would he have allowed one of his assistants to stand on a chair and wave a “Terrible Towel” in celebration during a match? That was a bad look for a program with such history IMO, but maybe I’m just getting old?
After having their teeth kicked in for the past decade, I don’t think there are any lines that can’t be crossed if they win a title.
Well, back in Gable's day, this wasn't needed to fire up the fans.

Which assistant was it?
Just having fun.But a coach on a chair waving a towel in a dual in mid January?
Just having fun.
In Iowa City part of the fun is "hey coach, when ya gonna catch up to Sanderson" or "you know, Gable would have fixed this by now".Getting your hand raised should be enough, although in Iowa City it’s about the “grownups” throwing their wrestlers on ESPN for attention, I shouldn’t be surprised
Looked like Telford? Just wondering how the chair supported him, had to be someone else I suppose
I thought about telling them that but I didn't think it would matterIt wasn’t a towel it was a Sorensen bandanna. They sold a bunch and gave them out for free to the first several thousand people there. This was done for fundraising for Brandon and fan appreciation night. Most of the crowd was either wearing one or waving one through the entire meet
The chair thing looked dangerous, all the rest seems harmless to me. Pin chains, towels, robes, white-outs ... they're all part of the pageantry. Might cause fan engagement, just a little, though in my mind the wrestling itself is where the true excitement comes from. Just doesn't seem to be worth fussing over.
