Howard/SVN to Purple Raider Open?

That would be a great sign for both of them.
Truth be told, I was more concerned about SVN, with that gigantic knee brace we saw him wearing the last time he wrestled.

If his Instagram page is any indicator, Howard is very much healthy, and has been for a while now.

Also of note: Berge at 157. Beard, Facundo, Manville, Dunbar, J. + M. Lee going, too.

Obviously these are all provisional and nothing is for certain until every steps foot on the mat, but good to see that people appear to be entered.

Yeah, now that I look at the list in greater depth, it's basically everyone who is not going to Rutgers.

A hint for this weekend: Brandon Meredith is registered at Purple Raider; does that mean RBY and/or Nick are healthy/cleared hot?

29 Penn Staters on the list. That's a big number, impossible all will go. Still, good to see some of the wrestlers we don't normally discuss getting a shot to show their skill, learn and improve.

EDIT: Trying to find out what's going on. See E-J's post below for reasons this can't be true.

I'd view this as a potential attendee list derived from the WrestleStat rosters. A few reasons to be skeptical:

1. The total list from all schools is impossibly large
2. I counted 27 PSU wrestlers -- everyone except the starters. That would be a first.
3. Berge listed at 157 -- has he certified weight yet?
4. Beard listed at 197 -- has he seen a doctor about his F&M injury yet?
5. Echemendia listed for Ohio State, even though he's very publicly off the team

Would be great to see them on an official registration list.

I used my friend google and came up with these three. Which one applies?
Hint: If you see an “F”, its not for “Fun”.

Hope to see Dunbar, he has lots of unrealized potential IMO, could be a Conway/Rasheed recruit that is a big contributor after a few years in the room. Like Roar and EJ pointed out, these brackets are huge so I'm tempering my expectations of who and how many of our guys attend.

Way to dash our hopes against the Cliff of Despair!

Actual count will be more in the 5-6 range, with Vespa, Campbell, Borden, Higgins, and Smith as possible/likely for now.

Not to dispute anything in here, but more of a general question...

Do guys have to be certified at a weight to wrestle in these kinds open tournaments?

A wrestler MUST go through the certification process before wrestling in any competition. He can wrestle in an open tournament then, but it isn't necessarily at his lowest certified weight class. He could be in descent and may wrestle at a higher weight class.

I read this at the top, "These are only projected participants." so I agree probably just a potential list derived by Wrestlestat that doesn't include known starters.

The tournament is this Sunday at Mount Union College in Alliance, OH. (I didn't see this info any where in the thread.)

Isn't there supposed to be a decent snow storm Sunday/Monday. If so I could see many bail on this

Well, they do have Echemendia listed going for tOSU and he is not even on their roster anymore.
The list is very old. At 165 Saint Mary has some Hispanic gentleman named Jesus. I think he took a redshirt or 3 .....came in with Kemerer :)

Track shows a single wrestler entered from Bucktail High School. I don't know my District 4 landscape the way I used to, but does Bucktail really have a wrestler who needs to go to a college tournament to find adequate competition?

That would be interesting, considering he's the 7 seed at Escape the Rock where his entire team is going.
Well, his school district had something to say about that so I wouldn't be surprised.

64 teams from 10 states and we had only one pull because the district went virtual because of Omicron. Central Mountain - who'd a thunk it!
