here's my look at the returning B1G placeholders for next year. I'll leave it to others to predict which guys will changes weights next year, which guys will redshirt, etc. The year listed is what they will be next season. (I based that on the year listed in the B1G Championship brackets. I did find a few mistakes; didn't check each so apologies in advance if any are incorrect.)

Interesting how many placers return. 197 is the weight that clears out the most. 133 and 165 are next in terms of weights that clear out a good bit. On the flip side, all placers return at 174, and 7 of 8 return at 125, 141, 149, and 157.

Enjoyed your review.

From your summary:

"On the flip side, all placers return at 165"

Believe you mean all return at 174.

Well done Tom! ;)

I think 165 next year will look a whole lot different once Dieringer is gone. A lot of 157lbers will be moving up across the NCAA. I think there is no doubt BOJO is going up to 174. He looks average at 165.

We need to move Rasheed to 184 and let Clutch try to make the line up at 197. But i do not think he will beat A.C ! Keep Nolf and Bo at 57 and 74...Cenzo will fill in nice at 165 !

Would seem to reinforce the notion that the B1G could win back a good number of qualification slots next year.

People better temper their expectations for suriano at 125. I like where Cortez could slot in at 133 as well as Cassar at 197.

I like where Nevills sits too if he can remain healthy.

Dunk, why temper? Weight, talent, redshirt likelihood?

I'm not so sure. I believe he's starting at PSU at the end of June, and he'll certainly have excellent workout partners at PSU.

Beyond that, Suriano's expectations exceed what I guess is the expectations of most fans. He is as focused as one can be. He's been on a mission his entire time in HS, and accomplished pretty much all of his goals, so it's not as though he doesn't have a track record of meeting his expectations.

College wrestling is a big step-up from high school. In an ideal world, Nick would be able to RS to get acclimated. However, his plan is not to redshirt.

There are no shortage of examples of all-everything high school wrestlers that don't have instant success in college. There is a smaller number of examples of guys that had instant success in college, like Zain who didn't lose until the B1G final, or like Nico who had a few loses during the regular season, but made it to the NCAA final.

Only time will tell. With 7 of the 8 placers returning (assuming all of them stay at 125), the competition will certainly be tough just within the B1G.

I'm not Dunk but I'll take a crack at it: because it's really freaking hard for true freshmen to live up to our expectations.

Yes, Nico finished 2nd and Zain 5th. Smack was the #1 overall recruit and went 1-2 at nationals. And Nico finished 5th at B10s before going on his run at NCAAs; he was the #10 seed, meaning he projected off the podium.

Suriano likely falls somewhere in that range, and we can readjust after we've seen him for a few months.

Love what Tom did, but it all predicates on guys maintaining weight.

Was mentioned above about Bo Jordan going up. Lots of rumors all year long about Tomasello going up as well.

Also does not account for some key shirts: Logan and Taylor Massa immediately come to mind. Taylor was 7th at 174 last year -- behind Kokesh, Brown, Storley, Evans, Mark Martin, and Brunson.

Gulibon is going back down to 133 next year. You can pencil him in at a solid 3, ahead of Taylor, who he has beaten.

Gulibon dropping back to 133 is fantasy. Can't wait for the same folks to say the cut is too much for him -- again.

You never know but once an athlete bulks up, do you really want them to suck back down? I would think the plan would be to get Guilibon as big and strong as possible at 141 and put Cortez in at 133. Jimmy is a workaholic and will look even better next year with another off-season to work it. Cortez is perfect for 133.

Well we know two things about Cortez: 1) He won the NLO by beating Conaway at 133 in the finals, 2) He won the Messiah Open at 141. Adds more fuel to the speculation fire.

Well we know three things about Joseph: 1) He didn't make weight at 157 at the NLO; 2) He didn't make weight at 157 at the Southern Scuffle; 3) He won the Messiah Open at 165. Adds more fuel to the speculation fire.

Having said all that, I think these discussions need to wait until after the 2016 national tournament.

Is Bo a light 174? He seems to be smaller than many of his opponents.

We all know the expression that a picture is worth a 1000 words. When I saw the picture and video of the team getting the 1st place trophy for winning the B1G tournament, I was really surprised how much bigger Shakur looked than Bo. So I don't know if Bo is a light 174, but I have a much better understanding and appreciation for how hard it must have been for Shakur to make weight at 165 - he is one tall guy.
