Hearing it is a weight cut issue and not COVID related.
I was looking forward to seeing Alvarez go vs. Desanto and RBY. Looks like 133 is now a 2 man race.
133 is a two horse race today, and it was yesterday also.
Because they recruited over him with a transfer? When the "big news" of Rivera's transfer was announced, I speculated that Alvarez was going to get squeezed. Of course, I was ridiculed by Rutgers fans. Guess what?
That's presumptive. The release does not provide a reason. For all we know he got injured.
If can't make the weight he made the rest of the year, Rutgers would've had a lineup issue with or without Rivera.

So Rutgers has the most recent 133 Champ, most recent 133 #1 seed and last years 133 #10 seed all on the same team and they will (presumably) score 0 points at nationals at the weight. Crazy.
Flew right by you. The problem is that they denied any possibility of Alvarez being squeezed out by bringing in Rivera. I don't have a big problem with a one-year rental of Rivera (might not have been the smartest move long-term, though), but to deny that Alvarez might be adversely affected by doing it is just ridiculous. And what came to pass?
It's like when Iowa recruited Spencer Lee when they were loaded with top recruits at the first two weight classes and Iowa board members claimed there would be no problem fitting them all into the lineup. Of course, only one of those wrestlers actually hit the Iowa lineup in any meaningful way - Spencer Lee.
Because Rivera will be at 141? It's the gift that keeps on giving for Alvarez.
Oh, he's got a plan. He's going to take a team that finished 5th in the B1G tournament in 2016 and turn it into a 14th place team in less than 10 years. And he's off to a great start, because he took them from 5th to 12th in 4 years. Just those pesky bottom feeders are so persistent.

I think your super nuanced point about Alvarez might be taken a little differently by that fan base if you didn't have a (well earned) reputation for sh*tting on Rutgers at any and every opportunity.
But the last part did confuse me. Who did Spencer Lee squeeze out of Iowa's line up? Perez Perez?
Almost every post I make about Rutgers is factually accurate. Rutgers people prefer to cling to fantasy and that bothers them. And I don't think the point about Alvarez is super nuanced.

I think all of those arguments (and they frequently get made about PSU) are, frankly, bullsh*t because 98% it's just fans of other teams complaining about a talented wrestler going a team they don't want them to go to.
Bringing in elite talent, even at the expense of pretty good talent, is almost always the right move. And I am certainly happy Cael, for the most part, operates this way.
