Maybe Colin should have come back for his last season if DEs keep getting hurt?!

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere else.

Meniscus is usually treated by arthroscopic surgery if I’m not mistaken. Luckily it wasn’t the anterior.

Who is Colin?

DE is probably the deepest position on the team. With Miller, Brown, Buchholz and Gross-Matos we have as solid and experienced of a 2 deep as we have had in many years. I believe G-W will be ahead of both Simmons and Toney, but that remains to be seen. Simmons was starting to make more plays as last season went along and he also may be competing for additional snaps. And we know that Toney is a force as a pass rusher, but I just don't see him becoming an every down DE as he still looks like a LB height and weight wise. So Joseph would likely have been the the 7th DE in the rotation. Sure, Buchholz may slide inside in passing situations allowing more DE's on the field. But Givens may also slide outside if the need arises as well, as DT depth develops from among the young talent CJF has assembled at DT. So if Costagna could not get on the field last year, how would he do so in 2018 when all the young talent has continued to develop, Brown is back from his season ending injury, and we have another 4 star true freshman in Oweh that will also be trying to convince CJF that he belongs in the rotation? Unless there are injuries, or Joseph takes a dramatic step forward, Joseph will likely again find playing time hard to come by.

I had mine done last year. It was arthroscopic. I was pretty much fully recovered after six weeks, but even a full year later there are certain weight bearing motions that will cause me some pain.
Granted, I'm a tad older than him :)

Depending on the severity, they may do a repair, versus trim. Either way, he should be ready day one of Summer camp.
Would definitely think they would do a repair on a young athlete if possible. If repaired the recovery is much longer as you need to keep the leg/knee immobilized as the meniscus heals.(stitched)
For us older folks, they remove the damaged part and that’s why it’s a quicker recovery. I was on an elliptical 10 days after a medial and lateral meniscus trim.

Depending on the anatomy of the injury, he's young enough that they should do a repair if possible. It's a longer recovery, but better for him in the long run. And even the "longer" recovery is only 3 months.

Once you get over 25 or so, there's no point to doing the repair. He's still young enough.
