Go for it on 4th down and give Minny good field position. Kick FG on 4th and 1 at the goal line. Most passes go 50 yards downfield, few over the middle. No swing passes or screens to Barkley. None to tall TEs or WRs once in the red zone. Call TO on last possession to give Gopher more than 2 minutes to score.

Blame the sanctions?

Sanctions certainly have had their affects on team play........but you're correct that with every passing week there are also more and more coaching questions as well.

For all the posters criticizing the ones that are currently down on this team is there any single aspect that you can point to as a legitimate positive that gives hope towards the future that is not merely wishful thinking or using sanctions and injuries as excuses?

I haven't played in over 35 years and I can recall tackling technique IN MY SLEEP! I don't see any DB on either side using the technique that I was taught. Am I missing something? Has the game changed that much? Are they teaching kids to grab around the head and shoulders?

Yea tackling is a problem for many more teams from high school to the NFL these days. They just don't practice those fundamentals as much as they used to. Overly concerned about player safety and it clearly shows.

Lot of "reaching" from the side and complete failure to come into the tackle "square" - i.e., bad attack angles. Golden was PSU's best open field tackler - hit square and wrapped up, now he's hurt too, the injury situation is unprecedented.

Yep, and check out his age and experience in the program. Wish we had a team full of them...

it was obvious since day 1 hackenberg would be here until his junior year, and then head off - and we had no serious QB waiting, so a top talent could step in and play from day 1. Yet Trace Mcsorely is the best we could do. Amazing.
