Kollin Moore's Ranking

He still has the best resume, IMO. We'll see how it shakes out at B10s. If he loses again, he could drop.

who is your #1? can't lower Moore without raising someone else, and whoever that is will draw questions too. No easy answer for #1 at 197 right now.

Doesn't matter, it will be settled on the mats at some point in time, that's why I love this sport.

I would make Cassar the new number one. He beat Moore fair and square in a match so therefore Moore clearly should lose the spot. Sure Cassar lost earlier this year, but we are talking NOW. Cassar at the moment earned the one spot. Hall lost to Valencia in a preseason match and lost the number one spot even though he is undefeated. NATO was number one forever without even wrestling a match at 125 according some rankers. Remember when Gulibon was number one without a match at 141?

When a boxing champion loses a fight, they are no longer Champ. The other guy is. I know wrestling is different and you can not automatically always make the opponent the new number one cause of upsets and crazy things that go down. But I don’t think Moore deserves to stay number one. How can Moore be number one without getting a single TD? IMO Cassar earned the ranking for now, and to have his name pronounced correctly, and Moore should drop to number two.

It would be Moore for me. He has plenty of good wins and no bad losses. The only one I could make a case for ranking above him would be Darmstadt, but Darmstadt's only loss this year was to Mattiace, who was handled at the Keystone Classic by the guy who gave Moore his only loss.

By the logic of beating #1, Hoffman could be #1 by beating Cassar.

IMO it's Moore. Darmstadt is the only other guy with a case, though fewer quality wins.

Sure this has already been discussed, but.....if the top 20 ranked wrestlers at 197 are supposed to represent the best 20 wrestlers, then it's preposterous that Cassar and Shak aren't both top 20.

No amount of logic or double talk could convince me there's 20 wrestlers better than Shak or Cassar. That's just ridiculous IMO.

Lets forget about the #1 ranking....... lets talk about the top seed at Big Tens...... big ten matches and head to head results matter the most.

If Cassar is the PSU entry is he given the top seed with no Big Ten losses (5-0 or 6-0) and a head to head victory over Moore?

Yes, real talk...go...

I agree with those who feel Moore still deserves to be #1. Looking at the top 5 guys ranked at 197 with record and top 10 wins/losses

Moore: 18-1 Wins--Haught (F), Wilcke Loss--Cassar [2-1]
Haught 22-2 Wins--none; Losses--Miklus (F), Moore (F) [0-2]
Darmstadt 21-1 Wins--Miklus (MD), Rasheed; Loss--Mattiace (MD) [2-1]
Miklus 19-3 W--Haught (F), Weigel; L--Warner (MD), Darmstadt (MD), Chaid
Weigel 8-1 W--Wilcke, Macchiavello; L--Miklus [2-1]

I don't see how anyone else can make a real case to be #1 at this point. Cassar is 16-2 with 2 top 10 wins--Moore and Mattiace, but 2 "bad" losses.

I agree there is not an easy answer for 197 right now. That is why I asked this board. I think Darmstadt or Cassar should be ranked #1. I say this because I like rankings to be a ranking of ''what have you done for me lately in the last two/three weeks." Everyone knows in march that whoever gets hot usually makes a strong run towards the top of the weight class so I think the rankings should be based on momentum.

Make your case. Who do you think should be ranked ahead of him? My answer would be NO ONE based on actual results this season.

let’s not forget Cassar’s win over 4th ranked Matt McCutcheon at the Keystone Classic. That’s three top 10 wins for him. (I don’t mean that as an argument for someone other than Moore ... just seeing to it that Cassar gets his props)

Moore is #1. He has the most quality wins and beat #2 Haught twice this season.

There is precedence for this. Bo was beaten by Nate Jackson of Indiana during his freshman year. Bo was undefeated up to that point, and Jackson was a top 10 opponent. Bo remained #1 the following week.

Rankings are a silly thing to argue about, particularly in wrestling. It’s going to get settled on the mat in March.

Yes. A ranking is about current performance. Some progress and get better while others fail to. I can’t think of any sport that ranking is mainly based on body of work.

If ranking is based on body of work, and Shak's body of work includes 11 pins, how is he not ranked in the top 20?

That’s a great question. Flo mentioned that They simply don’t rank two wrestlers. I am honestly not sure why they don’t.

... Cael bumped the heat in Rec Hall to 85
Kidding aside, are excessive temps at Rec Hall really a thing? Was surprised to hear the commentators mention that as impacting the tOSU wrestlers the other night. Seems it would impact our guys equally, not to mention agitating the fans.

Under any circumstances, any amount of pressure, our guys have ice running through their veins. So, yes, the high temperature could have affected Ohio State more.

True that and it was rather warm in Rec that night. I just assumed that because it was cold outside they cranked the heat up and didn't account for all of the hot air we would be producing with our loud voices, aided of course, by Ryan and Jaggers. :D

I hold Ryan & Jaguars equally & totally responsible for the volume of hot air. They will probably expect to be compensated for reducing the energy cost .

If Moore had the flu a very bad look for Ryan screaming at him with 20 seconds left in the match.

I have my doubts Moore had the flu, in the past Ryan has never had an issue pointing out bad refs and long bus rides...don't see why he would not have said Moore was sick and did the best he could.
