Any chance Ironbird starts talking politics today so he gets a few day ban?
His version of the patented Iowa duck..
He gets a ban and then he won't have to face anyone here for a few days??
He will disappear on his own like he did after Superman Lee got decked.

If GIA cared they would have contacted missing persons, as it was, I think they enjoyed his absence.

1. Posting the same stupidity bolded doesn’t make it less stupid. In fact, it may make it more.

2. Spencer believed he could win a second title with no ACLs until he saw that Suriano was back at 125 and out of the wrestling black hole that is Rutgers, and he knew he had no chance, so he ducked him and used surgery as the excuse.
Let’s take a poll. Who agrees that Spencer had surgery to avoid Suriano? I’m genuinely interested if this board really believes that.

You can have a poll. Personally I cannot read minds so I don't know what his true motivation was.

It is interesting though he did not take of the year prior to get his knees fixed.

Why do you think he didn't get his knees fixed prior?

I have no idea but it’s hard for me to believe he specifically decided to do it to avoid Suriano.

LOL, I kinda doubt the next suspension would be "a few days".

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I believe Spencer ducked once he heard Suriano was coming for him. I think Lee knew he was gonna have a tough road and would probably take a few losses from Nick, so it was at that point that he purposely chose to have his surgery done. Plus, we've recently seen that Lee has a history of cashing in his chips early and running for the hills.

I recall that Spencer was originally going to wrestle the year that he had surgery and he wrestled a few matches in the first half of the season. If I recall correctly, although he didn't lose, his performance was not what you would expect from Spencer Lee. I believe he made a determination based upon the increased competition at 125 in that year (which Suriano was certainly a big part of), he was at serious risk of not winning the National Championship in his current condition so he decided to opt for surgery. I do not think he was specifically avoiding Suriano but Suriano's presence certainly influenced his calculations on the likelihood of winning and influenced his decision. Obviously hind sight being 20/20, he should have had the surgury immediately after winning his third NCAA Championship.

I just feel it’s pretty brutal to hate on a kid for deciding when to have double ACL surgery and claim he is ducking. That would be like me saying Van Ness decided to have surgery because Lovett and Gomez are back this year. I know it’s not apples to apples since we knew about Spencer’s injury prior. I just know I would never accuse someone of something that over the top without knowing the absolute truth. No matter what school they attended.

Suriano was clearly the biggest fish in the pond, but yeah, Glory and Vito were back from the Ivies’ self-imposed exile, too. That was clearly more than Spencer could handle. The next year, Suriano was gone and Vito at 133, so he thought he’d be able to eke it out against just Glory, but then ended up counting lights against Ramos anyway.

Spencer also had just said in the national spotlight that excuses are for wusses about injuries. SVN never did anything like that.

You’re entitled to your opinion but you seem to be stating it as fact.

Man, you really hang on to the words of young men going through something tough and hammer on them. Are you mad Spencer went to Iowa? Where does this desire to push Spencer down come from? I honestly want to know.

Um, this is Ironturd’s troll thread. And, no, I’d prefer if Suriano has stayed and prevented Spencer from winning even once, but he chose to go to the Rutgers black hole of wrestling instead.

You didn’t answer the question. Why? Also you know for a fact that Spencer would have not ever beat Suriano if Nick stayed at Penn St? That’s amazing.

I don't think he ducked. Honestly, I think he has a warrior's heart and gave it his all right up until he couldnt. Having a warrior's heart means he wants to wrestle the best. He wants to measure his mettle against that of his opponents.

Where I part ways with SL is when he decided to not toe the line after getting decked and having his father make up excuses for him. In my opinion, that is where Spencer's legacy now lies. Not the fact that he lost, but that he didn't have the mettle to get up off the mat and toe the line one more time.

That's the difference between a warrior and a champion. You don't have to win it all to be a champion. James English is more of a champion in my mind than Spencer Lee will ever be.

