Clarion Open

JLee went throw and ended up on his back. battled back to 8-9 and was in control of match. tired to throw again and ended up giving TD and backs and then got turned again in tilt.

if they wrestled again JLee would beat him. Just was entertaining the crowd and it didnt work.

NLee looked small to me against Zacherl got opening TD and then couldnt penetrate from there.

Zacherl without a single stall call in that match. Had to be in Clarion.

Block, block, block. Two nice reattack doubles in the second as Nick just is a little too aggressive here.

Not much I would be worried about. Kid still is going to be great.

As I pointed out above, the Klucker kid has been throwing kids for years. Got Coy twice with it, got JLee twice with it. You can't screw around with that kid up top. If you do, you are going to lose.

Just a note from the Midwest. Former PA state champ Mikey Labriola is in the finals of the Daktronics Open. He racked up 49 points in his first 2 matches. High school wrestler P. McKee will face NCAA runner up Ethan Lizek in the finals. Also Gabe Stevenson pinned his way to the finals
Lizak teched McKee 16-0 in the first period.

Just for perspective, Zacherl was 22-5 last year as a soph. He lost to Dean Heil 6-5 in NCAA tourney. His worst loss was 3-0 last year. Had one or two head scrachers though.

I saw Zacherl as much physically stronger than Nick Lee. Lee could not keep him down even briefly. Yes, I thought Zacherl was pretty defensive the entire match also.

Thank you all for posting! Today supports the depth that Cael has in the room, especially 197. Also thanks to the state of Indiana, the future will be Fun.

Did Shak’s body of work at 2 & 3 classes lower justify this, or are only 2 guys enetered? More serious question, if his career had been optimized only for him and without regard for the roster, would he have been targeting 184 from the start?

I’d love to see him have more consistent success at any weight - love his style in general.
In talking with him last summer I was told the coaches wanted him to build up to 184 but he wanted to honor the commitment to 165 since that was what he was recruited for. Last year the plan was 184 but when Nickal went up he decided to go 174 he ended up getting hurt last year which played a part in the end of his season. Watching him today he looks bigger but definitely could throw on some more size. As some already alluded 2 weight class jump is not easy

I don't know, either. Did I miss something?
Oh no, not on you. Just that he hit the cradle and it was over. Maybe I was thinking of Easy Ed...... he snatched at cradle and it was only a matter of time. In the fight Friday night his reach was significantly greater than the other guy. Good for boxing, even better for cradles.

Happy for Shak.

I think Joe read your comments in between matches and decided to go "chest to chest" with him and see who could throw the best. ha ha. Joe does wrestle higher than Nick at times, but he still typically shoots the legs well. I think he got off track. Sucks both had to wrestle at the same time!

He doesn't even look small at 197, how in the heck did he make 165? He must have been the tallest 165 in the country his freshman year...

Meh...plenty of time to write good things about young Mr. Lee.

Just listen to the coaches, young man. Improve on the wrestling mat, keep up with your studies, mind your social life...and everything, and I do mean everything, will be just fine.

Please don't get offended at a headline. Flo cares about wrestling. We need to support them attempting to gain interest, even if it means sensationalizing a match storyline.

They're just as likely to write, "Can anyone stop Bo Nickal?" when while Bo is an absolute hammer, we know he's also human.

In summation: relax, friends.

You can say "relax" and perhaps you're correct.

However, it's painfully obvious that that headline is a hideous misrepresentation of Nick Lee's impressive performance today. Just awful, and borderline irresponsible on Flo's part.

I also learned that Richie Lewis is the 2nd coming for beating a tomato can

whoa whoa whoa stop the clock.....

i read somewhere they dont do that
Of course they don't. It is non click bait 24/7 at Flo.

I am always a bit uncertain about why there is such sensitivity to the accusation.

Headlines by definition are meant to encourage you to take a look at the media source. The guy who can attract readers with a well worded headline is the guy who stays in business.

Flo cares about wrestling.
Flo cares about money. Wrestling is a means to an end, and while the guys (CP and Willie) do care about wrestling, Flo overall sees wrestling as a potential avenue for profit. I guarantee that you and I care more about the health of wrestling on a day-to-day basis than the investors of Flo.

A dangerous game because they are trading in their credibility and if it gets low enough, people will start to ignore even the legitimate headlines. This article tag is sensationalizing a close, rather ho-hum match. Over the past several months they have continuously juggled their recruiting rankings to make sure there was always a high ranked guy uncommitted so they had a future headline when they did commit. Flo content is well worth the money, imo, however their emphasis on clicks does get old.

Ya'll have actually got to be kidding me. If this were an Iowa guy getting a headline that was somewhat negative, none of you would give a shit.

I'm not hanging from their jock, but this is so unnecessary.

clicks make the interwebs go round everyone understands that.

saying we dont do things for clicks is insulting to our sensibilities.

PS- if it was iowa they deserve it;):p:eek:

Which is fine to assert that, but to say something like Flo doesn't have a deep-rooted passion for the sport of wrestling because they make a living out of it just isn't fair.

You can make money from the sport and still have a deep-rooted passion. It's not fair to expect people to invest in our sport and constantly operate in the red. Why? Because then your love and passion is lesser? I think we can all agree that we want to be a major sport with coverage from media outlets to get the athletes in our sport the proper accolades for their accomplishments. That doesn't happen without people investing. If people are going to invest, they need to see a return, or it isn't worth it.

I know that that got ramble-y, and it wasn't directed at you, but it just doesn't seem fair to me that if people see a profit, they're all of a sudden lesser in the eyes of our sport. It's contradictory.
