LLWS: Let's go - Pennsylvania

Why PA is pitching a kid who hasn't thrown hardly at all is beyond me. Down 2-0 already and game just started.

Surprised me as well. Perhaps they saw something in their scouting of Japan that caused them to think Krauss would be effective. They still have Henline to go to if Krauss gets in trouble.

It's 7-2 in the bottom of the 1st, with PA still at bat, so all is not lost. :)

10-2 after one...wow! Impressive inning. Cole Wagner needs to learn to hit inside pitches.

If they win, these kids will be feted all over the country, including by PSU. White House, Phils, Pirates, any smart Pa. minor league team, Orioles, Ravens, Nats, you name the entity, they'll invite them. Even the filthy rotten Pa. General Assembly will honor these kids. I'd hope they decline that one, but that's one you probably can't dodge.

If Pa. Wins, I hope PSU invites them to a home game.

I think this game has a realistic chance of ending up with a score like 35-32 or something.

Little League teams can get cold just as quickly as they get hot.

PA could be in trouble...this little off speed lefty may shut them down.

Game is already a football score

&

it will end in (another) football score.

13-10 Japan bottom 3. Japan only hit 5 home runs in the whole tournament and they hit 5 in three innings today. Using oversized golf balls for the game today to give the audience home runs.

The big problem with LL today is the field size has not kept up with both the aluminum bat and the increased size of 12 year olds. Realistically, the fences should be moved back at least 50 feet. The other problem is the dimensions are 200 to left, right and centerfield. It is like an arc, without power alleys.

They moved the fence back to 225 feet no too long ago and home runs have gone up. I guarantee if they used the baseballs my son's league used we would not be seeing these home run numbers. In fact, at the district and state levels you don't see the home run numbers. They really jump as soon as the games start getting televised which is regional semifinals.

Agree. Aside from moving the fences, I think they should enlarge the diamond by 2'-3' between bases, which would increase the distance between Home Plate and the mound by 1.4' - 2'.

PA finally holds them scoreless for an at bat...13-11 bottom 4.

I admit I didn't know that. You believe the balls they use in the LLWS are juiced up?

They have different types of balls for different levels...pony league balls are more tightly wound than little league balls. My guess is they're using balls that are way more tightly wound than standard little league balls.

13-11 after 5 and Japan just retired PA's two best hitters. Not looking good for the PA team.

They are also using carbon fiber bats. The ball speed off these bats is greater than aluminum or wood.
I agree that the field needs to be enlarged. They shouldn't be hitting opposite field home runs 50' beyond the fence.

The bats help, but those bats have been around for 10 years or so and the home run numbers still go up.
