Iowa Wrestle Offs

Well he certainly looks more comfortable at 157. Hope he holds the weight well this year

Bowman vs $ could be interesting. I was impressed with Bowman as the season went last year. He is one of those guys who seems to get better on a consistent basis.

Was it Bowman who almost stuck Martin last year? That was an impressive match (though I seem to recall Martin wound up with a Major).

It was indeed. He is probably not the most physically gifted guy but a real hard nosed dude who always shows fight. I like Cash as well, so not too personally vested in the result as much as just curious. I was a little surprised by the low scoring 285 match just because that Cass has a big motor for a big man, but familiarity has consequences when we hope for action.

Murin gave up 2 stalling points in the last minute. Won with RT. Max may indeed be the guy this year. Midlands may decide it

Lugo pinned Axmear quickly with a cradle

Hey turk or other hawk fans or MBWs....why isnt Nelson Brands taking a grey shirt?

Cant be about money or working out because thats built in.

I think it would be good for the sport (absolutely for the boards) and certainly the mat side antics appreciation community to have as much brands coaching brands as possible.

I also agree that they're good wrestling entertainers, but their conduct is often deplorable, as representatives of a major university.
Their behavior has improved dramatically over the last 10 years.

The bully routine began to disappear rapidly when Tom ran onto the mat at Big10s during a heavyweight match between the Iowa kid and PSU's Cameron Wade and nearly fainted when he looked up and saw a pissed off Cael standing there daring Tom to take another step. When Tom turned and ran to the Iowa corner and while standing behind the other Iowa coaches yelped out at Cael, the intimidating Brands routine was gone. This is fondly remembered as the bug and windshield moment.

The year after that when Penn State knocked Iowa off the mountain top the Brands boys behavior was downright childish at times, and supposedly the brothers were summoned to the principle's office when they got home from nationals and were told as representatives of the university their behavior would improve beginning now.

When Terry calls out wrestler's from opposing teams for not having "guts," or whatever he was ribbing Lewis about, I fail to see that as improvement.

To me, that was the lowest point of their antics, but, of course, I'm wrong.

The Brands' bring a passion to the sport that few other coaches bring. Tom's interviews are candid, and imo, honest. For those of you always looking for what's wrong with others, oftentimes based on a biased view of right and wrong, that's what you'll find. If you look for good in others, that's what you'll find.

Cael's not perfect, I'm not perfect, Tom's not perfect, and none of you are perfect. Just my opinion, Tom's a very good coach and a great fit for the Iowa program.

I love Cael and Penn State, but I'm a lot closer to Tom Brands than Cael Sanderson when it comes to coaching. You try waking up at 1000bpm and then sitting with your hands behind your head in the corner. It's impossible. I've tried.

Tom is passionate about the sport & a great fit as Iowa coach.

Terry belongs locked away in rubber room in the basement of a mental ward.

Nope, Terry sure doesn't belong in a mental ward. Excellent father and coach. Respect!

Im desperately trying to find a video of this

Maybe, but disrespecting and taunting athletes from opposing teams isn't in a coach's job description, and nor does it go into a coach's highlight reel at the end of his/her career.

Bad behavior cannot be excused, but what would a fool like me know?

My "forever" image of Terry is him running out of BJC to avoid the post-match handshakes this past season. Says it all.

And, yes, any claim that they have "cleaned up" their act was belied by the interactions with Lewis and Massa in Nationals in 2018. Either that or the bar was so low ....

Come on everyone knows “Pantsuit” is the Women who made the pantsuit infamous and the word “deplorable” into a badge of honor. But you already knew that Grendel.
Guess I'm just that ignorant, and even more ignorant than I thought, particularly choosing to call me by a name that I'm also ignorant of.

I'm not your enemy. ;)

Grendel, the Troll from Beowulf. Required 8th grade reading, at least in Jersey. No harm intended. Forgive me? Let’s get back to wrestling.
