Iowa vs Nebraska on BTN

Is Murin hurt? Or is the ultra-competitive Tom Brands trying to protect a seed?
Two meets in a row, so I'd say hurt. Both Gomez and Lovett were ranked above him, so it's not like he had anything to lose from a seeding perspective.

That was nice defense by Young on that late takedown attempt.

Robb rolled right into that one. Good job being ready for it by Young.

Murin wrestled 8 days ago against OKST. Turk wrestled Gomez the week before that.

Edit: and if you send the backup out against the higher ranked big ten opponents, it’s a no lose situation. If the back up wins, you benefit. If he loses, doesn’t hurt your starter’s record.

Anyone else think a reversal should be three points? Both guys essentially have one TD (if the reversal = a TD)but one is up 3-2 after the escape.
Yes, IMHO a reversal should be 3 instead of 2 so that the bottom wrestler earns an extra point vs just an escape.

Not sure how it can be considered same pinning hold enough for Young to not have yet gotten his 2NF points, but yet he can still be called for stalling on it

But one guy still has an escape that the other doesn't.

I've always seen the benefit of getting a reversal before giving up an escape is still a net positive because you get a chance to accumulate riding time in your favor. In this match, yeah Robb was still down a point after the whole thing but he had riding time well in his favor, rather than being down 1 anyway and having riding time against

I'm confused on that aswell. Ref is holding 2 backs during the hold and calls stalling? I'm going to have to watch that again.

To be honest, Murin has been wrestling well, I imagine Brands would want him out there against Top 8 guys if he's all the way there health wise. Especially since seeds will resettle itself at Big Tens anyways.

I know historically Murin gets banged up throughout a season (missed time in 2020 and early this year)

Based on Murin wresting against #13 Gfeller on Feb 12, sandwiched in between absences against #6 Gomez and #7 Lovett, this would appear to be the thinking of the Iowa staff.

Murin is 8-2. If he wrestles and loses to Gomez and Lovett, he’s 8-4 and prob drops some in the rankings. I don’t think the Big Ten is getting a lot of allocations at 149. They have a very capable backup. They benefit from a Turk upset and benefit from a Turk loss instead of a Murin loss. I don’t know.

So let me get this right, despite the fact that Kemerer was on his back for two complete seconds before an obviously "STUPID" freaking ref starts the count and then even after seeing on review that he was slow recognizing he should be counting he is still too f#$king stupid to get it right.

Then he repeats his stupidity by doing it again. Good Lord this f@#king clown is in way over his head.

Correct.

Hard to believe that wasn’t a NF. But Nebraska wasted the challenge earlier on nothing. What were they even challenging earlier?

Pretty much, yeah.

always seems to have something going on with his elbow. he's been wearing the sleeve again this year and missed the first month or so.

have to break 45 for nearfall, not 90.

Labriola had (un-scored) back points twice. Was that Angel Rivera or Jim Gibbons reffing the match?

jmadden, you are in SERIOUS danger of losing your Hawk card. We might become your official home board if you keep this up.
he's right. kem wrestled a dangerous match and paid.

the bigger concern is his finish rate this year is way down. he used to be one of the best in the country, nearly automatic. he's both not getting to his head outside shot and not finishing the other shots he gets to. i'm assuming it's a shoulder thing.

The first set of backpoints. On the first challenge Nebraska should should have been awarded 2 backpoints and kept the brick!
