeah. Based on this I’d Predict Shak, Verk, Meredith going twice. Berge and Pipher split. But I definitely don’t have a plan.

David Taylor wrestled 135 his senior year of high school and wrestled 157 his first year at PSU while redshirting.

Busiello wrestled 138 his senior year of high school and is wrestling 157 his first year at PSU while redshirting.

Could Busiello wrestle 149 if he had too, probably. Could DT have wrestled 149 his first year at PSU, no idea.

Both had big jumps in their weight classes from their junior to senior year in high school.

Busiello is similar to DT in being a late bloomer physically. Does Busiello continue to grow who knows. Based upon his high school career, he is an excellent prospect, not the elite prospect that DT was. Key word is prospect, he will need to get stronger and adjust to wrestling bigger guys.

We'll have to agree to disagree on "excellent" prospect. I think he's a good prospect but need more evidence before willing to go with excellent.

I do think he'll be excellent on top. Less convinced about feet and bottom -- that's where I need to see more.

The pack caught up with him last year. DNP at Super 32 (losses to Van Ness and Serrano), and pinned by Aragona at Beat the Streets. How much of that was him adjusting to the new weight? Or how much was not facing lightweight 14-15 year olds? Time will tell.

Berge both mathes---Pipher and Verk split maybe.---If Berge only wrestler 1 match---something wrong--in my option.

I thought Cael just mentioned this week that Berge will be in and out.

As long as Berge is taking the mat there is nothing wrong, just caution. If there was any indication that things were out of sorts, he would not step onto the mat.

Is it possible Busiello is registered to wrestle 157 this weekend while descending to 149 and eventually compete for that spot?

any way to watch this? looks like brackets are going to be on flo arena, but no mention of video on that site

I dont see the connection... either way, the kid NEEDS mat time

Yea, I don't get the implied connection either. Actually, if the later were a potential possibility, I think it's likely he would be wrestling the Tourney (unless the poster is talking about this Sunday's dual).

I fear Berge has had another setback, possibly unable to clear concussion protocol. As I've stated previously, I'm a big fan of Busiello and he has a great potential upside, but he's not an answer for us at 149-157 this year, he needs a year to train in the room.