I can’t argue with that. No matter the pain and anguish you are feeling, you have to walk the walk and pick yourself up and keep going.

Sucker bet if you are including the women, as PSU does not have a women's team yet.

Now if you're just including the Men's teams I am in.

NOT a chance stroker!!!!
He likes to talk, but, he does NOT like to do anything where the bet is even on both sides. I had to give him 20 points to get him to bet on tonight's dual meet.
^^^ This is "par for the course" around here! I believe if you asked 1000 people at random who follow wrestling. They would agree that that is a fair number. Once more, I did not hold a water pistol to your head!!!!

Several things have to play out in my favor, or in your favor with very little margin of era either way!

I do not think this is a terrible post!!! This is a post that BRINGS SOMETHING to the GREATEST thread here on the 2nd string board!!!!

You can certainly point fingers IF you do NOT understand the situation!!! RISK vs REWARD, what are the risks, what is the reward. So IF it was not a situation such as the NCAAs, and/or there was an option available to sit it out, the decision would be very easy.

It is NOT worth the risk!!!

Being WHAT IT WAS, which is SR. year, chance to WIN 4th!!! The decision was made to TAKE THE RISKS!!!

SUPERMAN was having "issues" with injuries lets put it that way. "Lets try and make it to the finish line" was the call. Taking a chance to further injure himself after losing was NO LONGER worth the risks! A plan was in place to shut him down depending on several different situations that could have taken place.

What were your thoughts on this post from GIA:

"Tale of the tape:
Gable (21 seasons): Avg NCAA pts/yr: 120.8. Avg NCAA placement/yr: 1.57. Avg champs/yr: 2.1
Zalesky (9 seasons): Avg NCAA pts/yr: 91.3. Avg NCAA placement/yr: 3.33. Avg champs/yr: 1.1
Brands (16 seasons): Avg NCAA pts/yr: 92.0. Avg NCAA placement/yr: 3.19. Avg champs/yr: 0.8
Zalesky won 4 team titles in 9 seasons. Brands has won 4 team titles in 16.
Zalesky coached 8 individuals to 10 NCAA titles in 9 seasons. Brands has coached 8 individuals to 13 titles in 16 seasons.
Brands is very good at being in the top 4, but less good at winning team titles or developing individual champs."

Is Brands the new Zalesky?

And: Would you support bringing in David Taylor over Tom Brands as head coach at Iowa?

If Brands won more often I'd say you could start putting his name in the ranks of Zalesky, but until that happens Zalesky would appreciate you keeping Brands name out of your mouth.

GLAD to see you going to the TOP BOARD!!! I certainly believe TnT can do better! My main knock, and it is nOT ONLY them but ALL other coaches also is. They have not figure out how to keep up with the great Krailure yet????

TnT have done by far the best, but what was holding them back, as well as the others were RULES, $$$$$, COMPLIANCE Dept.... Happy land is HAPPY to overlook these things and the flood gates were open. Now with NIL, we begin to see some light, but the obvious damage has been done and there is much ground to make up.

If you look at what Happy land currently has on the roster, and what is coming in with this next class. It is somewhat crazy!!! So not only do TnT and all others have to get to another level, they also have to jump yet another level too!!!!

As far as COACHING, for IOWA to BEAT psu TWOOOOO years in a row, and also take them out in B1Gs and duals with FAR less recruits. CLEARLY shows how much better their REAL coaching skills are!!! That being said, would LOVE to have TAYLOR, NOLF, RUTH, etc.... come in, but NOT as head coaches unless running HWC!!!!

agree, can't think someone with a natty champ attitude thinking someone else can beat him. More along the lines that "I'm not myself".

Listen, I agree that the 20 point spread is in play, but, I never know which version of you I'm talking to. Am I talking to the reasonable guy who knows this is a great bet we have going at probably a perfect spread. Or, am I talking to the schtick guy who is posting here 99% of the time. In all fairness, I think our bet could go either way. Good luck.
