Cornell shut down..

Personally, I am not sure anyone can convince me that natural immunity is not the best remedy. But, not everyone is willing to take that chance. Let the people choose and let's move on with life.
Would actual data convince you? Data out of South Africa shows that those who had previous Alpha, Beta, or Delta infections have *near-zero* immunity against Omicron. The same data show that those with infections *and* vaccinations have a significant antibody response to Omicron:

A study over the weekend showed that neutralizing antibodies among people previously infected with Alpha (panel E), Beta (panel F), and Delta (panel G) completely failed to attach to Omicron. Those that were infected + vaccinated (or vaccinated + infected) had a strong response to Omicron (panel H).

Cornell has shut down Ithaca campus due to COVID outbreak.. all finals online and from what I am reading.. all athletics cancelled.. Not sure how that impacts the duals upcoming..?
I don't see where they cancelled all athletics, just home events this past Sunday and Mike Grey responded to a twitter post that they would be at the Collegiate Duals. Of course, that could change by next week.

Hey Goggles, in all seriousness,. Let’s don’t turn ourselves into fighting soldiers, and let’s don’t turn our countrymen into permanent enemies. I hope you and we will use words of war less or not at all on our own countrymen.

My bad, I didn't realize Greta got a green card.

I kid you not. To your point, if the data coming in on Omicron holds (More virulent, mild symptoms, no deaths to low risk population) and is confirmed, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that we see underground Omicron infection parties popping up around the world.

I still remember my chicken pox party. Good times, good times, what a hoot it was. Cake, toys and everything. I now have natural immunity and no fear of the pox.

Did he just write that? What an irresponsible, outrageuos thing to post! I need to go protest or boycot something....

And when we run out of single letter variants it will go to two, then a decade from now we will be toting vaccine passports that make us look like we are all in different fraternities. I was a Sigma Alpha Epsilon, which I hear is going to be a particularly nasty variant when I am in my 90s.

I'll put you down as "I ignore data that goes against my world view." Noted.

Hey Goggles, in all seriousness, I think the terms “woke”, “libtards”, etc., are words of war. They are words to demonize and dehumanize an amorphous, mythical “other side”. We helped our soldiers use words of war in wars, when we wanted soldiers to stop thinking and just fight and kill.

In a successful democracy, we should decide each issue on the merits, and not based on a war footing of having a permanent enemy and needing above all else to defeat them. Let’s don’t turn ourselves into fighting soldiers, and let’s don’t turn our countrymen into permanent enemies. I hope you and we will use words of war less or not at all on our own countrymen.

Isn't there a dumpster fire threat for this BS? Take it there. Lets talk about if Cornell will be wrestling and what the match ups look like.

A solid idea!

Cornell will be there. Wrestlestats predicts Cornell wins at 125 (Arujau), 149 (Yianni), 157 (Yapoujian), and 165 (Ramirez) for a 21-15 PSU win. The only matches that they deem close (three of those above are MDs) are at 197 if Darmstadt goes (8-7) and 285 if Fernandes goes (9-7).

Assumed PSU lineup: Shunk, RBY, Lee, Bartlett, Bearclaw, Edsell, Starocci, Brooks, Dean, Kerk. Any wisdom on whether that is an accurate prediction?

I suppose Hildebrandt has a punchers chance for elligiblity, and Meredith may be in the mix, 157 may have a couple of different guys rotate through. Otherwise pretty close. I'm very happy to finally be dualing Cornell. Seems like a natural rivalry.

edit: also, I think this board would riot if Tony Negron doesn't get a start this weekend.

Wait...who is bringing up wrestling on this covid forum???

Did you ask why the young friend refrained from the vaccination? What was his reason? My condolences to the family, especially the daughter.
The last time I saw him I asked if he had been vaccinated yet, he laughed and replied "HELL NO!!" He was just one of those people who unfortunately got his "news" from sources that profit off of lying.

Given that Cornell is reporting more than 900 covid cases, it would be hard to believe that some of the wrestlers don't have it.

Fwiw, the university has roughly 25,000 students:

University Facts | Cornell University
There are 39 guys on the Cornell roster. Say 1,000 cases out of 26,000 students, suggests that, all things equal, there'd be 1 or 2 on the roster. Given that the wrestlers likely don't go out partying and socializing much beyond their small circle (and most of these positive cases are from those circumstances, according to Cornell: there aren't classroom infections), it's more believable that they don't.

Cornell University is 97% vaccinated.

That's kind of what I was getting to as well. I was double vaxxed in February, got Covid in September, got the booster in November, just got Covid again. Both pretty mild. What's the next step in living because we've reached peak preparedness unless we're waiting on the unattainable eradication.

If Hildebrandt is enrolled, and reasonable shape, he can go.

What? Lol. Like who wants to associate with wrestlers anyway. Effed up ears, Napoleon complexes, always grabbing people and testosterone challenges.
The testosterone challenges in particular provide for great party entertainment. Especially when some overconfident neophyte from the basketball or football team thinks physical stature is a reliable measuring stick.

[Not to say this happens in the Cornish society, specifically, but it is common enough elsewhere to be a thing.]

I know one and he ended up in the hospital for a while last week. It is starting to look like therapeutics are the answer and not vaccines. There is so much we do not know.
Or not.

"Regeneron, which warned earlier this month that its antibody treatment may not be as effective against the new variant, said data confirms it has “diminished potency” against omicron but remains useful against delta."

We know that vaccination (including boosters) has good protection against even Omicron for severe illness.
