Masanosuke Ono

Obviously there will be some adjustments (no exposure points, par terre and push outs and obviously mat wrestling), but comparison I can't get out of my head. Vito when healthy made everyone look JV when he was at 133. Ono made Vito look JV at worlds last year.

It it so automatic that we can slot Ono in at 133? Embarrassed to say I've never seen him wrestle and also curious about his transition to folk style.

Assuming he is the man, I look forward to see what he can do next season, it would be fun. I watched the video of his training routine for a day and just loved his attitude and work ethic. On the other hand sad to see one of our elite wrestlers get bumped. Could we lose someone because of this?
Well I think he will be able to get a lot of take downs and not get taken down, the thing he would probably have to work on is getting off bottom, but he is very quick.

Now we have to hear that other site talk about how Lee would dominate Ono in folkstyle.

That's OK. Iowa is a program recognized as the second best program behind Penn State that is almost never good enough to finish second to Penn State. Iowa is the program who in recent years had the "absolute" best generational talent who could only win 3 titles and had a 6th place finish as a senior. Their second best recruit won 4 Big10 titles and only ever won 1 QF NCAA match and zero semi-final matches. It's OK to let them have their make believe world. Letting them think Spencer could beat Ono in a pretend, make believe folkstyle match while Ono is beating their current 133 pounder and winning current real titles for PSU is something I am comfortable living with.

Those arguments always remind me of the idiot drunk at a bar, discussing how he would get in the ring with Mike Tyson in his prime for 10 million dollars. He wouldn't do it and if he did he would get killed. Arguments that are without any sense or chance for 1000 Alex 😂

I’d take him over any returning 133 maybe… ever? We’ve seen what he did to Marcus Blaze, and seen what Blaze has done to former NCAA finalists and champions. It would translate, he’s a generational talent and one of the best p4p freestylers in the world
Asken said Ono is in the top 3 p4p wrestlers in the world right now. He has a case for number 1. Only thing holding him back is longevity. I don’t know if I’ve seen a run like he had at U20’s and senior worlds though. Absolutely destroyed everyone including past Olympic and world champs

Maybe not on mens side but this is what Elor has been doing for the last 4 years

Yes, this isn’t someone that goes contested one or two point matches with Ryan Crookham and Drake Ayala. It’s a completely different tier of wrestler.

This is in fact true. His student directory page changed from “member” to “student”

A lot can still happen between now and the start of the season but it appears this has some moving parts to it.
if he is now considered a student, what would he need to be an athlete, it seems it would encompass all.
for basketball and football, they would be a student and athlete as soon as it says student.

You are correct, once it says student he is essentially a student-athlete as he is enrolled as a student.

Still trying to temper my own expectations right now that this may not be reality 😂

Somewhere in Iowa there’s an angry old slumlord who’s cursing and ranting and mumbling under his breath about level playing fields
Unfortunately, Slumlord Bob lives just up the road from me, here in CO.

Imagine a guy who wrecked Vito Arujau (a 61kg world champ who put a pretty decent beating on RBY and then killed the NCAA field again at NCAAs), wrestling a guy like Drake Ayala.

"Sorry, we don't do the 'slide-by' here."

Well he didn't become a student not to wrestle right.
True, but I suppose there's a chance he would want to focus on FS/international competitions rather than waste time with college wrestling and considers NLWC the best place to do that (and wants to continue his education while he trains, too). The odds are definitely getting better by the day that he'll be on the PSU roster next year, though.

Will believe he's gonna be on the roster when he shows up on the roster. Would be exciting but I don't see him wrestling folkstyle in college

Why should GIA be surprised or even upset? They have been claiming for years that Cael's only strength is recruiting. So now he has recruited one of the best in the world. Seems to me that's quite consistent with past trends.
F. It's going to be a great 3 days!

Him being listed as an undergrad opposed to being a grad student, would that mean he could possibly get 4 years of eligibility instead of just 2?
My guess would be his clock started when he enrolled in college in Japan. I believe he's in his 3rd year now. Which would give him 2 years of eligibility
