Colorado has had 56 kids (or so, people have lost count) transfer so far

I don’t think so.. he basically told the team day 1 this would happen.

Article from that day:
‘Sanders' message to returning players went viral in his first meeting with CU, imploring players to "go ahead and jump in that [transfer] portal" as he was bringing players with him to Colorado’

I wouldn’t go that far without knowing more about why they left. It’s just too early.

Right now Boulder worships Deon even though he’s done nothing other than some brash talk. If he starts losing then I could see him lose the team with his antics. They start out at TCU, Nebraska, Colorado St, at Oregon, and USC. He goes 0-5 or 1-4 and the folks in Boulder will go back to ignoring CU football.

I'm not saying Nebraska is winnable, but it's definitely not in the "most likely to lose" category. CSU is still rebuilding and should be a win unless the roster is still weak (he's replaced a lot of players, but no clue on the quality yet).

The other 3, definitely losing, but can he compete? Can they score points?

He gets 7 or 8 wins this year or next, he's getting more money to leave.

Difficult thing for Deon is going to be that if he has multiple kids transfer out, not sure he is going to get enough kids to transfer back in to have 85 kids on schollie. So Deon losing kids is interesting as how well will his schtick play out at a P5 school in the NIL era is yet to be seen.

Deon is smart. Everything that happens in 2023 will be the fault of the previous coach regardless of what Deon does. After that, he simply needs to show progress. And what better way to show progress than to start from dead zero? A) nothing will stick to him this year B) he gets kids he wants and dumps any form of dissension from the previous kids and C) he resets expectations to zero, D) he lengthens the runway to getting a winning team on the field E) he keeps a high-paying job longer.

I've always wondered why coaches didn't do this. It is done in business all the time.

A good friend of mine was the lead supporter for a guy named Smith. Smith's competition for the next CEO was a guy named Jones. My friend completed a job on time and under budget and was honored at an event where he was paid a big bonus and given and award with company-wide recognition. That same day, a week before a merger was announced. The day he won the award, Jones was put in charge of the post-merger reorganization. Jones couldn't lay off Smith so he did the next best thing. My friend was let go the day after winning a company-wide award because he was part of the power structure under Smith. Jones killed Smith's career by getting rid of everyone in his power base. And That's the way it's done.

Nebraska is going to be better under Rhule.

I agree TCU, Oregon, and USC are likely losses. I’d have to think Nebraska would be favored but it’s definitely a closer game. CSU generally doesn’t hold up well against Colorado but it is their rivalry game. 1-4 would not shock me.

I didn’t see enough of their spring game to get a good feel for their team this year. Normally there’s a grace period for a new coach but I wonder how well he can hold his players if he goes 1-4 and starts throwing them under the bus. I’m not sure his antics will hold up well when things start to crumble with the team.

I really don't think Sanders cares at all about them leaving--he'll find guys that want to be there. Probably better guys.

Does this speak more about Sanders and his program or the "portal" and the mess it has created? It could leave some programs totally non-competitive. How do you replace 30-40 players?
By adding 40 players from the portal Does anyone think they won't be able to field a tea

If any program ever deserved the death penalty, it is Colorado. They should be shut down right now.

They will be significantly better this year. Rhule is in a battle for third best coach in the Big Ten right now behind Day and Harbaugh and just ahead of Ferenz with Fickle.

Bettors are saying 5-6. This isn't Big 12 Baylor in a 1 team Oklahoma led conference in a talent rich state (Texas). This is the former Tom Osborne Optiion U, who has struggled to recruit nationally in the Big 10.

Rhule will need to do his best job ever to win 9 games a year.

Sure, if you can get 40 players to come into your program. Not sure every program can.
What program couldn't? I mean, look at the number of kids in the portal. They have to go somewhere. They may not be the kids that school is targeting but everyone can easily field a team.

Does anyone know where Colorado’s roster stands now that 18 players left yesterday? Were they over the 85 limit to begin with?

He hates James. He think hack was the best qb in the country as a freshman even though he was ranked at the bottom of the B10 in passing and never won more than 7 games. James ruined him.
Franklin and Hack were a horrible fit if we're being honest. Hack should have transferred the second O'Brien left. It would have been better for everyone.

Let’s hope, at least initially since Nebraska was 4-8 last year and Colorado 1-11. Long term? Don’t bet on it if Sanders stays.
I think Nebraska has a cake walk to get to 6 and 6 with their schedule and a legit shot at 8 wins. Colorado is in for it. They might have the most difficult schedule in the country.
