True, you don't know. Any 1 star can be the best player in college football and any 5 star can be a complete bust and never see the field. That's undeniable. The argument comes when folks say the stars carry zero predictive value. On average, the odds of a higher star player being better are greater.
 
No argument there. However, when looking at a class, the reflex response is to assume that your best recruits are the ones with 4 and 5 stars, and that is just not the case.

For football, I always tend to value offer lists over stars. Usually they go hand-in-hand, but not always, and when I see a 3 star w/ offers from OSU/Bama, etc, I consider them the same as the 4 and 5 stars.
