Ok, based on what everyone has seen up to this point, who wins? And I'm talking strictly about DeSanto as a wrestler, not the subject of a psych evaluation. I think that topic has been covered enough in other threads.

Personally, and I'm saying this as objectively as possible, I think DeSanto made a good choice going to Iowa. I think he has gotten a lot better.

They have had several common opponents and done approximately as well against each one. Both were thrown by Gomez although DeSanto managed to fight out of it. On the other hand, we know that RBY wasn't 100% at the Scuffle.

It's really unfortunate that we don't have Iowa on the schedule this year. There is a chance that we won't get to see these guys compete depending on how the brackets end up at the Big 10 tournament and also the NCAAs. My guess is that a lot of points would be scored.

I think DeSanto made a great choice in going to Iowa. The Brands boys aren't bad coaches, but I think what keeps DeSanto from completely melting down is Spencer.
The trick with DeSanto is to keep him from doing something really stupid until his brain and emotions mature. His behavior(s) will occasionally offend the wrestling community and others, but eventually it will come together for the kid and he will be fine. Getting there will just be a bit more bumpy than most paths traveled.

His decision was definitely a good one. He is vastly improved from last season. No idea who wins but it should be a wildly entertaining match. I for one will sign up to see those two scrap.

If I understand correctly, DeSanto has been diagnosed as being on the Autism spectrum, where individual behaviors can vary widely. (My adult son is mildly autistic, so I'm somewhat familiar with this condition). So he is really not wired quite the same as other individuals; particularly in adolescence, autistic individuals are more prone to outbursts and tantrums.

That being said, his outbursts have to be quickly identified, and dealt with. Absolutely, there should be consequences to his actions. He should not be held to a different standard than other wrestlers, but he does need more attention, consistent discipline, and prompt responses to problem situations.

I'd love to see him known only for his wrestling, and not for the outbursts.

The OP wanted to talk strictly about the wrestling. I think the match is a toss up. RBY is extremely fast and can score points in bunches. DeSanto just never stops moving or coming forward. Also he appears to have improved quite a bit on bottom thanks to his great coaches/teammates. It would be a very entertaining match indeed. Hopefully we see it at at B10's!

Rby wins by four or five .

I think DeSanto is better than RBY right now. He’s stronger and physically more mature. (I have nothing to add to what’s already been said about his mental and emotional maturity.) But RBY has more upside. I don’t think he’ll catch up to DeSanto this season, but I like his chances next year.

Yeah, I get that.

Slight edge to DeSanto at this point IMO. RBY has a higher ceiling, I believe, due to exceptional quickness; more experience and strength for RBY is needed; could be enough to tilt the outcome by year end, or not until next season.

Putting this question differently: who would you rather see RBY face at B10 semis?

Before answering, know that DeSanto is virtually a lock for one of the top 2 seeds -- he's undefeated in conference, has beaten Suriano and Lizak, and will not face Micic, RBY, or Pletcher.

Much rather RBY see Desanto in the semifinals than Micic. With Gross out of the picture, I would have Micic as the slight NCAA favorite right now. Kid is slick, with great defense. I believe I've even seen him fight off a kimura.

He gets to wrestle Spencer and Murin everyday now. RBY is really good and will major him....Things have opened up for him at 133. Think he wins it all now after watching the top 3 loss....Desanto will stall of course and try to keep it close.

No idea, just know it'll be fun, if it happens.

RBY has Parrish, Thornton, Pepple, Micic, Pletcher, Tutolo, and Duncan yet in the Big Ten. Four of those guys are InterMat top-20, and I suspect Micic will still be #1, and Pletcher top-3 when RBY wrestles them.

I'm excited for RBY that he has the opportunity to prove himself, and continue to work on his wrestling "game" during the season. Lot's of challenges ahead, he might not even get to wrestle DeSanto at B1G's.

DeSanto stall? Do elaborate please
You do realize who you are replying to, right Turk? You spend enough time over here to know that. On that note, I see you asking PSU and Rutgers fans why they are posting on HR and not their own boards, yet here you are...again. What gives?

I give the edge this March to Desanto just based on the experience factor and having gone through it all before ...albeit not in the most gracious of ways..

Agreed. Both quick, relentless guys. AD looks stronger but looks mean nothing.....and my be based on being older. Lots of fun on the horizon

I disagree. RBY has been on the big stage for years, Plus he is simply better and will only improve this season. Iowa Coaching does not have wrestlers peek with the exception of a hand full....Ex, Spencer who has even got more defensive this year.

I visit all the boards. I was just asking why they exclusively post on HR. I asked 1 Rutgers fan @BanjoSaysWoof why he posted about Desanto's actions on HR multiple times, but never posted on his own boards match thread about the dual. He gave an honest answer.

I asked 1 PSU fan @slushhead why he started a thread on HR about posting other wrestling results there. I simply asked why he didn't post the same thread here. Nothing malicious, just poking around a bit.

Fair enough but when you have a guy like Spencer Lee saying he still gets nervous before every match, I'm thinking for a lot of kids there ain't nothing that prepares you for wrestling in the NCAA tournament your freshman year.

This is a typo ... right?

Two contrasting styles ... should be interesting.

RBY will need to be a sharp shooter and pick his spots. Similar to Rivera vs Lee. If he lets DeSanto dictate the pace then AD wins.

It will be a great match. I would give Desanto a slight edge, as I'm not confident in his ability on the bottom (which is often an issue for true Freshman, who rarely had to wrestle there in high school and never against kids who ride like D1 kids). I had noticed that he was never choosing bottom in matches, and then he struggled off bottom at the Scuffle. I'm positive he will improve it. I think RBY is ridiculously talented and the sky is the limit. I also see an improved Desanto, who is talented, never gives up and has a relentless pace. It should be a good one, if/when we get to see it.

I vote this as one of the worst takes I've read on this forum. Desanto does not stall, ever. His mind is wired to attack and nothing else. I love RBY but he's not stalling/majoring/dominating Desanto.

It's Real-Spyker. He also knows the forecast better than Accuweather, and PennDOT's ability to plow the roads better than anyone who's ever driven in PA.
