Last Chance WTT qualifier - Friday, May 3 (Nick Nevills)

Hall with another quick 10-0 tech, this one included a four-pointer that saw Hall launching himself along with his guy. Freestyle Hall is more fun to watch than Folk Hall.
So much more offense. You can tell he really loves free.

Missed the start of Hall's second one, but for his second move, he chose a leaping fireman's carry for 4. When they came back from the OOB following that, his overmatched opponent had a huge smile on his face, seemingly saying, "I'm not sure what he just did, but I'm wrestling Mark Freaking Hall."

Walsh is maybe even more wild in Free.

Mark got a go behind to start the scoring--that dude was strong, and fought hard for about a minute.

Chad Walsh wrestling now at 79 KG. If brackets go chalk, Walsh should be Hall's finals opponent. Walsh is scrappy, innovative and unorthodox. In a word, dangerous, though Hall will certainly be favored.

I had to step out for a quick meeting, got back to see Nick hit what looked like a lat drop maybe to go up 11-0 from 7-0.

Nevills with the 11-0 tech at the end of the first period. A tilt; a shot clock point; a high single leg takedown; a turn; a four point takedown to put his opponent on his back (almost a pin but time ran out).

I’m really excited to see Hall back competing in freestyle. 1x Cadet World Champ and 2x Junior World Champ. Domestically, we are loaded at 79kg: Dake’s the reigning world champ, and I think the 3 guys behind him can all bring home a medal on the world stage. This is great for USA Wrestling.

I assume Valencia gets the 1 seed at the trials (assuming he’ll be there), since he swept Dieringer at last year’s WTT. So that leaves Dieringer with the 2 and Hall with the 3. Looking forward to watching a Hall/Dieringer match. I will not be surprised to see Hall vs. Dake at Final X. I’m very high on Hall’s freestyle skill set.

Pretty sure that US Open winner (Dieringer) gets a bye to the finals of WTT. So Hall and Valencia would be in the challenger tournament with the winner of the challenger tournament wrestling Dieringer and the winner of that facing Dake in Final X.

Semis at 65 look like a recent NCAA Semi: Heil vs. Meredith and McKenna vs. Henderson

Bet Joey gets another crack at Dean.

Thanks but that only shows the Seniors. Who is wrestling on Mats 8, 10, 11, etc. I'm not seeing it.

Hall and Nevills both into the semifinals.

Looks like they are holding the finals tomorrow. The brackets are small enough that they could finish today, but I guess that isn't the plan.

Friday, May 3

3:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Senior Men’s Freestyle - Preliminaries, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Consolation Rds 1-3

Saturday, May 4

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Senior Men’s Freestyle - Consolation Rd 4 and Consolation Semi-Finals

12:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Senior Men’s Freestyle - Finals and 3rd Place

Sunday, May 5

10:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Women’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman - Preliminaries, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Consolation Rds, Consolation Semifinals, 3rd Place and Finals

That does seem a little silly.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question--I was wondering the same thing. Must be some regional tourney or something.

Mack looks just too much for Phillipi. Makes Bartlett's win over Mack at the open all the more impressive.

And yeah, Meredith is on the beginning of the Freestyle learning curve--Heil takes him down and guts him off the mat.

The announcer just said finals will be held immediately following semifinals. So, it seems the written schedule is wrong (or now altered).

Or he's talking about the Derby.
Could be, but I believe he said Senior freestyle finals. Nevertheless, keep your eye out for a wild stallion named Baby Mark (Hall) and place big money on him to win by multiple lengths.

Hall with the quick tech in about 1:01 of the first period. A slow-worked spin behind for the TD and then four awkward but effective turns.

I hate the new "Lose and Forfeit Out" movement in wrestling, but also... What's the whole idea behind having a consolation side on these brackets?

Hall v Eno. Music for Counting Ceiling Lights, vol. 1. (Brian Eno joke).
LMAO. It was more of a strobe effect this time.

Anyone know who that was cornering Mark? Seemed like some random dude off the street.

Edit--just saw your question DM--no way that guy is Varner.
