CAEL. Before him it was Gable. Nate Carr was up there too. I have enjoyed watching Nolf more than any wrestler since Cael, and I only enjoyed Cael more because he was a Cyclone.

Were? Wait a year. The Carr’s were without question the greatest family of American wrestlers.
About what I thought. Maybe 7-8 years older.Possibly even a little more than a smidgeon. I was at Munich in 1972 and actually spoke with Gable about 45 minutes before he beat the Russian for the gold medal. That was after a few years in college, so it should give you an idea of my chronology.
I won’t dispute it till we see it. But I think young David could be special. He nearly beat Frank last month.Second generation wont hold a candle.

No family was greater than the Carrs. Downey Family. The Carr’s were without question the greatest family of American wrestlers.
After reading this story, everyone's favorite should be Abe. This is one of the greatest wrestling stories I have ever read. Thanks Reslo!!When I first moved from Wales to the good ol' USA in 1993, some of my new American friends had implored me to join the wrestling team because of my absolute disdain for basketball. Begrudgingly, I accepted their invitation to go to some place called Rec Hall to work out. I had no idea what I was in for...
I had never seen a wrestling match, and was only vaguely familiar with the sport at all (rugby sevens and football are the biggest sport in Wales). I had no skill, but I was willing to learn and after several practices at the high school gym, I felt ready to join the team at Rec hall for a Sunday workout.
I could not have been more incorrect. I got busted up almost immediately, and had no intention of going much further with this wrestling idea.
As I was contemplating what I had gotten myself into, a small Japanese man put his arm around me and he said "you can't quit, you haven't even started yet." He said that with such conviction that, even though I didn't know this guy at all, I knew I couldn't let this man down. I was determined to finish the practice...and I did! And I was damn proud to hang in there.
I was never a good wrestler, but I kept going to practices at Rec Hall with our team, always seeking out that same man for my workout partner. He could have said 'no' to the skinny Welsh kid, but he always took time out of his workout to show me moves and techniques.
For that reason, Sunny Abe will always be my favorite wrestler.
Second generation wont hold a candle.
First I love when you post , always makes me feel young.Possibly even a little more than a smidgeon. curious, why no DT?I will stick to individuals I have seen wrestle on live television or in person.
From the Lorenzo/Fritz era:
Kerry McCoy, Sanshiro Abe, Cary Kolat, Glenn Pritzlaff (He stole my Turkey Hill ice tea at camp)
From the Troy Sunderland era:
Pat Cummins, Aaron Anspach, Phil Davis
Under Cael:
Ed Ruth, Zain Retherford, Jason Nolf
Outside of PSU:
Cael, Greg Jones, Lincoln Mcilravy, Stephen Neal, Jon Trenge
King Kong Bundy aka Chris Paillies (sp), went to the NJ high school state tournament but did not place. I think Bam Bam Bigelow out of Neptune took fourth. Year was around '73 or '74, maybe '75. Same era as Bruce Baumgartner who was in NJ state tournament during those years.King Kong Bundy (R.I.P.).
Dennis Sciabica - I, like Sciabica, was a master of the Figure 4 and Crab Ride. I remember he tied Mike Frick which was instrumental in PSU tying Lehigh in 1975 (I believe).
Like AgSurfer, I remember him well too. We were at PSU during the same years. Untimely passing in 2008, rip.Dennis Sciabica - I, like Sciabica, was a master of the Figure 4 and Crab Ride. I remember he tied Mike Frick which was instrumental in PSU tying Lehigh in 1975 (I believe).

Jim Martin, for introducing me to “The PSU” brand of wrestling.
Kolat, for taking dominance to new heights.
McIlravy, I was kind of scared of him but he was a great talent.
McCoy, for his attitude and how he made the weight class look slow and without skill.
Cael
Then, you know, the gang. Picking one seems like picking a favorite child or single malt or something.
I enjoyed DT, but I enjoyed Ed more. As you can see, I'm a little bias to the District 3 guyscurious, why no DT?
Know a Tom Fornicola locally, but don't recall John, and don't remember the name Terry Schultz. See they're both from Bellefonte originally, and it appears we have some common friends. As information, graduated '78 in engineering too, the IE variety.I wonder if we know each other. I was at Penn State at the same time. I had attended Elizabethtown college for a few years, and after a break, I transferred to Penn State to get my engineering degree. Do you remember John Fornicola or Terry Schultz? They were my friends and workout partners.

I loved Nolfs interview when he defended Berger. After winning his third titlePSU Jason Nolf
Wrestler I saw in high school, Chris Taylor. I remember him just laying on a guy and the guy puked because he couldn't breath. Being a little kid that was cool.
