I know there are a few guys on here who follow Iowa State. They seem like an interesting "B" team to follow when not cheering for PSU or against the usual suspects.

Can anyone highlight/handicap what would be a good tourney for ISU, who to look out for, key matchups, etc?

thanks.

25 points (10-15 likely) would be a very good tournament at this point. 2 AA would make me happy and 3 AA would have me jumping for joy. We are a top 20 team right now, but probably not yet a top 15 team. I expect to be a top 10 type team within 2 years if current recruits pan out as expected.
125- hard worker but 1-2 would be a good effort.
133- tough kid but amazing weight. low AA
141- 2-2 would be solid
149- Hard for some guys to deal with his size. round of 12 last year
157- another hard worker. Huge improvement this year. 1-2
165- No NQ
174- My biggest downer
184- big improvement. Potential low AA
197- Team leader. Hope for top 4.
285- 1-2 is my guess.

Jump on the band wagon we welcome fans! You won't quite get the rush I have enjoyed from the PSU studs, but you will enjoy David Carr:)

I went thru the brackets and came up with similar conclusions as JPW3 -- 25 pts is about right.

125 - 2-2, 1.5 pts.
133 - 2-2, 1.5 pts. Could go a little further, but rough draw. Phillippi in Round 2. Lose that, and he'll have to beat Terao, Bridges, and the RBY-DeSanto loser. Those are all matches to watch.
141 - 1-2, 0.5 pts. Terrible draw, if he doesn't beat Red in the opener, he'll get Brock in his 2nd consi match.
149 - 3-3, 8th place, 5.5 pts. Favorable draw until he gets into the medal rounds.
157 - 1-2, 0.5 pts.
165 - DNQ.
174 - 2-2, 1.0 pts.
184 - 2-2, 1.5 pts. Hardest one to pick because he gets Reenan in Round 2, and Reenan doesn't look like himself (but will he with an extra 10 days to rest?). If he loses to Reenan, he'll get Ness in the next consi match. Win that and he gets DePrez or Caffey.
197 - 5-2, 4th place, 12.5 pts. Miklus has a tremendous draw, especially in consis if he loses to Weigel in the quarters. I'd expect him to rematch with Weigel in the 3rd place match.
HWT - 1-2, 0.5 pts. Awful draw, start with Hillger, beat Gunning, then get Stencel or Thomas.

IMO 25 pts can be eclipsed because maybe Gomez goes a little further, and definitely Gomez and Miklus get some bonus.

Using last year as a guide: 25 pts would be 22nd place -- but with some bonus or a break here or there, 28 pts would be good for 17th place.

We are a much better dual team than tournament team as we have solid guys at pretty much every weight. We lack star power in a big way. I doubt there are more than 10-12 better dual teams, but it wouldn't be shocking if there were 25 better tournament teams. I am proud of our guys this year.

Thanks guys ... I will be watching and cheering when PSU not on the mat

You should be. Whatever they score will be a dramatic improvement over the past 2 years, and they're a younger team. Bright future.

Gomez is fun to watch. I followed Degen a little bit toward the end of the season. Will be following Ryan Anderson when he gets to Ames.

I believe I am correct... 32 team points and two AA. 16th overall. Looking good for the future. Carr wrestling next year and Anderson coming on board :) I had a chance to go the the socials. Dresser very optimistic about the future. Met St John and Metcalf. Very nice people.

I'm very pleased with the effort. I think 16th place is a bit more than I expected. Hoping for top 12 next year but any move up would be great. I really think top 10 is within reach in two years. We need another top end recruit in the 174/184 range imo.

Just saw a post in the Scramble group on FB that Ryan Anderson of BECAHI was not accepted into ISU. Anyone have any info if true or not?
Ouch, was looking forward to this guy. Hopefully just a credit (class) that can be made up during the summer.

He failed the BMI <30 test. Rumor has it he was eating a twinky and downing a mountain dew while on the scale.

Ok, ok, just messing with Willie and Piles.

I would actually really like to see this kid slimmed down after a year in our room, he is oozing talent and has a motor, and if he were 10 lbs lighter look out. I assume ISUs academic standards are lower than PSU so I guess that means as he will probably end up at Iowa or Rutgers now :)

Rutgers couldn't get him in either. FYI- PSU is ranked lower than Rutgers

This would not surprise me...the wrestling people I know in central Pa love Ryan but always talked how school and grades where not his strong suit.
