Game Thread, PSU - Minnesota

Fact. I'll go a step further. He gone. 3-9 is a bad look even given those crippling sanctions PSU isn't even under.

Oh, so the effects instantly ended when the NCAA cleared PSU and withdrew the sanctions?

Please keep dazzling us with your intelligence.

You can't run the offense fast if your defense is having trouble stopping them. Obviously it would wear the defense down, you think it's bad now??? See what happens if they go 3 and out in 30 seconds...

But we've never seen it, even in the first game of the season.

I like to think that they were aware the defense was going to be so so from the start of the season. The de-line was a question mark from the start. Idk tho, I'm obviously not a coach that sees everything in practice.

Without a serviceable o-line we need to run tempo out of a traditional set with a fullback, even if involves a TE lining up as fb. This is too painful to watch.

Switching to Ryder Cup at halftime.
May return to the game once afternoon matches are complete.
Far less frustration.

Right or wrong, the pressure will be on Franklin if PSU loses this week. Franklin's decision making has been exceedingly suspect.

The lack of running game is killing the offense, as it has for several years. Frusterating to watch for sure.

MN is an average team. They have a decent running game and make routine plays in the passing game. Plus they have not made mistakes. But by no means are they a very good team (which makes PSU a fairly bad team).

Great programs recover from sanctions. Not all become instant top 5 teams but I'd say USC, OSU, Miami, etc aren't still whining about them. If you only get 55 scholarship players, make sure they're good ones. If you get 85, make sure they're good ones. The excuses are hilarious.

PSU has become Indiana.

You can't possibly tell me that any of their sanctions were even close to ours. You are an idiot. And I am also sure someone who hasn't watched much football in their life.

Injuries have killed the defense....no playmakers. The offense looks dreadful too. Geez....McSorley missing bad on the deep ball.

Penn State has better players up and down it's roster than mInnesota

--Chuck Long---before the game

Get Cam Brown off the field immediately

And replace him with...? There are now five starters out on D and the "starter" we got back at middle line backer is a walk-on. This is still going to take a year or two. Young players need to mature physically and mentally. What should be the veterans and leaders of this team were classes recruited in 2012 and 2013 - right in the middle of the sanctions. I know some people thing that shouldn't have any bearing on how good the team is, but that attitude's not very realistic. Hell, on the O-line both guards are freshman.

If it requires a really good defense, I'd argue you might not want to make it an integral part of your offense, which all the stories during the summer made it seem.

That's because those schools deserved the sanctions, PSU did not. Big difference.

Go for it on 4th down and give Minny good field position. Kick FG on 4th and 1 at the goal line. Most passes go 50 yards downfield, few over the middle. No swing passes or screens to Barkley. None to tall TEs or WRs once in the red zone. Call TO on last possession to give Gopher more than 2 minutes to score.

Blame the sanctions?

Really like to see Stevens with meaningful snaps in the 2nd half. Trace really struggles throwing the deep ball. Always seems to be way off target over the wrong shoulder. He is not close on any of those long throws today.

He also has a slow release. His strong suit was suppose to be short to intermediate accuracy. Why is he chucking the ball downfield?

Forgive me but does anyone notice the horrendous tackling?

W T F?

I haven't played in over 35 years and I can recall tackling technique IN MY SLEEP! I don't see any DB on either side using the technique that I was taught. Am I missing something? Has the game changed that much? Are they teaching kids to grab around the head and shoulders?

JEEBUS!

Lot of "reaching" from the side and complete failure to come into the tackle "square" - i.e., bad attack angles. Golden was PSU's best open field tackler - hit square and wrapped up, now he's hurt too, the injury situation is unprecedented.

Agreed. Tackling is sub-par. You'd think the coaches could at least get that squared away.

Where is the offense that played in the second half vs Pitt? That was a good offense. That's why there is still hope

In a National election year, Franklin should take a hint. Bring in Tommy Stevens and start a QB controversy. It will deflect from all of the other crimes!
