Hamler to NFL

When all is said and done (combine, interviews etc) I’ll be shocked if he isn’t taken by mid rd 2. Too good a player, too good a kid. Special teams added bonus. Only reason he’s not projected higher would be because this is deepest pool of WRs in a draft class, perhaps ever. He’s Marquis Brown level, who was take late first last year without a return game and no injury coming in. He’ll fit in perfectly to a good team like the Saints or Eagles, Patriots Packers etc at the end of round 1. He’ll ball the F out in the NFL.

With his ACL and concussion history, who the hell could blame him. He’ll be missed and his presence could cost us a chance at the playoffs, that sucks. But not his problem.

I remember being laughed at on here when I said he’s the next Desean Jackson and others said “look at his HS competition” by the recruiting “experts”. Kid was the truth and will set a great example for PSU in the pros just like A-Rob,Godwin Miles Quon and countless others.
Lol. Love KJ but is not a Marquise Brown. Brown has great hands and is a crisp route runner. Hamlet drops a ton of passes and isn’t a great route runner.

KJ was a great PSU player, but I'd take Hamilton or ARob over him most days of the week. His numbers were not impressive in bigger games where it mattered. I think given his small size alone, he had to leave (due to risk of injury). I don't think he's durable enough for NFL. I wish him the best. I think this will help us become more than a one trick pony on O.

Not so much his 40 as with his shuttle and cone drills. If they are as quick as it seems, that will offset slightly slower 40

Yes. My point was that all of this pre-draft speculation is useless on Hamler. His draft position will be determined by his "speed" drills in Indy. The '40', the shuttle & cone drills.... Over the next 3 months Hamler can not do much about 5'9" / 170. He may be able to pack on 5lbs of muscle, but realistically is there much difference between 170 and 175??? He'll still be considered "short" and "slightly built". For him, it's all going to come down to those speed drills. If the speed drills are in the "special" category.... Not just in the "fast" category because there will be plenty of "fast" results. Then NFL teams will be willing to look past the small/slight frame because they will be seeing a weapon they can gameplay with and get into space. But if the speed drills are NOT "special" and they are just "fast" along with about 20 other "fast" receivers at Indy, then the NFL teams will not look past the small/slight frame and he'll drop. They will also become overly critical of his hands and see that he does catch a lot in his body (and not with hands) and has dropped many balls. .......... If I'm his agent I am doing nothing but working on those speed drills for the next 3 months.

I thought same thing. In a weird way, this may actually help Clifford. I thought too many times last year Clifford tended to lock onto Hamler. This will force Clifford to look at more targets, and might actually help the overall passing attack.

One can only hope, but all the posters shouting "2020 is our year!" probably need to manage their expectations better given the reality of our WR room. Seems we're back to wishing and hoping. You get to the CFP with proven and seasoned wide outs, not freshman or redshirt freshmen. Ask Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs about that this year - excellent offensive line, stellar running game, and great QB, but no one to throw the ball to. Had a super 2019 WR recruiting class, lost seasoned WR talent to the league, and the new folks were not good enough to fill the gap.

The fact that Daniel George is still finding his way, Justin Shorter looks like a big recruiting miss, and we don't know if Jahan Dotson can be more than he is - is a problem. Let's hope (there's that word again) Cam Sullivan-Brown gets healthy / doesn't portal, D. George can find his true potential, and John Dunmore or one of the new 2020 new guys can surprise. The CFP run looks more like a 2021 reality to me given these WR room question marks.

I totally agree. Last week I started a post about going the Transfer Portal route to add a few proven WRs. IMO, the WR position is a glaring weakness to what could be a pre-season top 10 team. I hate the idea of having a top 10 roster everywhere except WR. If it were me, I'd be taking every measure necassary to be adding talent to that room. Right now, I'm sure there are rising Seniors at the MAC schools, and some G5 schools who might really like the chance to prove themselves up at the Power 5 level with a top 10 team.

His body definitely could use two more years of maturity & growth.

Not ready IMO.
He’s 5’9 175. Is he going to get bigger in two years?
Chase Young hasn’t declared yet either and every mock draft in the world has him going second.
because it’s obvious he’s going. Hamler will show up more now that he’s declared, promise

How many concussions has Hamler had?

How many concussions has Hamler had?
No one here could answer that. But, consider he's had his "bell rung" several times this season alone.
  • TD at Iowa, landed on his head.
  • The next week the helmet to helmet hit securing the UM game.
  • Landed on his head returning a kick against Indiana.
Those are the big ones just off the top off my head.

If I'm not mistaken Hamler continued playing in all those games (maybe not UM since game was basically over), so he couldn't have had concussions.

He didn't return after the 1st quarter KO return against Indiana. That's why there was so much doubt if he would be cleared to play the next week in Columbus.

And being a small guy, you always hold your breath when he takes a big hit.

Knowing that -- and given his past knee injuries -- you've got to strike while the iron is hot and get paid while you can. The last thing anybody would want to see is KJ come back and get hurt, only to jeopardize his NFL hopes. Gotta go now.
exactly- no reason for him to come back for another year when the added year won't make him bigger, which is the only concern an NFL team could possibly have about him

Won’t make him taller but would definitely make him bigger.
The kid already missed his senior season in high school and worked like Hell to get back to where he is now. Another injury to that knee could be it for him. Why chance it?

Hamler was better then AB?? That’s hilarious.

AB is an asshole, but how many passes do you see him drop?
Out of college, better prospect. What round did AB go in? I’m talkjng the player as a prospect, not what they’ve done 10 years in career. Get it?

Maybe cause he played at a school with little exposure. I mean look at his college stats lol. They double KJ’s. He was also a immediate NFL stud.

Happy to see the BWI tradition of immensely underrating our own players when it comes to their draft stock continue with such fervor.

#10 WR in the draft is Hamler’s floor once we get into testing season, and it was a no-brainer to leave - I’d bet the only reason why he was even considering staying is his relationship with Clifford.

As a fan I hate to see him go but I believe it is for the best. He has taken a lot of big shots. Hopefully, he can limit those going forward and put together a long career.
