Thanks Tom! LOVE that JC was letting him up to get more points. Aggression is the name of the game this season!!!

141: Gulibon vs. Dan Neff

Neff is ranked, so this could be the best match of the evening.

149:
Zain vs. Kyle Hammond

1st:
Zain looks way more bulked than he did 2 years ago. Hammond worked the head, nothing. Zain in on a quick double and spins behind for the TD, 2-0. And there it is, he throws in the legs. LOL. He's working the head, but the ref calls a stalemate with 1:17 left. Zain throws in legs again, and he's got Kyle turned. Hammond looks to be in trouble, and Zain gets the pin at 2:15

PSU up 20-0

Comment: Zain looks like he'll be a small (in height) 149 lber, but he is quite a battler

I feel sorry for a lot of Penn State opponents.... in advance. Dear GOD.

PSU up 26-0

Impressive 1st dual for Nolf

Comment: surprised that McKinney got in so deep on the 1 shot, but Nolf didn't seem bothered, and worked it to his advantage. I don't like to see legs given up so freely, but with his skill set Nolf may get away with that.

I realize this is Lock Haven, but this team is going to be so fun to watch. My goodness.

I know it's Loch Haven... but Loch Haven wrestlers are just getting mauled. Zain's opponent's face was contorted and beat red as he turned him and ashen in other areas from a lack of oxygen. WOW.

PSU leads 43-0

Most active I've ever seen Cutch in a college match

JC, Mouse with the performance of the night so far. I thought he was going to have a tough match with Sponseller - would have been a tech before the fall. Wow, Va Tech is in trouble, I think CP was right. I know it's Lock Haven, but they throw some tough kids out there and nobody is even in the match. With the obvious exception of Neff - but it never really seemed like JG was in any danger at all and Neff was AA last year at 149.

Maybe it's a good thing Nevills is on the shelf for a while for the sake of college wrestling.

I think the switch has completely flipped on for Matt McCutcheon. This team is just loaded.

37 take downs to... 1 for Loch Haven.

2nd
LH guy takes down. LH guy works up, and is driven back down. Scratch working from the side. Stalemate at 1:10 left. RT over a minute. Stall warning on LH guy, so that's a point, 1-0. Scratch turns him, gets swipes, working for the pin. Really close. End of period, but 4 NF. 5-0. RT at 2:00.

Scratch takes down. Works up and is out in 10 sec, 6-0. Mac in on a low single drives thru to a double with a spin, and gets the TD, 8-0. Mac turns him and gets swipes. Mac with a figure 4 on the head, and once the arm slips out it's an illegal hold. With the 4 NF, it's 12-1. 30 sec left. Esc with 5 sec. With RT, it's 13-2

Mac had trouble getting the right should down. He came really close, but never seemed to get it.

Gotta feel tremendous for Johnson. Wow, you could see he was dead late in the 2nd, but gutted it out. 2 weeks in the room, giving up 55 pounds and 3 years in a D1 room. Just a great job.

his flurry for the takedown just zapped him. Anyone that needed to see the difference in football vs wrestling shape saw it tonight. Jan gutted that out and could easily be a .500 wrestler this year which is impressive by any measuring stick. Will take his lumps, but my guess he will be night and day between now and late February.

Outstanding match, lock haven is not the sisters of the poor. Their kids were just broken, many whom we have watched in HS that I would never have guessed would look like they did.

this team is on a mission. Will need to order more popcorn!!

Agreed, it will take him at least a good month or so to get into real shape . Hope Sunday isn't too painful for Jan

So I know it may not really be Cael's style, but if the dual is in hand Sunday (which I think it will be), do you even run Jan out there? I can't see how it helps him getting whipped on by Walz

Rehm, McKinney, Sponseller, and Sprenkle are all tough. 3 of them are seniors. They combined for 2 pins, a TF, and a 13-2 MD. Woof.

After watching Zain contort Hammond into a balloon octopus, the happiest guy in Rec Hall had to be Cody Wheeler for dodging that bullet.

Comment: surprised that McKinney got in so deep on the 1 shot, but Nolf didn't seem bothered, and worked it to his advantage. I don't like to see legs given up so freely, but with his skill set Nolf may get away with that.

Nolf did that quite a bit in his redshirt season, as well. He allows guys to get to his legs and then he funks/scrambles. Nolf does seem to get away with it most of the time, though it's probably not a recipe for success against the really top guys.

157: Nolf vs. McKinney

1st
Quick TD by Nolf, 2-0. Nolf lets him go, 2-1. Nolf with another quick TD, 4-1. Nolf lets him go, 4-2. McKinney shoots on a leg, Nolf grabs the far ankle, switches to another ankle, stalemate with 1:41 left. McKinney shoots, Nolf counters with a single, 6-2. Nolf gets him turned, and gets 4 NF, 10-2. McKinney gets an esc, 10-3. McKinney in deep on a leg, Nolf with some funk, and spins behind for the TD, 12-3. Nolf with a cradle and gets the pin at 2:42! Wow

PSU up 26-0

Reminded me a little bit of DT who would every now and then give up a takedown to an opponent he probably shouldn't, but then come back and put 12 pts. on you in 1 minute.

I said the same thing last night. Gets your opponent to open up a bit by giving them an opening.

The team was locked in last night. If they wrestle like that in March we have more than a shot.

125- Nico looked sharp as usual, but adding the pin at the end was icing. Great start to the welcome back tour.
133- Conaway teching a solid Rehm. He looks noticably bulkier. This match won me over on the 4 pt NF, I think the fans are going to like it throughout the season(I certainly did last night)
141- Don't know how to feel about it. Kind of weird and both guys took half-shots for the most part. It's like they had a contract before hand to not really commit to anything until the third. Jimmy capitalized on Neff's positioning and rode him out, which is what you want to see. Good win over a solid AA. Good debut at the new weight.
149- Zain absolutely brutalized Hammond. I was worried for his safety. On a mission from the start.
157- Nolf pulled some dare-I-say Taylorish moves at the end there. McKinney looked bigger but Nolf was just better.
165- Want to see more of Rasheed obviously but that's not his fault. In the 35 seconds we did get he was pretty aggressive. Jury's out but the coaches love him so that's good enough for me.
174- Nickal put in some real effort at the end there which is what you love to see. Getting that out of freshman is difficult and I think speaks to his potential here. Just workmanlike and poured it on when he needed to.
184- McCutcheon looked great. Thought this would be closer (Sponseller was pretty good in HS). Sort of a repeat at 25 where he poured it on and looked for the pin - and then got it. Can't ask for anything more really.
197- Morgan was Morgan. A little slow to start but got the backs when he needed to. A solid major.
HWT- The match everyone was talking about. Jan was definitely gassing middle of the second. That will hopefully work out later in the season as he gets more used to it. Did what he had to do, can't ask for anything more. Great to have him on the team.
