Clarion Open and Other News...

On all fairness, he dominated Bulsak on top and on his feet. He got ridden like a rented mule in the 3rd, but he won 2 out of the 3 positions by far! Also, that was his first time in the third period in a college match ever. He needs to build up the cardio along with improving his bottom skills, but still an impressive day if you ask me!

I'll focus on the guy who went up 13-2 on Bulsak in his first action out of high school, and let the coaches worry about the last 7 points of the match.
Agreed. That was basically what I was trying to get across in my post. Lot of work to do. Expect trFR (or greyshirts) to have trouble on bottom. That was a little more than that but that's what we have coaches for.

Could have also been a case where he knew he had the match in hand, was a bit gassed, and figured getting rode wasn't the worst thing. If it was a 4-3 match maybe he prioritizes getting out.

Very plausible and that would be the biggest takeaway for me from the match. Like I said, what we have coaches for and a bunch of great wrestlers in the room.

All about getting better, not winning here. Quite conceivable Seth won’t be called on for 2 more years. Good to hear Beard is scoring.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but...

With Bo, Shak and Cassar all seniors, why are Seth and Michael both greyshirting...couldn't they have red shirted and started next year? I know Anthony may get another year, but it seems we'll need need at least two of Brooks, Seth, and Beard to start next year and they are all grey shirting

That is annoying on track, agreed. But the "depth" feature on each mat on track to see what matches are upcoming is awesome. I can live with that annoyance for depth.

On the bottom of arena there's an arrow for "Upcoming Bouts" - click on that and it shows the 3 matches on deck for each mat.

Nevills is definitely wrestling loose--which is good to see (if classifiable as "sloppy."). Gets a near-side cradle against Wolfgram in the 2nd and secures the fall.

Probably a scholarship issue IMO. Need money off the books. I assume Cassar will be back next year at HWT, Brooks and Beard will go as true fresh next year and Seth redhsirts

I know. It's better on track, tho. No need to change screens. On track, you can see the active bouts and the upcoming on the same screen. Also IIRC, track goes up to 5 deep, not 3. And track allows you to filter the red/green guys so only mats with your selection(s) show.

Also I think track has a button that shows you how the scoring occurred. Which is very cool.

I guess what I am saying is that track and the annoying pop-ups is still better than flo arena's current presentation.

Both interfaces leave a lot to be desired. Both are clunky and the overall layout could be improved. As a tech geek, I have noticed good user interface design has gone the way of the dodo.

My 2 cents. No one cares :)

Haha, rubbed some people wrong with my use of “sloppy” I guess...I’ve seen the kid wrestle a ton and I just thought he was a little lazy with a few shots against Reid and gave up some easy counters. Trust me, I’m a big fan of his and in no way meant to put him down. His cradle against Wolfgram was awesome btw!

Naw, sloppy is totally apt for some of that stuff--but I think it's a good sign he's staying "open." To be honest, he seems a good bit more aggressive than his brother, and that, combined with a year or two of experience, can only mean good things about the future.

Brooks' first match is #2087, not assigned to a mat yet, but it should be relatively soon. Cowboy is a big tourney, it seems!

I am so excited to have the season get underway! Great to have a thread talking about our future stars actually taking to the mat. We have six more years of Beard and Nevills (maybe seven with a possible Olympic redshirt). Pretty sure they will improve. The future is bright!

Managed to see the last two Nevills' bouts. No doubt there are things he needs to clean up, like all kids their first year out of HS. As others have said, he's got time, and he's in a great room. It'll happen.

Did Nevills and Rickert have a side bet on who could touch their junk the most on camera before the match. I think it was 10-9 . Not certain who won....but it certainly wasn't those at the table...... Uncomfortable

Rasheed may get a 6th year too, assuming he wants it. NCAA is handing them out like candy on Halloween.

That would be crazy. What year was he out? I remember his fresh year at 165. He was gassing hard and got beat out by Morelli IiRC. Then his sophomore year Hall won the job. junior year last year. senior year this year. Am I misremembering something?

Brooks looked awesome as expected. Looked like a 174 wrestling up. I’m sure his dad will check in. If so. What did aaaron weigh in at today? Did he have to cut at all?

what would be his claim for a 6th year? was he injured during his redhirt year?
I hear you but at this point what difference does it make? NCAA hasn't been following its own rules.

In any case, back to the original question -- makes sense financially and for flexibility. Still have 5 years to compete in 4. And if you go straight thru without the redshirt, then no tuition cost for the first year.

Impressed with Thomas, the Pitt kid who beat Seth topside. Very athletic, nice double. Wins the bracket with a 12-3 major.

Well, I couldn’t see the match hardly because mat 10 camera went down...I finally found a nearby mat and did my best to watch it in the background.

Seth lost - 5-1 I think - and it looked like he got ridden for a bit in the third period. I did see him eventually escape and take some late shots, just wasn’t enough...4-2 on the day with atleast 1 loss that I’d consider a solid showing despite the result, couldn’t see enough of the last one to really say how he looked..not a bad day for a greyshirt heavyweight.

Ridden for about 5:30...

there are some things i'd like the programmers to improve on FloArena, but navigation isn't one of them.

can't quite understand how anyone would have problems getting to the info they want.

go to the tourney
click on brackets
toggle thru weights and frontside/backside

not sure i understand the difficulties.

could someone be specific? (not trolling. sincerely don't know what the problem is.)

For what it’s worth—I think Arena’s navigation is the best. The “upcoming” list on each mat would be my only feature request, but the current list isn’t awful, and I can see how it would help those following many different guys.
