Hamler to NFL

Kiper has him at #10 among WRs right now.

9 went in the first two rounds, and the 10/11 WRs went quickly im R3 last year.

#10 gets him near the end of R3 in '18.

Much like Sanders, what can he do to upgrade his status?

Really our only consistent offensive threat this year. Probably won us 1-2 games, that we would have otherwise lost.

He made the right choice. His NFL career is not going to be long and an injury could end it before it begins. It’s kind of a simple decision. Leave this year and get a few hundred thousand per year for a few years, or leave next year and get the same thing, but risk an injury.

Kid had to go. He isn’t getting bigger and one hit and his career could be over. A major knee injury ruins any shot Hamler has in the pros. He will alway be one of my favorite players because he is a great kid who gave everything to the program and represents our university with class. Hope someone like the Patriots or Saints draft him in the second or third round and that he has a long and successful NFL career.
Hell no the Patriots should not draft him.

The reality for Hammier is that his draft stock really is going to come down to his 40 speed.

At 5'9" / 170lbs, size will definitely be the question. This is where his 40 time will be huge for him. IF he can crank out a blistering 40. Say he can crank out a high 4.2, like say a 4.29, then NFL teams will forget the film and forget the size and he'll move up into high 2nd round. Something insane like a 4.29, and NFL teams will think they can game-plan to get that speed in space.

On the flip. If his speed is just "average". Say a 4.4, then NFL teams will see a very small guy with just average fast speed, who's average speed will not be good enough to game-plan. And he'd slip.

So IMO, Hamler could go 2nd or 4th, and it all probably depends on a few hundredths of seconds when he does his 40.

ESPN ticker says that Hamler is the #10 WR in the draft right now, that can change with combine and ind. workouts. Loaded WR class, 3rd round or later seems like a good guesstimate. Only take 1 team to love him to go higher.

Can't blame him for going, he is going to get taller at PSU and injuries can always happen. Loved him while we had him.

Exactly, hope Hamler gets paid and does great , but not sure how he is a better prospect than say DaSean Hamilton coming out who went in the 4th? KJ is quicker but not a better Wr and is smaller
Love the kid...but he drops a lot of catchable balls and is small...but for that reason, can’t blame him for leaving. His body will only take so much punishment before he has to call it a career.

Personally I will miss most his punt receiving skills, he had GREAT hands. I never worried, a relief from the many prior years.

Receiving, his hands were good, not great.

Go get paid. I will always remember his key 3rd down against Michigan where he sacrificed his body for that key first down to put the game away - after torching that loud mouth safety the rest of the game

He’s been an all time favorite of mine from when he burst onto the scene in his first game against App State.

I would take him on the Eagles.

I also believe Clifford intentionally targeted a few different receivers in the Bowl because he knew Hamler was gone.

I have really loved watching KJ. It's been an honor and a joy watching his spirit, leadership and flat-out game breaking talent. I wish him all the best.
That said, his size could definitely be a problem in the NFL. He came close to being injured seriously a few times already and I'm afraid it will only get worse where the guys are bigger and faster.
I'll be pulling for ya, KJ!

as LaJolla Lion mentioned ... the nfl will figure out how to get KJ in space and better utilize his talents. He may not be drafted high but will have a better than average nfl career.

Not so much his 40 as with his shuttle and cone drills. If they are as quick as it seems, that will offset slightly slower 40

I think another year with a new OC could have raised his draft status. Fear is always going to be that one career ending hit or injury.

I think he’s making a mistake. Outside of PSU, I still don’t think he’s very well known. His size is an issue, but if he got known like Tavon Austin did, it would be less of a problem. I could see his career fizzling out before it gets started.

No offense but you couldn’t be more wrong. Draft analysts are drooling over his potential. He’s being pegged anywhere from 25-50. A strong performance at the combine and he could slide into the late 1st. There is nothing he’s going to improve with another year. His game is speed.

Well, just today I looked at 10 different mock drafts and not a single one had him in the first round, so I’m not sure where he’s being pegged from 25-50.

Go to the one on CBS sports. He is picked at number 29 to the.... Patriots.

I hope it works out for him, but I honestly think he's making a bad decision.

Dear dummies,

A 5’9 170lb receiver who was injured and didn’t run a 40 was the #1 WR off the board last year.
Hamler can be every bit the WR DeSean Jackson has been. They are similar builds and skill sets. DJax is an all timer, but he should be the NFL comp for Hamler.

Duh as far as early entrants go this is a no-brainer (pardon the pun). No way another concussion comes in college folks. I mean really? Some of you want to keep a kid at an intolerable risk because he makes plays?? Shame, shame.

When all is said and done (combine, interviews etc) I’ll be shocked if he isn’t taken by mid rd 2. Too good a player, too good a kid. Special teams added bonus. Only reason he’s not projected higher would be because this is deepest pool of WRs in a draft class, perhaps ever. He’s Marquis Brown level, who was take late first last year without a return game and no injury coming in. He’ll fit in perfectly to a good team like the Saints or Eagles, Patriots Packers etc at the end of round 1. He’ll ball the F out in the NFL.

With his ACL and concussion history, who the hell could blame him. He’ll be missed and his presence could cost us a chance at the playoffs, that sucks. But not his problem.

I remember being laughed at on here when I said he’s the next Desean Jackson and others said “look at his HS competition” by the recruiting “experts”. Kid was the truth and will set a great example for PSU in the pros just like A-Rob,Godwin Miles Quon and countless others.
