Junior worlds

WrestleStat also has us losing a dual to:

Iowa
Michigan
Missouri
Oklahoma State
NC State

Which is kind of funny. I can see Iowa, and maybe Michigan. But the last three are just terrible.
Yeah, true Freshmen get no street cred on Wrestle stat. They have Steen and Facundo getting either pinned or teched against all those teams.

Joe Lee also gets no respect, but I guess that's understandable. The one I don't get is DeSanto over RBY.

I think we start the season with Barraclough and Manville wrestling 149 and 165. Facundo/SVN/Bartlett get their 20-25 matches in at opens and a decision is made after the Scuffle.

Check out their NC State comparison.

Apparently one time 157lb runner up Hayden Hidlay is a favorite over defending National Champion Carter Starocci.

After watching Keegan you have to feel even better about Facundo. Facundo gave him his closest match at trials even if wasn’t super close. Still, after watching Keegan beat up some really good wrestlers the past couple days makes me very excited to see Facundo this season

It's all algorithm based so true freshman are all treated the same. No data, no respect.

With that said, I have no idea how Hayden Hidlay could be favored over Starocci using any formula.

I've said before but I see Facundo taking a Starocci path. He's going to really struggle scoring on some of our hammers in the room but once he breaks through mentally, he is going to be special special.

Hidlay at 174 will be as wide as a house. So, maybe they incorporated cross sectional area or a height vs width ratio into their algorithm and that tilted the match in his favor.

That's kind of what I think has happened to Beau. I think he’s going to be great but I think his offense has been shaped by a “don’t get into a scramble or stuck under Nick or Roman” attitude. He’ll break out this year as he gains confidence and ability, though.

Idk, I probably haven't watched quite as much Bartlett as some on the board, but I've always thought of him as an elite positional wrestler with great reattacks, going back to high school before he even committed.

I think it's more likely he's just a little slow to develop leg attacks. He actually reminds me a little of Daton Fix. They don't come naturally to everybody. He has other ways to score, but he might not break through that ceiling until he finds at least one he can depend on. I still expect him to score big points for you guys throughout his career, just to be clear.

I will be okay if Beau Bartlett ends up as a Daton Fix (minus certain stuff)

More generous than your Joe Lee comparison for SVN 😜

Yeah, that's why I made sure to clarify I still expect him to be great! Just maybe not a bonus machine. RBY might be the model here. He's a guy that doesn't attack legs as much as I would expect, but obviously doing just fine living off his reattacks and other skills. I think Bartlett just has to be more consistent in being able to go get one when he really really needs to, like he did for Bronze.

Did I compare SVN to Joe Lee?!?! Lol, maybe the sloppiness, but I think SVN's floor and ceiling are much higher for the record!

I was just ribbing you man. You said he kind of reminds you of Joe Lee in that SVN randomly just has a bad match at times (in free) after the Club Duals this year when he got teched. Nothing about his abilities or anything.

I actually really enjoy your technique and style analysis!

He hit a nice single against Sasso. So he's got it in him.

I'm more concerned about his bottom wrestling than his neutral offense.

Other than the Sasso match (and Sammy is just a good rider) I don't recall Beau with bottom issues and he was an undersized 149 this year.

They have Elam beating Kerkvliet. Elam is 1-4 against common opponents, Kerkvliet is 5-1.

They have Nick Lee winning by 1 over Allan Hart. Hart is 4-4 against common opponents, Lee is 13-0.

Kind of comical how bad it is.

Don't give wrestlestat too much sh#$. @andegre is a genius. I couldn't do my wrestling previews without him. (Yes, he's a Hawk fan but no one is perfect.)

Jaslynn Gallegos loses at 53kg in semis to Sweden. Gallegos tried decent-looking hail-mary head pinch late in the first but wound up on her back, loses 12-1. Will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.

Complaining about WrestleStat predictions is an annual rate of passage -- like changing the lineup, asking about the schedule, asking about season tickets, complaining about parking ...

Also a sign that we've cured cancer and solved world hunger.

It also works in the 'tell us you're a newb without telling us you're a newb' sense.

Korina Blades looking for a second miracle on the day, down 6-0 to Kasabieva from Russia. She's 16 and clearly not as physical as her opponents just yet, but a genuine talent.

8-0 now, 10-0. She'll wrestle for bronze.
Just watched Keegan O’Tooles matches. He’ll be a special one. Seems like his attitude/mental is A+. Would have fit in with Cael and Co. really well but can’t get them all.

Kennedy Blades up against Saneh (India) 72kg semi
  • Whoa. Blades shoots, gets behind and goes grand slam suplex for 5. Nearly turns. Definitely catch a replay of this.
  • Clean double, 7-0.
  • Break.
  • Blades catches Saneh off balance for a snatch single, followed by a gut and that's that. 11-0.

She gave the Olympic Gold Medalist a battle. Special talent—though they may need a new weight class by the time she’s done growing. She scored in the first 5-10 seconds in all her matches.

I love Amit Elor and think she will be a multiple time senior level world champion but I really believe that in a few years Kennedy Blades is going to be the best women’s wrestler in the world. She is such a phenomenal athlete and seems to be jumping levels every time out. Really great leg attacks and her 5 in the semis was incredible. Do yourself a favor and go watch it

They're both a joy to watch and their styles couldn't be any different. They're also around the same weight class (though Kennedy is probably on her way up), which is presently occupied by senior gold-medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock. Plenty of time to sort all that out but Kennedy, Amit, and Tamyra are all in the generational talent category.

Did Adeline decline to wrestle at Worlds? Kylie Welker (and Kennedy) is going to be our next great.
